Why does the earth not appear bigger in this video? Being many times the size of the moon, you'd expect it to occupy a large part of the horizon...

due to the space between the earth and the moon and the laws of perspective, the moon (because it is in the extreme foreground) will look bigger than the earth (in the extreme background).

My understanding is that nothing can take the place of actually seeing the lunar suface from Orbit but I can hardly wait for the data from the LRO. Image resolutions will be far beyond anything we have seen before.

The moon is very bright WITH an atmosphere, so by your argument it should be even brighter, hence the need for a short exposure time.

patience, moomaw! It's not too easy to see a flag from 110 miles up. This only represents a very, very small patch of the moon.

yuuki0505, I'm not following you. I don't know where you got this number from. Even if one pixel covered 18 feet on the surface, the the Lunar Module Decent stage would only appear as a very slightly darker gray pixel...if that! The flag would not even be a hint. Also, I know this video segment of the polar orbit did not go over any of the landing sites.
