The actual facts are less dramatic than some would have you think.
According to the University, someone from the White House staff asked them to cover "university signage and symbols," not the Catholic symbol for Jesus. The IHS monogram was still visible in 26 other places in the hall during the speech.
just suppose....the mayor of you town decides to come to YOUR house to make a speech , photo op ..say about, Urban Renewal. He gets there and asks you to cover up a picture of your grandmother because her colors clash with ..say , his suit. How would you react? Don't be stupid and think for a second that there wasn't a purpose behind that stunt at Georgetown.
For the record... the only reason this was asked to be covered was because they (White House) did not want to create a conflict with the Presidential colors of the American Flags in the background. Their were several other IHS symbols in the room and other religious symbols in the room that were not covered.
Only the IHS symbol immdeiately behind the
Presidential rostrum was covered. This is just another made up controversy by you know who!!!
If they want to be pissed off at anyone they should be pissed off at the Catholic church for meeting the request so willingly and without question. These are the same people who for years have given child rapists a free pass so I am not surprised. I imagine had he made the same request in other religions they would have refused. You are right in saying it is a non issue as far as Obama goes.
Furthermore I would like to add that the black triangle everyone is so freaked out about is simply cut to fit into the already existing space. These people are paranoid and with good reason. They think he is the anti Christ and they are afraid. What if he is.. then what? What would they do? If you ask me they should really worry about cleaning up their own act a bit more and worry a little less about spreading hate and lies.
This is so ridiculous. I was in the room during the event. The room is full of religious symbols. To the right and left of Obama's head, you could read "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam inque Hominum Salutem" which translates to "for the greater glory of God and the salvation of humanity." There are crosses and IHS's all over the place. None of them were covered. This is just the right trying to add fodder to the ridiculous "Obama is a muslim socialist" argument.
I loved your video. I came across a site that will help your channel/video become more popular. It has really helped me out a great deal. The name is Tubeviews . Net
Most Christians identify our Lord as Jesus Christ. The "symbol-IHS" that was covered up is used to represent a particular sect of people who identify themselves as Christian. The Jesuits! Putting the fact that Obama is not a Jesuit aside , the White House just wanted to keep religion and government separate and not look as though they were seeking to establish a sect . The same people complaining about the symbol being covered up are the same ones who would draw more conspiracies if he had not.
The latter holy missionary, at the end of his sermons, was wont to exhibit this monogram devoutly to his audience, for which some blamed him; he was even called before Martin V. St. Ignatius of Loyola adopted the monogram in his seal as general of the Society of Jesus (1541), and thus it became the emblem of his institute. IHS was sometimes wrongly understood as "Jesus Hominum (or Hierosolymae) Salvator", i.e. Jesus, the Saviour of men (or of Jerusalem=Hierosolyma).
Towards the close of the Middle Ages IHS became a symbol, quite like the chi-rho in the Constantinian period. Sometimes above the H appears a cross and underneath three nails, while the whole figure is surrounded by rays. IHS became the accepted iconographical characteristic of St. Vincent Ferrer (d. 1419) and of St. Bernardine of Siena (d. 1444).
In Latin the learned abbreviation IHC rarely occurs after the Carlovingian era. The monogram became more popular after the twelfth century when St. Bernard insisted much on devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, and the fourteenth, when the founder of the Jesuati, Blessed John Colombini (d. 1367), usually wore it on his breast.
From the beginning, however, in Christian inscriptions the nomina sacra, or names of Jesus Christ, were shortened by contraction, thus IC and XC or IHS and XPS for Iesous Christos. These Greek monograms continued to be used in Latin during the Middle Ages. Eventually the right meaning was lost, and erroneous interpretation of IHS led to the faulty orthography "Jhesus".
A monogram of the name of Jesus Christ. From the third century the names of our Saviour are sometimes shortened, particularly in Christian inscriptions (IH and XP, for Jesus and Christus). In the next century the "sigla" (chi-rho) occurs not only as an abbreviation but also as a symbol.
