  • HA! $240 billion of debt per year. thats nothing compared to 2012 =/

  • Wow. This was true level journalism. Even though you could tell the interviewer thought Ron's ideas were a bit off, he stuck to the real issues during that period of time & didn't resort to a bunch of petty issues of he/said she/said.

  • he foresaw every problem that we have today, he told the world what was going to happen if we didn't stop it. now we are paying the price for big business backed government.

  • Even in 1988 the media was cutting him off!

  • I hate that we Americans but really humans in general will only act when the world is in some type of depression :( blinded by ignorance, im 18 btw.

  • You can never stump Ron Paul, he knows what he believes in and has the right opinion on everything

  • You sure this wasn't in 2012???

  • Media told me Ron is racist!!, why is he been interview by a black man??!?

  • Anyone still doubt he believes what he says?

  • "Let me just ask you, do you know of any place where libertarian principles have worked?"

    "Well, I think..."

"I have to cut you off sir, thx n bye."

    Typical douchebag reporter.

  • That nigger was NOT a fan of ron paul

  • Death Penalty!

  • Pretty much the only thing he's changed his mind on since then (in this interview at least) is the death penalty. And he's been forthright about it and explained the reasons for his change of heart.

Other politicians change their mind on just about anything and avoid confrontation about it.

If politicians of any and every ideological inclination were as forthright, honest, principled, and sincere as Ron Paul, we would have a new golden age regardless of which party is in power.

  • only is Ron Paul was this age now in 2012.I think he would have more support,no he is not a naturally smooth talker, but look at the puppet we have in office now, smooth talker doesnt make great leader.no Ron is not perfect, but then again, who the hell is perfect,IM not sure I want perfection in govt, reminds me of nazi germany, always wanting perefection.I think Rons son RAND maybe also could run for president in the future,I hope so

  • The reason the soviets couldnt win in afghanistan is due to our AID! WTH?! his system is continually flawed!

  • nice question name a place where libertarian views have worked? Hong Kong, really. Nice intellectual exercise can't work let's move on.

  • He changed his mind on the death penalty because of the increasing corruption of our judicial system: If you are rich, you go free. If you are poor or a minority, you get screwed.

  • excellent host

  • God I wish we had THIS Ron Paul today. The message is the same, but he was so much smoother at delivering it back then. This is a Ron Paul that would mop the floor with the slick neocons they have sharing the stage with him now... It's ashame they didn't let his voice be heard back then. I'm glad that his views on the death penalty have changed now (and he admits this is one area that he has changed his mind on... I'm totally fine with someone changing their mind over 30 years btw, lol)

  • Now I know why he can sound a bit tired during the debates--he's been crying liberty for decades, but no ones been listening! It's a shame, I fear his fight for freedom has left him tired.

  • Shocks me that I never knew he existed before the last couple of years.

  • Hasn't he changed his position on the death penalty though?

  • @hawaiigopher maybe, but he didnt get PAID to change his position.

  • @hawaiigopher not really. although he personally supports it it is up for the states to decide, not the federal govornment

  • Ron Paul is almost 80 now?? And he is still the sharpest candidate!

  • SPREAD THIS VIDEO, HELP RON GET ELECTED!

  • CONSISTENCY you look for mainstream media??!! LOOK NO FURTHER! i bet they won;t play this nugget on their network!

  • whats the name of the interviewer??

  • -Where have libertarian societies worked?

    Ron Paul: I would say....

-Sorry, I have to cut you off.

  • The origin of this government is based on libertarian principals, it just wasn't called libertatianism back in the day. Paul is actually a classical/Jeffersonian Liberal, but the term "liberal" has changed over the course of time as well. It used to be a reference to "liberty".

  • @leverettb8 haha, I know it's really crazy how they have changed the language on us. I will sometimes tell people that I'm a "classical liberal" just to see their reaction, and then I can tell them what it actually means. However, because they change the words on us so often, I have become disenchanted with any sort of title. I just tell people that I support small government. Ron Paul is definitely the person that supports that.

  • wow 25 years with the same things said!

