The reason I make the distinction is that the reason 'fascism' came about in the first place was basically a militant reaction to the threat of communism, so I suppose controlling all industry was a strategic necessity.

Marx was very poor at logic and his a priori were bad to boot. Locke had a sounder foundation, but he was off on a couple of things as well, but his logic was better.

You mentioned 'not letting them dodge the issue'. They basically have a discipline which revolves around dodging issues, that is called, post modernism. In a nut shell, the belief that reality is subjective. Because of this position, they can simply reject science, history, logic etc, by saying it is all subjective.
That is one position that really needs to be strung up and humiliated. I have a saying, 'reality is subjective, until you need surgery'.

The thing is, Coulter said that she couldn't criticize those women, because no one should have anything but endless sympathy for them, and then turned around and criticized them anyway. Therefore her entire point was moot in the first place. It didn't stop everyone from calling her a monster, sure. But she is one. There's such a thing as human decency. Letterman has it. Coulter and Bill O, not so much.
I think it is fair to say that just because you lost a son in a war, does not give you immunity to criticism for the opinions you state. The reason I make the distinction is that the reason 'fascism' came about in the first place was basically a militant reaction to the threat of communism, so I suppose controlling all industry was a strategic necessity.

It might be better to see him as a way to circulate and advertise classical liberal/austrian school economic ideas and less state interventionalist policy ideas with the aim of creating a classical liberal culture in the US.

Well Letterman did have one very insightful point during the conversation and that was that by his own admission, he isn't smart enough to debate O'Reilly on politics. I suppose that would make him a typical liberal. Facts and analytical reasoning just aren't hip it's easier just to call people names who disagree with you and try to make fun of them. That way you don't have to read books or educate yourself on the issues and you can still have strong political opinions!
