  • Do you remember if these were the stock pickups in this? If not, what were they?

  • @XTC101B I know they were not stock. Voodoo's or Burstbuckers. Maybe a combo of both?

  • @skydog46 Thanks for the quick response! You were getting a KILLER tone here! I have a Tom Holmes set in my LP Standard, and they are fantastic, but I am setting up another LP for this type of Peter Green tone. Disregarding the actual PAF pickups you have played, what make of humbuckers would you recommend above any other? Thanks a lot for your input...awesome playing and tone!

  • @XTC101B Holmes and ThroBaks!!

  • I've always love that almost nasal sound of Peter Greens guitar. The way he would have it nice and thin and then worm it up in a long bend with a volume tweak. This mode you have here is bang on. Great job and nice touch as well love it.

  • this sounds nice.good playing my friend!

  • damn that neck pu sounds so sweet on the higher frets.

  • Man, seriously good licks in there! Your phrasing is real nice!

  • Hey Skydog, what pickups does he have in this LP,

You're makin it speaks to me, nice!

  • best guitar i ever owned. no other guitar can come close this quality

  • Unfortunately it doesn't sound at all like Peter Green. Unfortunately it sounds like shit as well. Good job making a Gibson sound bad.

  • love that neck PU

  • Great playing and tone.

  • No matter how many people mod their guitars to have that Peter Green sound NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE can make it sound like Greeny did. Not even Gary Moore who had Peter"s magic guitar.

  • Beautiful! I don't know what everyone else is talking about; but this guy is one of the VERY FEW Gibson Historic owners who can actually play. Forget about the camera. If you were there while this video was recorded you would be creaming over the tone.

  • is that a jimmy page number 2?

  • looks more like a 60 ri..

  • what amp is that one?

  • OMG! I JIZZ IN MY PANTS!.. haha... awesome tone and playing =)

  • When he switched at 1:14 , that sound was amazing

  • wen ur playin on the bridge p/u u sound very clapton, santana esque..

    nice man

  • this dude listens to a lot of jimmy page

  • @davemawston6 Gotta love a bit of Jimmy though ....I understand you never said it was a bad thing - just hommage to a legand :-)

  • What kind of pickups is that guitar equipped with?

  • nice playing, nice guitar!!!

    5*

  • This boy got the devil in him I tell ya. Rock and roll in his blood.

  • ha that sounds like my middle position. i accidentally wired my new pickup out of phase.

  • I love dimension the out of phase effect adds. By the way sounds something like C maj pent....close

  • Comment removed

  • sounds brilliant!

  • I though the Peter Green guitar had the nexk pickup the wrong way round so it is out of phase, this guitar looks like a normal les paul apart from the bridge cover has been removed. ;os. Sounds sweet though and nicely played.

  • Yes, You are absolutely right, but you can achieve the 'out of phase tone' by reversing the ground with the hot wire when soldering to the switch, or pot!

  • definetely one of the best sounding LP on YouTube and in the right hands

  • Hi,

How come your's got covers on the pickups? are these new pickups or covers over the original ones? Thanks.

  • you've played more notes here than Greeny played in his entire career.

  • Right....I forgot....If I want to practice just like Green did....what is my note limit?...See these are the things I need to know....good thing there's experienced guitarists around to tell me this stuff. Thanks dude!!!!

  • Hmmm... Sounds a bit like like sarcasm... haha

    Play on, Skydog.

  • Nice jam dude - love the les paul!

  • Muahaha i stole your licks :D

  • dude!! that looks just like my les paul. who is this guy?

  • Tasty sounds and playing there !

  • what pickup is that

  • Starts with the Bridge pick-up. Around 1:15 he switches to the neck, then back to the bridge for the end stuff.

  • Great playing there matey !

    Love the tone big time.

Is it always '' out of phase '' then?

  • I thought Peter Green used a 59

  • You're right. Green used a 59.

  • How does the mod work then? Can you get the normal humbucking sound out of the back pickup too? I have a couple of Historics and would love to get the PG tone, but was told since it doesn't have 4 wires I couldn't, any suggestions? I don't want to install new pickups in it though. Thanks.Great playing too.

  • MAM,I think you can still have all worlds(neck, bridge, both and out of phase with both on)Do you know a real good tech?I have a push/pull pot that lets me switch in/out of phase.I saw David Hidalgo of Los Lobos doing that on a song called Mas e Mas.Good luck,Dan

  • what do you have to do to get that tone then?

  • Heard some Page and Clapton in your style

  • Middle Position! Put it in the MIDDLE POSITION!

  • Ya man, mines a heritage cherry sunburst

  • Can you say what model and year this guitar is please? The pups are ace, what exactly are they? The playing is really cool btw.

  • obviously your inspiration is jimmy pageeeyy. love the shirt. keep rockin.

  • i think its more bb king, which pagey happens to sound alot like

  • so in other words....Jimmy page but coincidentally BB King... i mean he IS wearing a Zeppelin shirt..

    just saying.

  • so people cant have multiple influences?

  • Well it's probably Duane Allman, cuz, well his screen name is SKY DOG!!

  • Very funky nasal tone! I wish I could hear it better, the recording makes it sound too thin.

Early '90s Classics are great value & feel like 'real American' guitars. Mine sounds halfway like a 335 it's so light. Nice playing skydog.

  • cool awesome you got the real whole jimmy page style going on

  • Lots of ways of getting two pickups out of phase. Peter Green got it by accident when the magnet of one pickup was flipped either at the factory or while the pickup was repaired. I will usually have a push/pull pot do the deed for me so I can get the best of both worlds. It's a very nasal tone that's sounds best with the pickups in series to replace the volume loss.. Of course I have a second switch to put the pickups in series or in parallel too.

