This is NOT a cougar. It´s way too small for a cougar and has a completely different shape. Concerning the mentioned size (can´t tell the actual one for the extreme zoom), it almost looks like a bobcat but all lynxes are short-tailed, so my guess 95% it´s a housecat...theres not that many cats in the US to distinguish between :P
its mountain loin we got them here in ky they use to be in the eastern part of this country inculding KY VA NC SC they was hunted out by man years ago but they r now making a come back to this area
that is definitely a housecat, just compare the leaves next to it and you'll see it's not very big. plus the collar with the little bell is a dead giveaway lol
To the person who responded to me by saying their dog was bigger when I described the size of the cat I saw at Beech Fork State Park, I apologize. I stated that it was approximately 80-90 pounds. Normally I carry my "black panther / big cat / large animal scale" scale with me when I am out driving around. However, on that particular night I did not have it with me. Next time I will also bring my "big cat Tape Measure as well to get a length as well.
I firmly believe that was a panther and NOT a bobcat. I have personally seen a black panther/cougar near Beech Fork State Park. The cat I saw was tall enough that when I slowed down to look at it, its head was level with the top of the door of my vehicle. No bobcat is THAT big!
it's not a panther.it's not a cougar, guess again thats right it's a bobcat and yes they can get up to 50 to 70 lbs but thats extreme, ussually 35 lbs is average!
Hate to up set anyone but if you get out of the house a little more you would know this a 25 or 26 pound full grown Bobcat. quit rare to see one. i suspect see has kits close by is why it did not run off, I promise she knows where you are. buletpoint
bobcat i can tell by its pointy ears, i ve never seen one before in the wild and i live in WV, the rarest animal ive ever seen in this state is a fisher and there crazy looking
I do believe it is some sort of hybrid like cougar/bobcat. My husband and I saw one just like this in the middle of the afternoon just standing on our dirt road. It ran off and we later got out to check the tracks, the print it made was as big as my palm. My husband also thought it was a bear until we saw that thick long black tail. No house cat, that is for sure. We live in Northern Georgia.
I'm from mason county and we've been seeing big cats. I stared one dead in the face at 10 yards. Wasn't no feral cat. Had a huge tail though. Not sure if bobcat randomly have tails.
cougar's and jaguars do not have fur or ears like that, bobcats and lynx do not have tails like that. Possibly some sort of cross, lion's and tiger's have been known to mate on occasion.
Yet the physical characteristics of this cat don't closely resemble those of a mountain lion or panther.
Mountain Lions do not have large tufts on the ears or cheeks, which this cat appeared to have. Nor are the ears strikingly pointed, like this one filmed. Yet these characteristics are common to both house cats and bobcats.
It would not be unheard of for a domestic cat and bobcat to breed, which would in turn create a large cat similar to this.

a mountain lion would not let you sit in your truck while it is running and let you observe it like this. they are very secretive and elusive. that is someone's pet housecat.
Pause the video at 1:18. It is definitely a domesticated cat. If it was a mountain lion it would be much more muscular and also the shape of the head would be different. Not to mention its grey. Not a bobcat either. Bobcats have very short tails
my boyfriend says its probably an oversized house cat. I'm pretty sure if it was a wild animal it probably would have ran off. cougars have more rounded ears then that
That is a Lynx, or Bobcat that bread with a house cat. I have seen similar mixed breeds here in Utah in the central part of the state. They get to be as large as the bigger wild cat in size, but will still get the long tail of the house or ferral cat.

