A question for you. If your parents did not flee to Taiwan in 1949 but instead took refugee in Hong Kong. Could you imagine you now would not be able to speak Cantonese? It's unlikely because you would be brought up in a Cantonese-speaking environment. Then why is that you can't speak "hok-lo" after so many years? Cetrainly it had to do with the KMT's Mandarin policy and then you had no intention to know and love the land and people that fed you. For that you should feel ashamed of yourself.

Language is for communication. People will learn a language if they see the need. But why do you and the DPP people relate language to ideology and think Hoklo equals Taiwanese? Since you " know and love the land and people that fed you", may I ask how many aboriginal languages you speak? Isn't it true that Mandarin is the official language used in Taiwan? But do people respect that? I don't need your respect and please save your ideology and pity for yourself.
There are always "cultrual " differences between different nations(countries)....there are also difference in every aspect between Taiwan and China...Let us be aware of this.....Let us remind each other to LOOK AT CHINA as a different country.. and we will see.. HOW EASY & HARD to get things done. It has nothing to do with color. Taiwan is democratic. USA is democratic. however,Is it easy for Taiwan to "negotiate" with "USA".. the answer "NOPE"
