Islamic prayer took its form from Orthodox prayer (that area was filled with Christians during the Byzantine Empire until the Ottoman Turks conquered the area nearly a millennium after Islam was founded), and Orthodox Christianity expresses the continuity of the faith of the first believers, who were native to the Middle East, not Europe, as Protestants and RC's tend to imagine (I'm both ex-Roman Catholic and ex-Protestant, I know the traditions well). Aramaic is older than Arabic or Hebrew! :)

If you are not an idol-worshipper then why is it acceptable to worship an ahistorical Jesus, you have to question your motives or perhaps even the received morality of that. If it isn't important what form Jesus takes- then you also affirm that the appearance of Jesus in religious context is misleading, distracting and contrary to his spiritual message.

There was also a sizeable input from the Crusaders. It's pretty clear that most Israelis and Syrians today are not in any way fairskinned or fairhaired.
My point is that those who say Jesus' appearance isn't important, -clearly it is if you can't reject the unhistorical Jesus, derived from the Middle Ages
