  • nice playing an very nice lesson thanks kenny

  • Nice. Like the way you play it.

  • very nice lesson!

  • whats he doing at 0:49 with the strings?

  • @lisaandarron Giving the B string a little 'tug'.

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan

    really? interesting

  • @lisaandarron Yup. Randy used to do this alot and if you listen to the album version of the solo, you can hear the notes are being 'jerked' up, just as if you were pulling up on the tremelo bar. Back then, you couldn't really do that because most bars were seated right on the body of the guitar. They weren't floating yet and Floyd Rose in 1981 was just starting to show people his system.

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan

so randy didnt use a floyd rose? didnt he say in the semnar that the perfect tremolo was a floyd rose?

  • @lisaandarron Randy mostly played his '70 cream colored Les Paul Custom and his '79 Karl Sandoval polka dot V both live and in the studio for Ozzy's two albums. Neither had a Floyd Rose. I believe his prototype white Jackson Shark Guitar had a Floyd on it, but I'm not sure. The Jackson guitar came after the recordings of both albums and Jackson didn't mass produce it until after his death.

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan

    thansk for the info man

  • fantastic lesson you really clarify this solo... thanks

  • i love the way you have your guitar placed in this video :) gives it that nice shine

  • You should do a lesson pickinging! You techqniue is beautiful

  • Excellent

  • She # minor

  • Thank you sooooo much for your help YaBroMan!!!

  • Hey man great lesson, I'm having trouble with the first scale in this solo (The one that is repeated twice) every time I play it the lower strings start to vibrate and the sound of the open strings drowns out the scale and it sounds terrible. Unwanted string noise I think it's called. How do you play it so damn clean ? I've tried different ways of muting with my palm but it hasn't worked quite well.

  • @TigertailzBezerk You just need to practice. Eliminating string noise is a combination of your picking and fretting hands working together. But, if you have a TON of distortion/fuzz/overdrive on your setup, then you'll always have noise.

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan Thanks man, I think I got it goin well now after a few hrs of working on it. Weird, I can play most of Randys stuff pretty smooth but that certain piece was seriously taking a toll on me lol. Going to keep working on it - thanks again for the advice. rock on

  • tight fav rhoad solo

  • I have tears in my eyes now thanks

  • THAAAANK YOUUUUU SOOOO MUCH!!!!

  • That was Fucking Great!

  • i like the video and im glad you took the time to teach this awesome solo. i just wanted to point out that he doesnt do that weird b string grabby gimic in the recording if your like me and like playing along with the song.

  • awesome teaching!

  • Possibly the best guitar lesson I've seen on youtube, thanks.

Hammer, pull, slide 7-10-7-6-9-6-5-8-5-4-7-4-7-4-3-6-3-0-7-4-0-8-5-0 (on b string) works well for the bit near the end if (like me) you don't got no whammy.

    I gotta go practice!

  • @arnoldjones Actually, the hammer/pull/slide is the correct way to play it. I really want to take this vid down and repost it the correct way. Maybe someday. :)

    Yo!

  • good lesson..

  • the beginning of the 3rd passage has the same structure of dueling banjos

  • Comment removed

  • Man ! YOU ARE AMAZING ! Thx a lot ! just a perfect lesson !

  • good job

  • OMFG :o

  • awesome rendition!

  • Is that an Aria pro guitar?Either way good jod best rendition I've heard yet.Keep on keepin' on.

  • @TheDevilman2112 Wow! You recognize that guitar!! Or what's left of it. :) It's got a Charvel neck on it now and an original Floyd Rose prototype from 1981 on there as well. Harder then heck to play, but it sounds great. :)

    Yo!

  • Hey thanks a lot man this helped me a lot with timing and technique

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

  • geez....such precision

  • 7: 19 dueling banjos

  • wait! When you said aeolian you played the phrygian mode.

  • @IbanezNick75 - You recognize the pattern, but this solo is in C# Aeolian. The pattern happens to be G# Phrygian starting at the 4th fret low E sting, it's also C# Aeolien starting at the 4th fret A string, which is what's happening here. It's also same pattern at the 4th fret as A Lydian, B Mixolydian, E Ionian, etc, etc. Same pattern, different modes depending on the starting note.

Hope that helps to clarify what's going on here.