  • 1#the guy is trying to tranfer the wealth to the halfs.2# taking education away were it will be a sec class citizens. tptb want him in. hes ful of it

  • @cityL7 You realize that the Department of Education was created in the 70's and our education has been declining ever sense right? Explain how he is trying to transfer any wealth? Though Libertarian believes you eliminate redistribution of wealth... Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

  • i like Ron Paul but to be honest, it's logical that social security is one of the exceptions where the free market failes. And saying it now failes as well, doesn't mean the free market will solve the problem, it would make it even worse. That is of course dependant on how you define 'the problem' but in my definition the problem is the dying people in need. The countries of Scandinavia are a rolemodel of a social system that realy works.

  • When half the country's "Young People" are MS-13 or black drug dealers, and the rest care not about what and why the other half are in the Country and who brought them there in the first place,or how the government and banks and corporations rape them,it is no wonder "Our experiment with liberty, will end" as Congressman Paul stated in a recent congressional speech.

Who brought in the drugs? Who wages the War On Drugs? Who Allows The Mega Banks To Launder All That Drug Money? YOUR GOVERNMENT.

  • Whoever disliked this video, ought to be deported,to their respected countries of origin. If their origin is of these United States, may posterity forget them, and that they were our countrymen, and where they belong and have come from, the pits of hell and Hades, shall return.

Our country is dying. It is sad.It is hard to accept.Yet it is before our eyes.

Every day,a new piece of news of some bill or law that removes one more freedom,if not more,is announced.

Every day, further down the rabbit hole.

  • I always here 'scholars' and media pundits saying "no one could possibly predict the collapse of the soviet union"

    what do you call 5:55?

  • Good to see a news anchor with some respect. today they are all arrogant shit heads who wont just shut up and let people talk and explain their points. When Ron Paul can talk and isn't squelched by the media he absolutely destroys every other candidate, he is the only sane one or the only one who isn't selling his soul to special interests.

  • If you havent seen the classic movie "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" yet, now's the time. Its on Youtube in a very nice print. If you have seen it, please spread the word. Every Ron Paul supporter will love it.

  • Thanks for electing the fuckbag Bush dynasty instead, America.

  • WHY WAS HE NOT ELECTED BACK THEN? HE IS STILL TALKING SAME TODAY. THOSE EVIL in goverment could of been gone 2 decades ago. No 9/11. No false wars. My GOD! SO MANY INNOCENT LIVES. SCUM MEDIA SHUTTING HIM DOWN.

  • He said Social Security was bankrupt in 1988. It is still in surplus, and will be for over 70 more years.

  • @glocksout where the hell are you getting your numbers? people pay 1/4 of the costs they are getting out of social security.

  • @JMS13579 When you pay OASI, it pays out to beneficiaries, and the surplus goes into the Social Security Trust Fund, which buys t-bills to receive interest. Most of the "national debt" is owed to this trust fund. The trust fund is worth $2.6-trillion. OASI will be in surplus until 2017 and the fund will grow through 2025. Until the fund is depleted, it can not possibly be "bankrupt" by definition.

  • wow he got old

  • I'm glad Ron Paul has since changed his stance regarding the death penalty, but for a man with such strong libertarian principles it's too bad he doesn't support abortion rights.

  • If Libertarians like Ron Paul so much, then why not simply support him in his bid as a Republican. Many Democrats have re-registered as Republicans to vote for him in the primary, so why can't we Libertarians do the same?

    facebookDOTcom/pages/Libertarians-for-Ron-Paul/293721443980929

  • "That's why we talk to a lot of young people. Because they're the ones who are paying these bills; they're the ones who are inheriting this debt. So it's most likely the young people who will move into this next generation will say 'look we're broke'" ----> that's us!! we're that generation. I was 4 years old when this interview was conducted. Very surreal to watch this

  • @jebarth3 This was the year I was born!! :)

  • Electronicoffee fuck you !, stupid piece of shiet

  • So Ron Paul has stood for the same ideas for decades, the government has not changed in decades, and the same objections to his arguments have been presented for decades, even though the current system has not worked for decades.

