Ive never seen brew dogs beer here in va but i'll grab it when i do. they have the sink the bismark i believe it's called at 40% abv which im pretty sure takes it out of the beer cat but they call it beer and i'd like to try it out and of course save the 90% of the beer i can't finish because of the 40 abv. good review man cheers!
This beer is really good, actually the first IPA I tried.
Mark, have you tasted Brewdog Tokyo? Nearly bought it today but then I noticed the price, 98kr in Sweden, (which is about $15) for one bottle, and that it was 18.2% abv which seems a bit too high for a beer.
this beer review is so so wrong this guy did not mention the citrus taste of the beer, if you want a proper review check out the British beer reviewers who have tried this Brew Dog Punk IPA
@rod262martin Sorry you disagree with my review but I don't think I got it "wrong". Everyone tastes beer differently and picks up certain things more than others. Taste can vary depending on time of day, age of beer, beer temperature and a whole host of other variables. Cheers!
@rod262martin actually, if you'll notice, this review was posted in 2009. Brewdog recently changed the recipe for this beer (in January 2011) and so the beer that you're drinking now called "punk ipa" is a different beer from the one reviewed here.
I seen this once 43 sale outa of town. didnt buy it ad today I find out its discontinued and I have no idea where 2 get it. Had other scotland beer's b4 and own a few but they doffer from wht we know as beers. E.Scots spruce pine ale, heather ale,ect cheers
@TheBrokenEclipse This tastes like a tramps vest. But its 9.2 per cent, and gets you drunk fast.I am on the stuff tonight. After Rangers beat Celtic,in the Glasgow derby. And it says its American on the bottle. They just brew the stuff here.Pub sells it in Glasgow, and can only sell you one beer. Then they send you home.
unfiltered is the way to go! think about what they are filtering out....hop sediment? maybe a little yeast? leave it all in...you taste sweetwater ipa and it just tastes so natural...i'm sure the other great ipas are done the same way...
hey, just wanted to say well done for all your beer reviews. i've watched quite a few of them now and am very fond of them but this one caught my eye because i actually work part-time at brewdog. i also seen your other video with the RipTide. i enjoy many of the beers, especially the Trashy Blonde, but i do enjoy Punk IPA. do you see much of the beers where you live?
@Tiddle292 Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you like the video reviews.
We get a few of their beers here but definitely not the full line. I wish we did. I guess I'll just have to go over there and look you up so we can get the full tour and tasting :-)
Hey Mark, just had this a couple days ago! It really did have a distinct fruitiness, which I'd say comes from the New Zealand hop variety "Nelson Sauvin" they use. It was new to me. Cheers!
@januarkind Huh, that's good info on the hops. Thanks for sharing! I need to get some more of this once I get through my current backlog of beers to review.
There's no sediment in their beers, I believe they filter but probably not a sterile filter so there is still a little protein/tannin haze from the malt and hops.
Also try the Worthington White Sheild from the UK it is the origonal IPA that made IPA all them years back. It is an excellent IPA bottle conditioned beer, still to this day it is not made or had change to its manufacture it is still made in small batches in the same way it was 100 years ago apart from bottle washing lol bottles are washed on an automated machine thats only change do a google on it very good beer you should try.
I think I remember reading that this beer (Worthington White Shield) is sterile-filtered, then reseeded with clean fresh yeast, not something they would have done 100 yrs ago.
Its cloudy because you been shakin the sediment up lol you need let the sediment settle and pour it slow leaving sediment behind and its an IPA stays brewing in the bottle lol
I did let the sediment settle but the beer was still a little cloudy. I don't think that they completely filter the beer, which a lot of brewers do. There was sediment in the bottom of the bottle when I was finished.. Sediment or not, this is a very good beer.
Ah got ya yea it needs more maturingIf you got more than one bottle put the other in darkroom for at least 8 months should clear and have better flavour.
IPA are not never pasturised or filtered as they are dual yeast brewed and continue to mature in the bottle. The bottle is there second fermentation. It was the way they used to keep the beer tasting great on the long hall from uk to india. hence no filtering or pasturisation. I think it makes better beer without filtering.
BrewDog beers are fairly easy to get here in Georgia. My three main beer stores all carry at least a couple of BrewDog beers and I'm glad they do because the beer is very good!

Using an over-sized wine glass is for the mentally ill. It's beer for fuck sake, not fucking single malt. Stop trying to baffle the general public that you've got some sort of special gift in the way you can decipher what you consider beer intricacies. You'll come across as a twat and someone who should probably be drinking wine.
I have no special gift for tasting beer, just my nose. I'm not trying to baffle people, just give them an idea of how one beer is different from another. People can use whatever glass they want to drink your beer, it doesn't matter to me.
All I'm doing is enjoying a quality beer, which is what everyone should do. Cheers!
The "regular" pint glass is good for many ales but I do like using an oversized wine glass for the bigger/stronger or darker beers. The shape of the glass really helps in enhancing the aroma of the beer.
It's right up there with the good ones. I scored it 39 out of 50. If you want, check out my blog, click on the "Beer Reviews List" page and you can see a list of every beer I've reviewed. You can sort the columns by clicking the heading and then see how one beer compares to the others.
Very interesting review. If you, like me have a passion for single malt Scotch whiskies then i recommend you try the Paradox range. Brew Dog brewery is only 30 miles from my house so i'm definately a customer for life :)
Just wanted to let you know that I found a bottle of the Paradox Macallan (batch 011) Have you had this one? I will probably review it within the next week or so. Stay tuned!
Find it if you can. It is well worth the effort. If you don't immediately see it in your area contact BrewDog and they should point you in the right direction as far as a local distributor.
It's a beer which I drink a lot of and it's easy to get and pretty cheap (you can find it for £1 a 330ml bottle). I had a 22oz bottle of AleSmith IPA and that was a great amount - I still wanted more though!
Cheers for the shout out :) glad you liked it. It's great to see the big bottles too, be only get them in 330ml bottles here. Good call on the berries, there's plenty of that in there and tropical fruit. I had it out of the cask a few weeks ago and that was amazing. Great beer from a great brewery and if you move on to stouts then try and get some of their Paradox range aged in whisky casks.
The berries weren't hard at all to pick out. It is a very good beer and I'm glad I have a place to get it because I'm sure I will be drinking more of it. The 22oz bottles are great, especially for lower ABV beers because they are just about the perfect serving. Who really only just drinks one small bottle of a quality beer anyway? :-)

Yeah, the Punk isn't too bad. I could drink it often and not complain. I agree it's not the absolute best but it is a solid beer.

hoptopic 2 years ago
I think you may be correct. There was definitely some haze in the beer which could come from not totally filtering the beer.
VideoBeerReviews 2 years ago
That seems to be right - their website says that they used to sterile filter & they now only lightly filter.
Google "filtration at brewdog" for more info.
