For Neso1991, let me tell you, I think the drug trade will exist whether FARC exists or not, sure, but that does not excuse FARC from protecting coca fields and be participants of the trade. It makes it that much harder to end this evil. There's no way that drug trade and FARC have nothing to do with each other. Seriously, have a good read, from someone in captivity, it really helps you shine a light on this situation.
Some people talk about socialism as if these FARC represented that in Colombia. Let me just make it clear, they DON'T!! People in Colombia are sick and tired of this group (and of paramilitaries). Death to the people that they supposedly represent, kidnapping, drug taxation, this is what FARC really represents. I suggest some of you read the stories of those who have been captive but now are fortunate to be free. Then, give an opinion about this issue.
Calling people gringo is not going to get you anywhere. Living in Colombia will be a good start for an opinion. I love Colombia. My wife is Colombian. I am sick of the Farc and all the other Para's. The average Colombian wants to take care of his family, work in peace and live in harmony. The Farc kill everything in their path to sustain their so called "liberation" movement. Extortion, Cocaine, murder, thievery is not liberation.
The Colombian conflict has more to do with than you think. I am guessing your wife is part of the 10 million Colombians who live like kings, while the rest of Colombians live in poverty. Colombian society is controlled by the rich, while the poor are abused and degraded. Any American aid worldwide is an aid of terror and politics. America wants to destroy Socialism and destroy anything that threatens or opposes their ideology. Many nations where they overthrew and sucked their economy can speak.
This is so stupid I read "where civilians are constantly caught in the crossfire." What bull is this? They are not caught in crossfire, they are the targets of the guerrillas, the weakest are peasants and the isolated towns get attacked and the police and army have to rush in choppers and sometimes when they arrive it's a little late. FARC are terrorists and so is whoever supports them.
I know this because I lived in Colombia long, and the town of a relative of my mother was once invaded by them and the FARC were searching houses to capture or kill people and they had to leave and escape through the backdoor of their house, otherwise they would most probably had gotten shot or made to serve in the FARC, apart from stealing whatever they have in their home of value.
Alvaro Uribe is by far the most popular president in South America for a reason: He's the best. Uribe is the best friend any administration in the United States could ever dream off. Uribe is an authentic workaholic that is changing Colombia for the better.
What bitches! Know your history instead of what news anchors with make-up and fake smiles tell you. Changing the channel while you are on your couch shoving mcdonalds into your mouth doesn't make you an informed source about such a complex issue as Columbia's civil war. Read a fucking book and get informed!
make sure who is writing the book as well. These reporters, newspapers, and even former FARC members are getting paid a lot to lie and create negative propaganda about the FARC....same as Batista tried to do against Castro and his forces.
HOWEVER, i think the time is coming for the FARC to ATTACK and take over. 15,000 soldiers is sufficient in the cause.
They should come out and attack. It makes it a lot easier for us to kill them. By the way if you like them so much why don't you go join them. Maybe you can be a revolutionary too and fight for their cause. I'm sure they'll take you in... I heard they were stepping up recruitment efforts after all their guys got killed. hahaha lol
The paramilitary groups kill far more peasants then the FARC and they do it with Culumbian and American funds, weapons and information. The FARC is the most legitimate power system in Columbia. The Columbian government has always been an institution of violence and the FARC has always worked to achieve equality and peace through negotiations.
Hey commie: Brother, first of all learn how to spell COLOMBIA. Second of all, the FARC's only purpose if to fill its commanders' pockets with cash. They do not give a damn about the Colombian people. They would have done a lot a long time ago; but all they have done is bring destruction, death and commotion to a beautiful country.
The Marxist FARC guerrillas are criminals and terrorists. They are no longer just a Marxist ideologically motivated guerrilla. Their motivation is now the profits from the cocaine business. They become more corrupt and criminal than the drug dealers. They give protection to drug dealers and are now in the drug business themselves. Colombia needs help to eliminate FARC terrorists.
The gov backed paramilitaries are also up to there eyeballs in the cocaine trade. Cocaine will flow out of Columbia FARC or no FARC. They have no effect. Even if the civil war ever ended in Columbia criminal gangs would continue the trade. The only thing that can stop cocaine is if America stops consuming it. We need to just legalize it to stop the violence and get addicts treatment to stop the demand.
I'm in agreement on this point; "The only thing that can stop cocaine is if America stops consuming it. We need to just legalize it to stop the violence and get addicts treatment to stop the demand." however, you're absolutely wrong on the line "the gov backed paramilitaries" The fact is the government of Colombia under Uribe has put in jail more paramilitaries than any other government in Colombia's history. FARC Marxist terrorists have effective misinformation channels to defame the gov.
Of course cocaine will still be consumed and traded even when and if the FARC is gone. The FARC have nothing to do with the cocaine trade and they never did. Plan Colombia has nothing to do with cocaine, but its a political battle of ideologies. Capitalism vs. Socialism. American should leave the South alone and let Socialism prosper.
@Neso1991 you're so fucking ignorant, stop talking about shit you don't know nothing, where do you think they get their money in the first place, and you're so fucking wrong dude,
don't talk about my country like you know it cuz you don't know shit so shut the fuck up
and el che was a cold blooded murderer just like this fucking terrorists they are not the people's army, they kill the people
Nothing is ever the FARC's fault. They don't kick out the indiginous people, they are forced to by the government. THey don't want to kidnap people, the're just forced to by the gov when the gov doesn't step down. Give me a break! The FARC are cowards. They blame the victims of their acts and the government and divert the focus because they can't bare to look at themselves and see what they really are.

Although Al Jazeera does it right at highlighting the role of the guerrillas in the Colombian civil war, it has to be equally stressed that the government plays a definite role. Following Washington's instructions, the Colombian government protects foreign investors and forces peasants and natives out of their lands.