  • @SkepticThink

    well said.

  • @SkepticThink It's time for everyone to wake up. Guess that's been said for decades as well.

  • @SkepticThink However the world has changed these decades, and his arguments is stronger now than ever.

  • Exactly the same message 20 years ago. Only now people give a fuck because USA is in a big depression. I wonder what the world would look like if Ron Paul was elected in 1988...

  • @Frosmad not to be hyperbolic, but it would be glorious compared to what we now have.

  • Ron Paul: The truth never changes!

  • damn he said it "the soviet system would fall, they are already bankrupt bc they spent all their money and cant win in afghanistan" hmmmm sound like another country?

  • It's amazing how he's basically been saying the exact same for decades and we've only recently actually started listening to him.

  • he's simply the best, better than all the rest, better than anyone, anyone i ever met, he's simply the best. Go Ron Paul.

  • Dr. Ron Paul you will forever be remembered as one of the greatest American who ever lived along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln

  • OHIO 4 RON PAUL. Donate whatever you can to this mans campaign...otherwise we get Obama again or those hacks Perry and Romney !!!

  • 246 Billion... that's pocket change compared to deficits today. We need to support this guy America, he's been trying to guide us trough the right path for decades now, that's much more that can be said about 99% of our politicians, who most of the time want to lead our money into the pockets of their corporate masters.

  • Ron Paul says the exact same things til this day, RON PAUL 2012!

    CONSISTENT VIEWS = TRUTH

  • U gotta be a fucking idiot not to vote for this guy.. Good luck from Peru.

  • Comment removed

  • I'd like to see if even Bill O' Reilley can even come close to challenging those points

  • one of the very few Politicians world wide i deeply respect n admire if you guys don't do anything it takes to get this honest n honourable man your president america is finished WW3 will be upon us all soon planet of the chipped slaves n here comes Hell on earth in the name of the NWO u will Never again have the right to call america the land of the free what More do u want there is No better man on earth for america n the world right now

  • epic Ron Paul2012!

  • There are 435 members of the House of Represenatives and Ron Paul is the exception. ~Ronald Regan.

  • I think the interviewer did a pretty good job. Part of his job was to bring up the arguments that viewers with opposing viewpoints would like to see answered by Dr. Paul.

  • Ron Paul isn't perfect but he's miles ahead of the others. *BIG* changes are needed and he's the only one who even talks about deep changes in concrete terms. With Ron Paul it's not just empty rhetoric - he's the real deal.

  • Comment removed

  • @AggressivePrefector *retarded.

  • @lockbwithu Thanks for pointing out my typo.

  • amazing, add some gray to Ron's hair and this could have been filmed today.

  • Lets make this happen with Dr. Paul.

  • You had me at "Get rid of the income tax." LOL

  • If you sit home waiting your turn you deserve to have your gun taken from your cold dead hands.

The Founders didn’t wait for the Brits to knock down their doors. They gathered at the green and stood up like men and they killed government employees all the way back to Boston.

What will you do when it’s time to hunt NWO hacks, republicrats and commies(“Liberals” and ‘progressives’)?

Don't understand? Follow my links. Read the quotes page first. Then read my column ‘Prepping for Slavery’

  • He has a nice nose

  • @Glickstick it's still cute!

  • In 1988, Rick Perry was Al Gore's campaign chairman in Texas.

Look at what Ron Paul was saying and doing in 1988. lol

  • Ron Paul : The same yesterday, today, and forever =_)

  • He is so ahead of his time

  • @hosway1992 No. Behind it! He is the Thomas Jefferson of our age.

  • He's been saying this for 30 years. On one hand, I admire his integrity. On the other, I loathe our stupidity.

  • Ron Paul is the ONLY politician who speaks from the heart and has been ideologically consistent.

  • That interviewer was a typical asshole.

    DR. Paul for President.!!

  • Ron Paul has been trying to beat sense into the American political consciousness for years, and I think he and his fellow libertarians are finally starting to succeed. I finally started to see the light in just the past few years.

