It runs off of two Ni-Mh 1.2 V batteries. The linkage allows for two power strokes per revolution of the crank shaft. There is a micro switch that is operated by a cam with two lobes 180 degrees apart on the crank shaft that times when the solenoid gets power. The solenoid only provides a pulling force. The solenoid is turned on when the linkage is furthest out of alignment and is turned off just before it is the straightest.