  • i love that style of your playing

  • Can you tell me which pickups are in this guitar? Thanks!

  • half of the tone comes from Peter Greens fingers and soul

  • the quality of this video is very bad, i think, but i'm sure that this guitar sounds great...

  • The quality of the video is 16bit stereo. So I'm not sure what your deal is.

  • Oh...sorry this is my friends camera....not mine.

  • wow.. stop please! stooop! o my God.. stop!

  • That bad? Or??/

  • I think you are a MONSTER OF GUITAR!really! Have you got an advice for me?please! I play guitar too but not like you...

PS: I'm sorry for my bad english because I'm an italian.. XDD

  • does the mod change the tone of the trebble or rythm pickups or just the inbetween

  • how expensive to do a peter green mod and did u do it ur self

  • Yes.

  • grat sounding guitar and amp. are you playing straight into the amp or through an overdrive?

  • what mod was done to it? doesnt sound anything out of the ordinary.

  • The magnet was flipped and the in between pos. is now out of phase.

  • dude ur pal must be jealous :P

  • search

    jankowski pathos texas

    its me

  • what year is your LP....1997?

  • you skydog nice playing man,

how do you rate the 1960 classics compared with a standard?

  • I think they're better...IMO

  • I thought the peter green mod was flipping the neck humbucker so the screws are on the bridge side. Then when you flip it to the middle you get this awesome out of phase tone.

  • the out of phase tone is from the magnet being flipped within the pick-up,

peter greens whole humbucker was the wrong way around like you describe, but its the way the magnet is facing that matters.

  • Son of a B***! I want to play like that!!

  • Ya can still hear it a lil bit cantcha?

  • Hi, very good demo. You've got all the licks..

What pickups are in there? What kind of amp is that?

    Love and peace

  • The amp looks like a Line 6 Flextone II.

  • No, it's a Blockhead Marshall 18w clone.

  • thats some freakin awesome zeppelin tone.

  • hey dude th'at's not a peter green ! THAT'S A JIMMY PAGE !

look at the bridge pickup and the colour of the sunburst

  • FAT ASS TONE!!

  • Looks more like the pagey mod to me.

  • SOUNDS very pagey as well

  • what is the Peter Green mod? That's to say, what makes it Peter Green?

  • check my vid if you wanna know :)

  • becuase peter green was well known for that nasal out of phase tone several years before page was much inluence.

  • ur really good and thats a sweet guitar

  • oh my god ! isn't it a jimmy page signature ???? wooooow !

  • it s a bare knuckle pg pick up?

  • sweet tone

  • Wow ! Cool ! Very Greeny

  • are you using the marshall 62 bluesbreaker in the backround

  • Questions: what year is that guitar and how did you get that Peter Green tone (any effects added).

  • mines a heritage cherry sunburst

  • Sweet! I checked out the Skatterbrane's last night and they look pretty impressive. Keep the vids coming.

  • jimmy page my ass, that is SRV all the way including that signatrure riff of SRV at 0:21, nice tone with a les paul, w/e kinda of amp that it looks like a mesa

  • Signature riff? Its a blues turnaround. Anyway, I think they were commenting on the out of phase tone sounded a little Pagey like since his guitar has a push pull pot for out of phase playing.

  • Good sound ! and very good playing !!

  • Yeah the tone is nice and it does sound like Jimmy Page, I love it!

  • Was it maybe a burstbucker put into the neck position?

  • and also wen u had it on the Treble Pickups!! that was the Perfect Jimmy Page Tone!!!!! nice playin!

  • looks like the Jimmy Page Signature Les Paul!!! but u may have just took the cover of the bridge Pickup.

  • i thought the same except the tunning pegs arn't gold grover kidney beans

  • i think those tuning pegs look better anyway!

  • Good Blues Man, Good Les Paul too!

  • I'd sell one of my organs for that guitar tone.

  • Check out the "P. Green Humbucker" ($300 a set) in the Custom Shop section of the Seymour Duncan website.

  • You can get the PG sound with cheaper pickups and a couple of pull pots for series parallel and phase effects, or you can mess around with your pickups and possibly wreck them.

PG had the same sound with a Strat, so a lot of it is down to the guy and his amp (orange i believe).

  • I 'Messed around' with my pickups and it didn't 'wreck them at all. Just added more tonal variety

  • what was the exact mod, because I'm about to buy the 60 classic (97) off my friend and the only thing I was worried was that the stock 496R/500T were gonna have to much of a modern "metal" tone and I'm huge on vintage tone, so if ya could help me out I'd appericiate it because that tone is KILLER!

    thanx

    Dustin

  • That's some slick blues playing, and a nice sounding Les Paul too.

  • thanks bro!!!

  • have you simply flipped the magnet round in one of the p/u? peter green is king!

its funny how you can link all the brit players with there fave american originals,

ie, Green - BB King Clapton - Albert King

obviously ther is more to there pallet then jus these guys but i doubt they wud argue with me wen i say these are amoungst there faves. did i mention Peter Green is king?

  • Great player--lot's of tone and vibe. The Paul sounds sweet!

  • Nicely played! Ya talking about pickup screws? IMO, if they're all basically the same the only ones that need worrying about are the G and B (that wisdom comes from Joe Walsh). Same goes for intonation, if the G or B are out it'll sound like shit.

  • Is this is a real 1960 or the reissue model?

  • You throwed in some Led Zep right?

  • dude that geetar is god dam sweeeet!

  • Holy Shit now thats something i love to listen to :D

  • you play good man!

    nice guitar.