Even if he fails to become president, his relentless and passionate arguments for the rights of the individual against the power of government have brought some hope for the future.

  • Ron Paul is brilliant, but he is NOT a politician – the contrast between Dr. Paul and our current crop of narcissistic political “leaders” is shocking. Does anyone believe for a second, that any of these “leaders” have principles they value more than their own personal ambition? Ask yourself what principle Bill Clinton (or any of the others) holds in higher regard than getting his name in the history books?

  • I wish I had not been so insulated. At 42, I am just starting to get a clue

  • Ron Paul, over 20 years ahead of the rest of the pack.

  • Ron Paul never runs out of truth to speak - they always have to cut him off.

  • @Juhsayngul that's SO TRUE

  • He's saying the same things today as in that 1988 interview. Truth doesn't change.

  • The numbers have changed, the message is the same. Ron Paul 2012!

  • Even back then, Ron Paul cared about the young people. It's too bad that too few of the young people of the day listened to him. Finally, though, Dr Paul is being repaid for his kindness with burgeoning support, especially from the young people.

  • If you get cut off during an interview..your doing a good job. If they keep you talking..stop talking.

  • Love what he said about MEXICO & yet nothing has changed since 1988 except that its gotten worse in Mexico --- and he was proven right on the Soviet Union

  • Amazing!

  • Ron Paul 1988! Darn, too late. Ron Paul 2008! Damn it! err Ron Paul 2012!

  • back when the nation debt was a measly 240bil a year...

  • @ghstgirl777 That is because he has an exceptionally good understanding of economics, law and foreign policy, not only that, he has remained consistent for over 30 years regarding what he believes needs to be done for the better of the U.S and other countries. He can look into the long term.

  • Even though I was born in 1988, I wish God gave me knowledge of the federal reserve and the constitutional laws so I could have understood what Ron Paul was trying to tell us. I swear I would've applied for U.S. Citizenship just to vote for Dr. Paul. My best wishes for this man.

  • I was young in '88 and I never heard his voice or even his name. Now I have a child... and government will claim her as a slave.

    Ron Paul 2012

  • He talks in Liberty Defined about how his views on the death penalty have changed (for the better, I'd posit). Don't watch this thinking that old dogs can't learn new tricks!

  • 30years of ownage.

  • I wish ron paul was as coherent now as he was back then, i think it'd be a lot harder for people to dismiss him as a kook

  • i think that ron paul for the 2012 elections needs to put all his energy into the primarys cuase if he can win that the general elections will be no swet he wont even have to spend a dime cuase not only does he have a strong conservative backing of ppl but also extreme liberals like him bill maher called him his hero john stewart has defended him on many ocasions and most libs are not happy with obama cuase hes soft so he would have no problem winning the general election

  • Ron Paul should have been President in 1988. We wouldn't have these problems that we're having now if he was President back then.

  • His message is totally consistent. How do people not realize this.

  • WOW, he is like a psychic! he predicts the future!!! or just tell the truth :) ron paul 2012!

  • Comment removed

  • if you closed your eyes and weren't aware this was 1988, it would sound like he said it yesterday. the most consistant and honest politician. Ron Paul is MY president.

  • it's nice to see him young! vote for ron paul 2012!

  • same message as today. kroenen your absolutly right, primaries are key in this election. in my opinion the primaries are gonna be the biggest challenge. if RP wins there i think the general election will be his without much of a fight

  • @r87y Repubs will not nominate Ron Paul, they rather nominate some1 pretty.

  • "A growing number of people are starting to realize..."

"So the type of government we have today is coming to an end."

Oh good god, this was over twenty years ago!...

  • Comment removed

  • and he was right in 1988 today is 2011 and this country is broke !!!!! tell me he dont know what he's talking about wake up people!!!!!

  • 7:26 Where has Libertarian principle worked before? Instead of rambling on and on, he could have just said where he was likely getting to, the constitution.

  • This man is the frontrunner in the 2012 Presidential election.