Growing up I was told that Panther state forest was named so due to the black panthers dwelling there. Those beautiful mountains with dens, caves and crevices would seem sufficient for the big cats. You were very brave to video this. Thank you for sharing it.
Its no bobcat, way too big and this thing actually has a tail! although the face looked like a bobcat, i agree, maybe a hybrid mix. I also know there is a species called the eastern panther which is different that the common couger native to the west. who knows, have a wildlife biologist examine this video, quite amazing to see that.
man people...this is not a cat, mountain lion or bob cat....ITS A FISHER!!!!!!!!!!!.. and when bear hunters start treeing mountain lions I'll start buyin this stuff. I love how all these people just drive around and see all these mountain lions....
1st thing... it's not a "panther" man, panthers are... black. It's not a mountain lion, the entire shape of the cat itself says that it's fecal. If you report it in WV or VA, the government will tell you that they do not exist in the areas, but they do. And if it were a mountain lion.. it would have not had it's back to you the entire time. Easy to get confused though!
After having my sister take a look at this video and actually taking more time to study the said animal we beleive it to be an over sized house cat. The colours and the body type is indicative of this. She has had cats that if one would look at them from a distance you would think they were wild cats. She had one that was almost the size of a mountain lion but was just a house cat. So no this is not a bob cat or a mountain lion or even a panther. Its just a cat.
Bobcats don't have tails. I know I killed 1 in Pocahontas county. It's a mountain lion, the DNR says they don't exist up there but I know a couple people who saw one all last year in Clay County WV
its not a cat!!! its a fisher.......do some research, I'd bet all these "black panthers" that everybody sees is in fact a fisher. I'm a big hunter and have never seen any kinda a big cat sign. If there were big cats in WV dont you think the bear hunters would tree one??? I have never heard bear hunters say they treed a lion.........Talk to the hunters, the real outdoors man.........
The best thing for you to do is to go back to the same place and try to reenact the video with a person standing where the cat was. This will help with determining the size of the cat in the video. Also if you place a trail camera in the area would be a great idea. Go to my profile and see a video of a documentary I have been working on about the Eastern Cougar
thats defenatly a some feral cat. i would know iv seen both mountain lion and bobcat in wv. i saw 2 this summer within a mile of town and it was alot bigger than that and my dad saw and my uncle and dad saw a panther on Timberline Ski resort on the slope
I cant tell what species this cat is,however,I witnessed a mountain lion back in 01 on horsepen mountain at the intersection of rt 44 and 52. It was about 3am and me and a couple of friends were on our way back from NC and it was in the middle of the road near some roadkill,at first I thought it was a large dog but as we approached it jumped at least 15 feet and in two leaps was totally up the side of the mountain and out of sight. I have heard tales of big cats but that is my only sighting.
I don't believe this to be an over population of the cats, more likely, the result of ATVer, Gas well roads, logging, mining, and expansion of housing developments stiring them up,and keeping them on the move, man is disturbing there habitat. People should set aside large areas for these animal's.Certain places have a high density of animals of certain species.
When I was said Over Population I was talking about the the Rocky Mountain States like Colorado, Wyoming and westward, if they get over populated they'll expand there territory till they reach the eastern states like WV and PA. I think it's a Jaguare, Jaguare's can very in color from black to tan and sometime both. They're making a comback to the US as the enter the country from Mexico and expanding eastward do to over population in South America and Mexico and have be spoted in PA, KY and WV.
have you been to buffalo creek in wv lately?.........there is nothing growing or expanding out there. For every mountain they are mining, there's 100 more untouched. The most destructive thing going through Logan now is the new route 10 hwy. I go to logan county regular and have wheeled buffalo creek......miles and miles of mountains all around. (so where is man's habitat anyway?)
My vote is a large ferrel cat or small panther.....seems too small to be a mtn lion or jaguar.
Well one last message, if anyone knows of how I can send them cougar pictures, I can show undeniable similarities as to why, this is infact a cougar, the Head,Ears,White facial markings, dark mark proceeding down the forhead, white around the mouth, and side of jaw, black marking on the front left leg,the tail, the coat, the thickness, the movement even, this isn't a house cat I believe, Jesus Christ is Lord!
I live in North Central Pennsylvania close to the New York State Line, I've seen a black panther up here which was about the size of the one in your video, black panther's have been spoted from New York State to Texas with KY, WV, PA, and Southern OH having the most sightings. I belive you saw the rarest of all panther the mountain lion which is very rare to see in the Easter Half of the United States, there mostly seen in the Rocky Mountain States, this is a sign of over population of the cats.
I know another response, after more observation, I am convinced it is very, very possibly a Cougar in fact. The black mark on it's front left leg, appears of that of a cougar, pictures confirm this, the markings that appear on the face, also are the whiter markings of cougar facial features, again many cougar pictures confirm this, the tail isn't house cat,the coat appears cougar, pictures again confirm this, the overall body shape appears cougar, and the size would rule out house cat,I wouldn't doubt it
Also, at the time 1:21, You can see the color of the coat is that of what would be on a Cougar. You can make the screen larger, by clicking on the box, with the little box inside it beside the HQ box icon.I have strong reason to believe, this is infact a Cougar/Puma/Mountain Lion,The area this was filmed at is a pretty large territory, with little interferance by people, except the feline seems to be stirred up from it's territory, because they said in the video,it was close to society.Gas well roads
It could also be a wild cat, not a Bobcat, you can look up the pictures on yahoo images,of both a cougar, and wild cat's,the tail seems a little short for a cougar, but it could be,and the video at 1:05 seems to show white markings on the face, and eye brows, but 1:06,shows a white mark down the cheek, which seems to rule out, house cat,and at 1:19,you can see a black strip on it's leg, at least it is what it appears to be,and the tail appears wild,or cougar, check out pics, the head appears cougar
an Angel, She said she was told that animals, that were thought to be extinct, and are very rarely seen will be appearing, and being discoverd, to meet the Lord Jesus Christ for his second coming, I believe this, with recent news of Gorillas being discoverd, whales, birds, and so on. I would contact the DNR,and tell them to check it out, the only known siting in WV, that I know of was in Pocahontas Co,but my neighbor up Craddock fork, had a full grown Bengal Tiger in a dog kennel,no lie.
@ShannCole888 its totally possible that this is a panther. the male panthers tend to wander long distances thru several states and are crossing the border thru mexico. They also cross breed with cougars. The vision sounds very real to me as God created those now extinct species and he wants to bring them back for his second coming. Notice how he didnt get aggressive towards you but sat there peacefully. Gods presence is upon him. God Bless :)
After looking at several pictures of Cougars, the Head is very similar, the tail also matches, even the movement, cougars vary in size, color, and coat, from Florida, to California. Some are lighter, with thinner coats, and more muscle tone, while others are darker, with thicker, fatter looking body types, that show less muscle definition, but yes it could be a cougar, we just recently have been seeing a red fox in our yard, first time in 50yrs,I heard a little girl was given a prophetic vision by
It could be some other type of wild cat, I do agree it is not a regular house cat, or at least the tail suggest otherwise, you would really have to go back to the location, and take measurements
If it was a lot larger than a Cat, honestly, it appeared to be a Bobcat, all except for the long tail, Cougars could pass through, here, I live in Logan/Boone Co,WV Lake, It looked like a cougar,Bobcat mix possibly, the tail appears to be Cougar, if you pay attention, but the facial appearance appears to be Bobcat, I would have the video examined by experts, with video enhancement capabilities, and go back to the place, and take measurements, with the setting, and scout the area, when was this ?
@petegollihue No dude for real, look up pumas and check out the tail and ears. The tail is the same length as their body with a defining black tip on the end,... and it's not a fluffy tail like this one by any means. Nothing else in the world has a tail like it. They're ears are round as well, not pointy like this one's. I was really interested because I live up here in Harrison County, WV. I have personally seen, heard, and encountered Pumas in the wild here. They're here however, believe it.
@petegollihue bobcat/feral cat mix.. my buddy has one as a pet.. i live in virginia and have seen a real black panther/jaguar but this is not a panther.
You are correct. Pause at 1:05. That is clearly a large house cat. Its hard to tell how big it is. It would be nice to have the poster go back to the same spot and film her husband walking out that trail to the exact spot where the cat was sitting. Plus, it has no characteristics of a mountain lion. The way it walks, the ears, the way it turns its head. Ears aren't point enough to be a bobcat and the tail is too long.
looks like a bobcat

