I want to go so bad. I start high school next year and I am very nervous because I will try so hard but what if my hardest is not enough for Berkeley?
Berkeley is made up of people of all corners of the country and globe (to include LA, of which I originally reside from). However, it does not matter how large your village, town, city, or metropolis is--in physical terms--if you never venture outside of it, you will forever be a peasant, in a village, who fears the world and will never engage it. I was speaking to the redneck racists who hate places like Berkeley because it represents something they could never understand... the world.
It is most likely the diversity and non close-minded worldview that troubles you and makes places like Berkeley (and most of the world) scary to the narrow-minded and ethnocentric village you grew up in.
A few years ago a UK ranking of universities around the world placed Berkeley #2 behind Harvard (Cambridge and Oxford followed Berkeley). However, Berkeley placed #1 in "peer review", the most important element of the overall ranking. Berkeley ranks first nationally in the number of graduate programs in the top 10 in their fields, according to the most recent NRC study. In the study, 35 of Berkeley's 36 graduate programs ranked in the top 10 in their fields. Berkeley rocks.
So true, rivalries are always fun, and in true form, one cannot deny that Berkeley remains the top-ranked publicly-funded university on earth. While "publicly funded" continues to be a pejorative label among the insider-circles of the overly privileged and entitled; the most concise and profound difference between Stanford and Berkeley is similar to the difference between USC and UCLA or an aristocratic Spa-University and a public Research-University.
Man..I'm still in disbelief...never in a million years would I have thought that I would get into the school most envy to be in. Plus...I got in it with the most competitive major...so makes me feel super achieved.....I feel that they made a mistake when reading my application....but my friends tell that being accepted to 4 uc's campuses is no accident. I did something right..i guess?
btw longhorn, uc berkeley has an EXCLUSIVE contract with the us govt to develop and test all govt nuclear weapons...now call me crazy but this seems to contradict your "liberal, left-wing, anti-marine" views of berkeley.

I wouldn't want to go there anyway, so it does not matter. I'm International, BTW, from the Philippines but I'm half French. So, Berkeley, here I come!!! wuuuuuu!!! I'm so excited...
why do foreigners get excepted everywhere? i really hope you were kidding about those other schools you got into because that just shows you how ridiculous the application system is. no offense, but im sure your not any more qualified than the other people that didnt get in to some of those colleges. but just because your from out the country you get a golden ticket. congrats i guess, im attending ucla myself.
are you serious? it's so fking hard to get into schools here if you're from other countries... UCs especially undergrads are 97% instate 3% out of state... they give no special treatment to foreign kids... did you ever stop to think that that guy got a 2400, perfect grades and might even be rich?
and also,since the grading system is so different foreigners are held to a much higher standard than us fortuned Californians... and if you're not from California you shouldn't fking be talking because being that 3% that's out of state you were in the same boat as him except his side of the boat was sinking
The ad features Cal athletics because it plays during televised football games. University of California Golden Bear football games. Maybe you've heard of them? Currently ranked #3 in the nation?
Unlike some previous Cal ads...I think this one does a great job of showing the many sides of the University.
