@cptsumsar Sounds like you are looking down the Z-axis, which is blue and would look like a blue dot when the 3d transform manipulator is active on the selected item. In this video we are often in front view (looking down the green Y-axis).

I love these videos. Richard's a great trademark, and overall these are the most enjoyable and practically informative tutorials I've seen. Very accessible, and that's saying a lot as "Blender" and "accessible" do not usually go together.
