I finally got to see the movie, WOW!!! The film's premier in San Francisco and in Florence, Italy was mobbed by people dancing and singing in the theater. Film maker Bernardo Bertolluci cried at the Florence premier and said that he dreamed of having an experience where the audience would get up and interact with the movie.

There is a warning though about seeing the new DVD re-issue of the film due to the original film's VHS release problems. The 1999 DVD re-issue is the one to see.....

It has nothing to do with drugs. Byrne delivers with far too much precision to be stoned. This whole album/concert is about stripping performance down to the FUNK level. Raw-Funky-Fun. Shades of the old P-Funk days (he even uses some of George Clinton's musicians in his show). Take Me To The River is an interp of an Al Green tune. What he looses in sexual energy (compared to Al Green) he makes up for in energy and fun. I think it's the best Rock and Roll concert film ever.

@grapeman56 Of course not. It wasn't just a "show", it was a concert MOVIE. The band put $1.2 million of their OWN money in to make this "Stop Making Sense" movie over 2 or 3 nights so I am sure they did not do drugs at any time while making it. Byrne drew storyboards for everything that happened in each song right down to instruments being painted black.

You must have them confused with Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett. He was on LSD very often.
