This is one of like 3 Pavement songs that sounds anything like The Fall but people are so desperate to be one hip step ahead that they dont actually take time to listen to the damn music but rather hop on idiotic ideas like "Pavement OH I LIKED THEM BETTER WHEN THEY WERE THE FALL"
People need to learn the difference between ripping off and paying homage to. For fuck's sake, ripping off is when you don't add your own take or dimension to a riff or sound and pretend it's an entirely new composition. If you wanna go hear what ripping off sounds like, go listen to a Bullet for My Valentine record. Now those guys went and stole classic thrash riffs. This sounds like a Pavement song that references a band they really loved. That's not a crime.
i'm sure not one person talked shit on trent reznor whenever he ripped off that bowie instrumental COMPLETELY on a warm place. but okay. haha. go ahead.
Has anyone bothered to see when this song came out? 1991! They may have ripped of the fall but ripping off the deftones would have been impossible. Plus this song is crap in comparison to 7 words..
what are all you douchbags on? Mark e Smith ripped off the Velvet Underground, The Velvet Underground Ripped off Link Wray. and the cycle will continue. Mark E smith should grow up and be proud that he got ripped off. its punk rock not playschool. its two fucking chords and some words over the top that happen to be in english
@Ulmeyda08 If this is how you react to bands who have been influenced by other bands then there won't be much music for your pretentious ass to listen to . . . Quit pretending you have such a profound understanding of music . . . you are just embarrassing yourself . . . Instead . . . sit back . . . listen . . . and enjoy . . . if you don't enjoy . . . then find something else to listen to . . . pretty simple
Look at all the hate towards Nirvana's come as you are and Killing Joke's 'Eighties'. People forgot the three amazing albums and just totally disregarded them because of one riff. Underground band's that made it (like Nirvana and Pavement) should be aloud to give a nod to those cult bands that influenced them. It's what alternative rock is all about: unrestricted.
Underground? Saccharine Trust, was an underground band. Nirvana and Pavement built their careers by stealing from much greater bands, watering down what they stole and prostituting it to mtv and mainstream audiences.
What is it with penis's who find similarities between tunes and then get on there high horse about it to somehow try to highlight there own encyclopedic muso ego? All bands have their influences and sometimes this spills over into there own music, even John Lennon admitted that. Like the guy said, homage is not rippoff. Pavement give ample reason to buy there records, even without Conduit for sale.
@edammade I agree . . . I love hearing the influence of other bands when I am listening to music . . . not to try to belittle the band I am listening to . . . but to try to get a feel for who their influences were and are . . . I love it! I love hearing the Beatles in so much music today . . . and Dylan . . . and Sabbath . . . and Zeppelin and etc . .. it does not diminish the new artists music . . . it takes real talent to take those influences and make your own sound out of it! Beautiful!
Fucking Fall ripoff. Plain and simple. You can rationalize all that you want but that doesnt change the facts

The worst kind of rip-off - one that tries to pass off as originality someone else's highly original work.
johnnyvicious2 1 year ago
It is essentially New Face In Hell by The Fall. In my view, actionable.

All artists start by copying their idols... It was propably ment to be a Fall cover but Malkmus forget the words and how it goes exactly..
I dont think anyone will ever get rich copying the Fall...
I love Pavement AND the Fall.. early pavement is very influenced by fall but after slanted&E they move much more in their own direction.

this is so much better than the fucking fall song.