    Yo!

  • Awesome lesson, thanks man!

  • Nice job,,Randy would be proud..

  • Oi YoBroMan u beast binbabz here could u learn and post eddies beat it please :)

  • @BinBaby17 Beat It is has been on the list for awhile. :)

    Yo!

  • well done brother

  • What are you using to get that awesome tone ? !

  • @TigertailzBezerk It's a Marshall JCM 800, 2203 100 watt head, 4 speaker Marshall cab w/65watt celestions. Amp settings are: -Presence = 8 -Treble = 10 -Middle = 6.5 -Bass = 10 -Master = .25 -Pre-amp = 10 Effects: -BOSS Delay (The red one) = double slap back, as close to 1/4 second as I could guess. -Alesis Microverb (the original 1/2 size rack unit) = Large Room #2, mix at about 3. Hope that answers your questions Yo!
  • @YoBroMan thanks man ok I've got a project for you... How about 'Drop dead legs' dying to learn it. Thanks, BinBaby17 :)

  • @BinBaby17 Cool tune, especially the ending, I love that part. I had only planned on Panama and Hot For Teacher from the 1984 album. I'm already super limited with my time to do these vids, but I'll put that one on the list and see if I can get to it.

    Sorry about that. :(

    Yo!

  • Awesome man can you give me a tip for this solo cause I can't get it up to speed. Any help would be apreciated... Thanks! :)

  • @BinBaby17 Probably the best way is with a metronome set to a slower speed, then work your way up from there.

  • do you what would your guitars made from bro?

  • @dmohr7 Yo! How have you been? Long time, huh? Are you asking me what type of wood? No clue... LOL!!!

    Yo!

    grtzz

    Holland

  • Wow, you nailed that solo dude!

  • Hi what kid the guitar body do you have there: ) cool lesson

  • @TheHotneck It's an Aria Pro ZZ Series body from 1982 with the stock humbuckers...either Hotblades or Protomatic. I don't know which ones are in there because they're not labeled. :)

  • Nice :), My Wife Plays Also.

  • great lesson !

  • have you ever thought about doing Spanish fly by van halen....just curious.

  • @gameaddict93 Eeek! That's one of those Ed things that's just impossible to play unless you're an accomplished nylon string player. Playing a nylon string guitar is like trying to pick wet spaghetti! LOL!! I'd only embarrass myself. :)

  • @YoBroMan lol i guess that would be hard to do, have you played cathedral in the past i almost got it down ( except for the rhythm and timing of the songs)

  • @gameaddict93 Cathedral is a little tricky, the delay has to be set properly and you've got to be able to hit the notes 'in between' the slaps of delay. The other thing that's difficult is keeping the string noise ot a minimum. :)

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan true that man :)

  • @YoBroMan ok this time i got one what about beutiful girls

  • @gameaddict93 Killer tune with cool intro, I'll put it on the list.

  • this is awesome man love the sound of the guitar also

  • Hell yea man.. Very sweet!!

  • hey buddy.. another great video...sorry i didnt keep in touch...im back now..i'll talk to you soon.

  • good job man u nailed

  • can you do crazy train or mr.crowley or diary of a madman or flying high again?great playing, best over the mountain solo lesson

  • @reallyguitarhero Flying High Again & Crazy Train are on the list. :)

  • This is insanely awesome, my friend. Wow. Between you and Doug, my mind is being blown. LOL.

  • @foreveralive Doug is a monster player. If he was in SoCal, I'd bug the sh*t out of him to teach me his sweeping patterns and picking technique. But, alas...he's down under in Australia, so I have to watch his vids instead. :)

    Yo!

  • I like it. I remember hearing that on the radio in San Jose and completely shitting myself.."Oh no!!! Ed has competition!!"

  • @DougFCKNSteele I remember first hearing Randy...mind blowing is all I can say. Since you've got the 'market' cornered with VH stuff, I figured I had better branch out. :)

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan Let's just cover everything we liker and if the paths cross, it's allll good.

  • @DougFCKNSteele Too bad we couldn't do Scarified together...split screen! How friggin' cool would that be? :)

    Yo!

  • @YoBroMan I don't think i have the patience to nail that. But that would rock, yesh!!

  • excellent man!

  • sweet thanks for this one
