  • I love seeing the concept of the hero's journey show up in all sorts of different movies. Especially well documented here. If you haven't yet you should check out the film Finding Joe, it centers around Joseph Campbell and his life's work. Extremely inspiring and entertaining. findingjoethemovie(dot)com

  • I prefer Joseph Campbell's model to Vogler's model. Where Vogler presents the Journey as something only completed once (a straight line); Campbell's model features a circle to represent the never ending sequence of the Hero's Journey. A good representation of the functions can be seen in the documentary Finding Joe. findi ngjoethemovi e.c om

  • Great video. Summaries the journey nicely. Gandolf is the mentor because he is guiding all the entire group plus he's also the one who gets the ball rolling for the hero. He sets Frodo out on the journey. Aragorn is a only temporarily wearing the mask of mentor until they get to Rivendale. Aragorn is also playing the role of ally.

  • Excellent! This helped me a lot.
