  • HOLY CRAP Hopkins looks intense when he directs at 1:17.

  • @apachedann1 Thats not Hopkins.. lol Its Cipriani the brass caption head.

  • I hear chorale and shaker dance haha

  • whats up with the car? lol thats ramdom

  • 1:01 wow

  • Double A (and amazing) at 1:30 and Epicness at 4:00 - 4:14, AND I've been a hardcore Phantom fan since Faust (2006) I'm impressed with the sound

  • I have been a Phantom Fan since there championship year in 1996.I am impressed with Cadets sound all the time.

  • if you are meaning the lead trumpet note its a double g concert f

  • i think i came at 1:31 xD

    great sounding corps

  • @Holmes1216

forget that, i came at 1:16

  • @theDEVILdog0300 forget that, I came at 2:22.

  • I love phillip bliss it's so moving

  • i think i shat myself when i first heard this video

  • So I guess the guy in the yellow ferrari was like "They sound awesome!"

  • DAMN!! i fuckin love simple gifts!! The Cadets fuckin rock!!

  • pursuit of happiness simple gifts was better lol

  • Yea simple gifts in the pursuit of happiness was much better. I would give the pursuit of happiness simple gifts a 9.8 and this simple gifts a 8.2

  • this simple gifts is way better than the pursuit of happiness simple gifts

  • i love the cadets but they got sloppy at rocky point. they're dragging through the runs and letting their sound leak. but its just one day other wise they play that much cleaner.

  • dragging through the runs? uhh...not really.

  • Yes, in Rocky Point at the beginning and ending runs in the Trumpets were out of time. The attack after the flawless run in the Mello's was off too...open your ears.

  • Yeah, I've definitely heard them perform all of these exercises/tunes better.

  • OMFG DIS IS AMAZING!!!! Simple Gifts is one of the one most amazing songs ever!!!!

  • Again....GREAT sounding band!

  • Drum corps, not band... And Gino Cipriani is one of the most experienced and talented brass caption heads in DCI. Trust me, his interesting conducting patterns are perfectly appropriate.

  • I was in that corps. And I played baritone....there was plenty of low end. We were-in fact- the loudest section in the corps that year. But I guess you're just posting to get people to disagree with you, that's fine. But you're ignorant.

  • Interesting conducting patterns....still haven't decided if it's appropriate or not?? Great conducting...just not seeing his energy matched in the sound. Almost as if he has a show of his own going on instead of conducting the show to be heard???

GREAT SOUNDING BAND!!! Would like to hear more depth from the lower end of the band!

  • To get the low brass effect you would have to be live. The sound would literally smack you in the face.

  • Not a big fan of judging clips vs live experience but I listen to lots of brass choirs and bands both on the net and in person. I think I have a pretty balanced ear deciphering between to the two...which is why I think the band in this clip on the pieces performed are TOP HEAVY....whether I was there or not. :/

  • gtfo.

  • You think it sounds top heavy because of the bad recording. I marched in corps and like the guy said you have to hear it live is an understatment. It would blow your mind at how the low brass kicks your ass. Spirit of Atlanta '82,'83,'84,'85. And by the way it is a drum and bugle corps not a band!!!!

  • this is one of the top groups in the world and its not a band its a drum corps. a big big difference. its not top heavy. theres plenty of base. i saw these guys live trust me there is plenty of bass end

  • It's a drum corp not a band......

  • are you implying that the rules of balance don't apply in drum corps :/ ?

  • I have marched corps and one of the most wonderful things that wows me is how a corps can change style and how they can perfect contrast between different pieces. Way to go for achieving that between Bliss and Rocky Point in this video.

  • I love this sound. Also couldn't help but notice, ballin' posture all around.

  • jesus christ, i couldn't follow gino at all.

  • amazing, thats how a hornline should sound, the last tune played i can remember watching that being played at 83 finals and couldnt believe the m+m and sound they put out, garfield 83 is still my top corps routine EVER.

hopefully i might get to a show if one is one nearby when i go over to visit my brother next summer. ive only ever been to and taken part in dcuk

  • the second song. On Hymnsong Of Philip Bliss....

sounds amazing when a core plays it... i thought our concertband did good but wow...

  • this is drum corps buddy WAY different

  • i am in love with gino cipriani and his conducting

  • ok mr. cadetsop2006....why don't you either reveal who you are or say who you marched with?? ORRR admit you made all this up? because no one in our trumpet line in 2006 when on to march another to 12 corps, unless you marched a corps 13 on down and I don't know about it...but its pretty lame to make up that you marched with me and didn't

  • I know who he is I think. He left the camp after I got there and went to Devils....if it is who I think it is....