ShannCole888 2 years ago
When I was said Over Population I was talking about the the Rocky Mountain States like Colorado, Wyoming and westward, if they get over populated they'll expand there territory till they reach the eastern states like WV and PA. I think it's a Jaguare, Jaguare's can very in color from black to tan and sometime both. They're making a comback to the US as the enter the country from Mexico and expanding eastward do to over population in South America and Mexico and have be spoted in PA, KY and WV.

@ShannCole888
have you been to buffalo creek in wv lately?.........there is nothing growing or expanding out there.

ShannCole888 2 years ago
I live in North Central Pennsylvania close to the New York State Line, I've seen a black panther up here which was about the size of the one in your video, black panther's have been spoted from New York State to Texas with KY, WV, PA, and Southern OH having the most sightings. I belive you saw the rarest of all panther the mountain lion which is very rare to see in the Easter Half of the United States, there mostly seen in the Rocky Mountain States, this is a sign of over population of the cats.

"Panther" Any species of a cat that preys. Usually very dark fur sometimes BLACK.
Not a sign of everpopulation. That is a juvenile south american mountain lion. Once a pet turned to the wild. Native cougers are extinct in WV.
All mountain lions will appear black at certain times of the year.

I know another response, after more observation, I am convinced it is very, very possibly a Cougar in fact. The black mark on it's front left leg, appears of that of a cougar, pictures confirm this, the markings that appear on the face, also are the whiter markings of cougar facial features, again many cougar pictures confirm this, the tail isn't house cat,the coat appears cougar, pictures again confirm this, the overall body shape appears cougar, and the size would rule out house cat,I wouldn't doubt it
ShannCole888 2 years ago

Some are lighter, with thinner coats, and more muscle tone, while others are darker, with thicker, fatter looking body types, that show less muscle definition, but yes it could be a cougar, we just recently have been seeing a red fox in our yard, first time in 50yrs,I heard a little girl was given a prophetic vision by
ShannCole888 2 years ago
It could be some other type of wild cat, I do agree it is not a regular house cat, or at least the tail suggest otherwise, you would really have to go back to the location, and take measurements
ShannCole888 2 years ago
If it was a lot larger than a Cat, honestly, it appeared to be a Bobcat, all except for the long tail, Cougars could pass through, here, I live in Logan/Boone Co,WV Lake, It looked like a cougar,Bobcat mix possibly, the tail appears to be Cougar, if you pay attention, but the facial appearance appears to be Bobcat, I would have the video examined by experts, with video enhancement capabilities, and go back to the place, and take measurements, with the setting, and scout the area, when was this ?
ShannCole888 2 years ago
I agree that it was a house cat. Build, facial structure, movement... HC. Sorry y'all.

@petegollihue Looks like a Bobcat to me. Mountain Lions are much bigger. Very cool video. Wild and Wonderful.

@lawson25303

@lawson25303 Too big waaaaaaaay too big for a housecat maybe a cougar
