Yes, Anna Moffo's rendition of this exquisite and haunting version of Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 is wonderful. But for me, no one sang it better (and, I doubt, ever will) than Bidu Sayao, whose version is not only hauntingly beautiful, but offers an even quieter intimacy that seems so right. It is, simply, incomparable. Give it a listen; you may agree.

For me she is perfect for this - like the Rachmoninov 'Vocalise' it cries out for a beautiful sex-laden voice with great colour & control and boy she can nail a note even mezza voce.

This is one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. Anna Moffo's voice is perfect in every way: I believe, it's heavenly, even healing. This recording is truly marvelous. Thank you for posting. I heard it on the radio and couldn't get it out of my mind...

No better recording of this sinfully lovely work than Moffo's. This remains one of the loveliest melodies you'll ever hear....a heavenly voice! What soprano alive today can produce such drama and delicacy with power like hers? I dare you to find one! This is the sound of heaven: Villa-Lobos heard it one night and brought it to us....