  • scratch that......just read everything. I don't remember anyone leaving in 06 and heading to another corps in 07 either....hmmmm.....

  • lols Gino Conducting simple ifts

  • yeah it is a little sloppy, i would admit...we're def. a hornline thats fun to watch live because a camera recording doesn't justify the true passion and volume of this hornline, especially with the sudden FF volumes we hit out of nowhere...its easy to pick a apart the errors on a recording

  • well for the "number 2" hornline in dci in 2007, there sure are alot of errors. way too many for a second place corps.

  • so why is it you're hating on the Cadets? your profile name claims you marched with them?? thats pretty classy...

  • i just call it like i see it. and yes, i did march with cadets. soprano by the way. quite honestly i didnt enjoy the summer i spent there, thats why i didnt go back. oh and dont mistake "playing with passion" for overblowing.

  • you marched the 2006 show...i wouldnt have enjoyed not playing either

  • you marched 2006? i wouldnt have enjoyed not playing either...

  • yes i marched 2006. didnt like it. changed corps. went on to bigger and better things in my dci career.

  • but yet you have a username that says Cadets?? may i ask where you marched?? because i was in the Cadets trumpet line the last few years and i don't recall anyone marching 06 with us and 07 somewhere else that was a trumpet

  • it says cadets b/c i didnt feel like making a new screen name on here so i just left it. yes you can ask where i marched, but you wont get an answer. we may have beaten you, we may not. you will never know. either way my summer was ten times better where i went.

  • ok whatever you say....btw it says you joined march 18th 2008?? so like 8 months after the season with another corps you didn't feel like changing you're screen name? but thats cool you won't admit where you went, i wouldn't either if i was a bag...

  • ok you are right... i did join on this name not long ago... i didnt think you would be that ridiculous, as to go and check that shit. either way. i marched cadets 06 sopline and marched elsewhere afterwards. end of story. and i can assure you that i am not a bag... although i seem to remember the cadets being one of my worse auditions and making it. that says alot about the caliber of players there.

  • that ridiculous?? you claim to be someone who marched with me...which i don't believe...so of course i'm going to 'check that shit' out...i know its so difficult for me to click on you're screename. I was really making a research project out of it

  • believe what you want... i marched cadets, didnt like it, marched somewhere else... plain and simple. i think you might be upset that someone who marched there didnt like it and went to a better corps.

  • ok well i know for a fact you didn't beat us wherever you went....so whatever....

  • You didn't march for no corps, Cadets stop the act, Playinball04 has called your bluff.

  • how are you going to sit there and tell me what i did and didnt do? you have no clue who i am. what is your source of information that told you i didnt march? so i can laugh at it for being wrong.

  • it absolutley IS overblowing...thats a drum corps hornline play very loud and overblow. ok ok so not EVERY hornline 'overblows' but you're going to push a lot more air through the horn to reach the volumes corps like The Cadets, Phantom, BD and Vanguard do...sure some corps don't overblow, but they don't get as loud....to each their own...btw, I like loud

  • i love loud corps just like every other dci fan out there. but loud with a good sound and loud b/c of overblowing is two completely different things. phantom is another corps out there that plays loud as balls, but they play louder than they can with a good sound.

  • I think you need to be quiet and enjoy the video.

  • hey will everyone stop talking shit!! I cant hear the beautiful music.

  • so i noticed something about this warm up... it wasnt all that great... and before anyone asks, i did march.

  • Yea, for a high school...

  • no, sorry to disappoint you. but it was actually for a corps.

  • come to think of it... it was this corps. although not this year

  • I noticed this warm-up seems pretty consistent with warm-ups from years past.

Does anyone know how long they have been playing this (specifically hymnsong and then rocky point)?

  • As far as I can remember...Garfield played Rocky Point back around 1982 or so....hymnsong was the ballad for the 1993 show.

I know our show (Cadets '07) was fast like hell, but 1993 was another fast show too. They needed that ballad.

  • 97 and 99 were brutal too. in 99 the drum solo was around 232 during the quad feature consistently the entire 2nd half of the season. just brutal stuff from marc and jeff

  • and phantom too.

i just wouldn't worry about it.

  • well blue devils has a few cool shows. and cadets has a few cool shows and bluecoats has a few cool shows and so does cavies.

    i like them all.

    muahaha

    !!!

  • actually josh, u'd have to win to be compared to the yankees... unless u were talking about the yankees from the last couple of years that make the playoffs but end up blowing it in the end...

u guys are all morons for arguing about a stupid youtube warm up video with absolutely no quality to judge by...

  • wow luis....did anyone ask you?? i dont believe there was any talk about the other blue team here

  • there wasn't... i just had to put my 2 cents in...

