For Neso1991, let me tell you, I think the drug trade will exist whether FARC exists or not, sure, but that does not excuse FARC from protecting coca fields and be participants of the trade. Some people talk about socialism as if these FARC represented that in Colombia. Let me just make it clear, they DON'T!! People in Colombia are sick and tired of this group (and of paramilitaries). The Colombian conflict has more to do with than you think. I am guessing your wife is part of the 10 million Colombians who live like kings, while the rest of Colombians live in poverty. I know this because I lived in Colombia long, and the town of a relative of my mother was once invaded by them and the FARC were searching houses to capture or kill people and they had to leave and escape through the backdoor of their house, otherwise they would most probably had gotten shot or made to serve in the FARC, apart from stealing whatever they have in their home of value.

The paramilitary groups kill far more peasants then the FARC and they do it with Culumbian and American funds, weapons and information. The FARC is the most legitimate power system in Columbia. The Columbian government has always been an institution of violence and the FARC has always worked to achieve equality and peace through negotiations.

The gov backed paramilitaries are also up to there eyeballs in the cocaine trade. Cocaine will flow out of Columbia FARC or no FARC. They have no effect. Of course cocaine will still be consumed and traded even when and if the FARC is gone. The FARC have nothing to do with the cocaine trade and they never did.