Call your television stations, e-mail your newspapers, talk to your neighbors, put on a bumper sticker. Talk about Ron Paul. I don't support several items Ron Paul advocates, but damnit,.... do you really trust anyone else to fix this stupid debt problem that Republicans & Democrats created??????

Ron Paul is the frontrunner for 2012

  • Wow! I was 8 years old then. We still are in a fubar system.

  • And voters still prefer NeoCons. Absolutely pathetic.

  • @kappy0405 monkey see monkey do... media rules the minds of the USA and the minds of the USA dont see much of ron paul

  • @scmthrasher - Indeed.

  • So good of him to protect me from being taxed to help poor people. Why do I suspect he really means he wants to protect himself and rich people from being taxed?

  • @macroman52 That's right. Then you could take that money you weren't taxed and choose to give it to the charity of your choice, to a homeless shelter, or any other private organization which does a better job of taking care of the poor than our broken, corrupt, immoral govt.

  • @TaoOfOkada Perhaps you could offer some evidence that paying a government benefit to people who lose their job (in a recession) while they look for work, is worse than letting them rely on charity. That is, what is the evidence than a charity "does a better job". And you would need to take into account what the charities could do if there were no unemployment benefits, making their job that much harder. And please notice, I haven't said charities do a bad job.

  • @macroman52 I totally see your point. Yes, the unemployed absolutely need help. But there needs to be a fundamental change in the monetary system and the way govt deals with businesses. As it stands right now, huge corporations get all the benefits while small business gets it up the rear end. Small businesses comprise 70% of the economy. If govt gets the hell out of the way more people will be put back to work, lessening the need for our ineffecient welfare system.

  • Comment removed

  • @macroman52 One more thing, thanks for a level headed, rational debate instead of name calling and bomb throwing...cheers.

  • @macroman52 he doesn't favor taxes on anyone, including the poor, and he makes the point that inflation is a tax on the poor.

  • Ron Paul should still be running for President for the Libertarian Party. He's anti all forms of Big Government and no longer fits in with the Republican Party. And could put the Libertarian Party on the map in American Politics.

  • Ron Paul OWNED this dude. He quickly had to cut him off..

  • @richarcm you ron paul gropies are so pathetic.don't u know journalists are supposed to ask questions to politicians?get off your knees and stop sucking he's old cock.u look just like the obama fanboys of 2008

  • @richarcm You could tell that this guy was hoping to make a fool at out Dr. Paul. FAIL!

I guess back then people didn't know who he was or how intelligent he was/is.

  • can you notice my hard on? This guy is insane he has always said the same thing forever!!!!

  • oh my god ron paul is a beast. he always shows these people up.

  • I don't think he's remained consistent.

He's gone from "get rid of big gov." to

get rid of the funding for big government.

That's not the same thing, he wants to prevent congress from spending money.

That's where he loses me, I actually support the constitution.

I support him on getting rid of big federal government.

I don't support him on his method(s) to get there.

We need more congressmen like him, say 230 more... (and 60-65 in the senate)

He's wasting him time running for president.

  • @Turtlehands I think that he is getting his message across; maybe not to majority, but definitely younger generations.

  • This is so funny he is saying the exact same shit today

  • Think about it, he knows what is Right for the People, thats why he will not win, because people don't hold power, corporations do that.

  • REPUBLICAN PARTY WILL BE PROSECUTED BY US GOVERNMENT! REAGAN MADE SOVIET UNION DISSAPEAR, NOW RUSSIANS OPENED THEIR BORDERS AND THEIR EYES AND BECOMING CAPITALISTIC COUNTRY!

CHINA MUST PAY FINE TO USA FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

USA SHOWED CHINA HOW TO MAKE MONEY, NOW CHINA SELLS TO THE WHOLE WORLD AND BECAME RICH, WTF, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY CHINESE STUDENTS TAKE SEATS FROM AMERICAN STUDENTS? AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES MUST BELONG TO AMERICAN STUDENTS ! PLEASE DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS MADE IN CHINA!

  • did he say import tax

  • I wish he was still this young

    = (

  • i've been traversing rp vids....his voice is the same across 2 decades....talk about a golden voice!