  • 2007-The Cadets 97.025 Bluecoats 94.050

    2006-Bluecoats 93.175 The Cadets 93.075

    2005 The Cadets 99.150 Bluecoats 94.450

    2004-The Cadets 95.600 Bluecoats 92.125

    2003 The Cadets 97.100 Bluecoats 90.750

    2002- The Cadets 96.750 Bluecoats 91.500

    2001- The Cadets 97.600 Bluecoats 90.750

    2000-The Cadets 97.650 Bluecoats 84.400

1999- No comparison available due to one corps not making finals, lol.

Its a good thing you marched the one single year you beat the corps by a tenth...

  • ya know you have a point there... cadets score higher than bluecoats on a regular basis.

now if that actually mattered to us, i might be upset, but we are more about pleasing the crowd, which is why we have more fans than you do. we are also about having fun throughout the summer, not going through marine corps boot camp.

  • whatever you say fuck nut...at least our feet are in time

  • ajg3181, if scores or placements don't matter to your corps, then why would they yell so many obscenities at finals retreat when they were announced 7th place?

  • well sopfella, last time i checked it is a competition... and when you get beat by people who arent better than you (regardless of how you feel about scores and whatnot) it pisses you off.

  • So your corps does care about placement. And appearently they're willing to throw out any bit of professionalism or class they might have to express it.

  • But anyways, good job to the Cadets on the silver medal. I loved the show and can't wait to see what's in store for 08.

  • yep i gotta agree with u there brandon. great show but i could do without the nararration. other than that they were amazing.

  • and more fans might favor coats shows the last couple years verses ours....but over the course of history you dont compare. Think of the Cadets as the Yankees and Coats like the Marlins, so dont get all overzealous on a little bit of recent success....now why don't you run along and work on your marching

  • :Cough: :Cough: Beat by Carolina Crown.

    :cough: :cough: 7th place

    cough cough- 7th-12th disc

  • *cough*i marched only in 06

    *cough*we beat you

    *cough*

nonetheless... highest scoring 7th place in history... i would take bluecoats sound and show design over cadets everyday of the week

  • yeah, and these are the musicians you expect the younger crowd to look up to and be inspired by...ajg3181 and Mrmiggs200, grow up and just enjoy the awesome warm up

  • Beautiful... my only wish is that the small ensemble in hymn would be allowed to play with more emotion

  • well my only wish is that they wouldnt be able to play at all.

  • ok so i see how one would think that i was rejected by cadets by one of my previous statements. let me rephrase... i was offered an upper lead spot with the cadets in the 2006 season by gino, but i turned it down due to my need to be able to eat all summer long.

  • aj if your so great, and all this bull. Why were you rejected by cadets, you know if they suck so much how would someone such as yourself be rejected?

  • i actually wasnt rejected... i went with a better corps... in actuality i rejected the cadets.

  • I also agree there is a lot of passion being portrayed by this hornline!! simply incredible

  • so in 2006 when i sent in recorded audition materials to a few corps, and got told by Gino that they were looking for a good lead player... i now see why he told me that.

  • Bluejokes 2007 way to go. Beat by Crown Band.

  • and just who did you march for... pioneer?

  • I like how The Cadets actually play with balls.... its like their sound has strength and passion behind it and isnt just a timid safe sound....sure it might sacrifice a little profiency at times due to volume but DAMN, these kids wail it out there!!!!

  • you should never sacrifice accuracy and proficiency for volume. the end.

  • so do you actually march a corps??

  • not anymore, i aged out in 2006. do you?

  • I aged out 2007

  • congrats. who did you march for?

  • This maroon team for the last couple of years

  • oh im sorry to hear that

  • arrogance is not a good trait to possess.

  • sure it is... when you are actually good

  • why?? i'm not...loudest hornline i ever got to play in

  • what is volume when you dont play in tune half the time, and your accuracy suffers?

  • it doesnt matter because its all about that regiment

  • oh dear god dont get me started on them...

  • and wth is that for holy name shall always be crap???

  • You obviously have never marched in a world class drum corps.

    Love,

The guy who fracked that F#...oops, F natural.

  • actually my good man... i marched in one of the corps' that beat you in 2006, we go by the name the Bluecoats. if it is an F natural, which i believe you that it is, then it was very sharp. that's probably why i had mistaken it for an F# since i'm in iraq and have nothing to reference pitches to.

  • dude. if you need something to reference pitch to, you dont have perfect pitch...

  • ok if you didnt catch the sarcasm from before... let me go ahead and clear it up for you... i dont have perfect pitch.

  • haha sorry

  • If you're in Iraq, then get off Youtube and go fight the war. Stop posting nasty things about your former competitors behind the veil of anonymity that the internet provides.

  • just a little fyi... the war has been over for quite a while now. dont believe everything you hear from the media.

  • so that small ensemble.... yeah.... they ummm... werent even close to being in tune. they pretty much sound like a bag of ass. i think i would chose pioneer over this.

  • i love how at 1:30 a mighty Cadet who never messes up... tries to take up one of the lead parts to a mere F#.... and screws it up...

  • it sounded freaking incredible you loser

    get over it

  • so you are telling me that someone fracking a note sounds great????

  • it was an F.

  • sorry my perfect pitch must have fucked up on me... it does that from time to time

  • then...it's not...perfect...

  • there is no such thing as perfect pitch. absolute pitch, yes.

  • its about time people started knocking cadets and come to realize BD did not deserve 1st place for the 2007 year. I cant wait till cadets come back in 2008 and take it all back.

  • gino cipriani is a beast.... i believe if the cadets didnt have him they would be shit he can get anybody hyped up i dont care if you're over 100 and on your death bed he can get you hyped up

  • I find it very interesting that the warm up consists of the best show music from the 80's. Long live the G bugle!

  • I pesonally liked this years show and at least they have balls to go for the "different" shows. BD had nothing on Cadets this year...BD is over-rated

  • For Holy Name Shall Always Be

  • Yep, indeed...

  • thanks for playing, you're an idiot

  • In brass, we were only .1 behind. And we moved at 215 bpm for 3 minutes in the closer, so considering our demand that's not bad. Maybe if we stood around as much as BD did we could win all the music captions, too.

  • Dude, don't make your corps look bad by dissing BD's movement...The Cadets have already lost enough fans because some people hate narration, no need to have more fans lost because you decide to act like a fool by posting comments like that on these videos...

  • Excuse me but I never said anything negative. Thanks for insulting me though.

  • "Maybe if we stood around as much as BD did we could win all the music captions, too."

I dunno, that seems to be a little negative to me...

  • Not to jump in on anything but it was kind of true

  • u know it is marching band so huked should have every right to diss BD, i know i hated the narration but 215 bpm is tough

  • its not marching band...its drum corps

  • I dont personally think that BD deserved 1st in anything this year thier show seemed way to safe and plus it was thier 50th I think that had something to do with it a little bit.

  • Their show wasn't nearly as entertaining as others. So I agree with you

  • haha that dude looks funny, but that was pretty good

  • If youre talkin about the guy waving his arms, you have no idea. He's a BD alumni screamer/soloist from the 80's and an he was second in command of the BD hornline next to Wayne Downey in the 90's. It was an honor to have him as one of my instructors during my BD career!

  • I love the haters!

I cant help but tear up every time I watch how amazing we were. My first 4 years don't even compare with my 2 years with The Cadets.

The baritones were on Yamaha 51DL. I personally thought it was one of the worst mouthpieces I've ever played on. But everyone has their own style.

For Holy Name Shall Always Be...

  • No words. Should have sent a poet.

  • There is nothing like being a Cadet mellophone. FHNSAB

  • "we hit 118 at rehearsal, the staff had a decibel meter"

    120dB = Rock concert

  • the mellos used karl hammond mouthpieces

  • Nah we used Roger Bobo Symphonics...at least the contras did. And we hold the horn at that angle because we can. enjoy

  • uhmmm, 2 questions. Do these people use maximus mouthpieces? and howcome the tubas are pointing up really high, My band has us at only 10 degrees up but they are like 30

  • I don't think they use maximus MPs, probably LOUD or Karl Hammond mouthpieces. As for the contras, they are up at that angle cuz THEY CAN.

  • The Cadets will go to Maximus when hell freezes over the third time.

  • Trust me, it's all alot more magical standing in the middle of the line.

  • Now that's passion!

  • Their sound is amazing!! I can't even imagine what it would be like to be there in person! Totally mind blowing.

  • Their sound is your first look at the Grand Canyon.

  • we hit 118 at rehearsal, the staff had a decibel meter

  • wow... thats nuts! hahaha. Thats hella loud. I wish I could see and hear it for myself.

  • sick! i had a close guess, lol.

i forget where that lies on the decibel chart, maybe like, jet airplane or something?

    either way, that's goddamn rediculous!

  • decibels? definetly over 100. at least 120 i would think.

  • how many decimals you think they're putting out?

  • whoever said this video was better than the BD one really lied...

  • are marching band is doing chaos theory. its all rock songs and or brass line owns. i play lead trumpet by the way.

  • YEAH MELLOS! YEAH UNIFORMS!

    FHNSAB!

  • Way louder hornline than BD this year. Thanks GINO!!

  • yep and cleaner and more in tune!!!11!1!one!
