They consider the killing of an endless wave of easily killable monsters to be repetitive (apparently more so than shooting a bunch of Nazis with a rifle) and they often just don't like the game for visuals and storytelling and character design. Unless you are god of war reviewers will give you a hard time for existing in this particular genre.

The kin of those games is say Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Viewtiful joe, The god of war series of course, Dante's inferno, madworld, and Splatterhouse Yathzee calls those games style fighters which is his way of naming hack and slash games that specialize in making hack and slash really colorful and dramatic. This isn't a style fighter but you can't go wrong with a ten dollar purchase.

I just got Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes for PS3 and love it! I had the original N3 on my xbox. I thought the game would be so cool but it was really boring to me. This one though looks MUCH better. I'm tempted to get it now that i'm starting to get into this genre.

Don't listen too Gamespot or IGN review. GS gave Demon Souls GOTY, and was one of the video game review sites that gave Halo Odst a 9. Enough said. This game kicks ass. I would even go as far to say it better than some of Dynasty Warrior games. They really did a amazing job improving the gaming mechanics for this game. I wish they would of stay with N31 storyline, but I still love it.
I love how this guy has a mind of this own and isn't influenced by IGN/GameSpot reviewers... plus the fact that he doesn't associate a number with the game is something I REALLY like.

I LOVE the Dynasty Warriors series and the Samurai Warriors series they are by far some of the best co op games I have ever played. This game combines the awesome view of Dynasty Warriors and the great fun of burning people with swords and cutting them in half which I also enjoy Mark. Am so gonna buy this game now thanks for this review.

@martialartssucks02 Konami Published it, but Microsoft owns the Ninety Nine Nights IP... so, if it comes out on any other platform, it'll only be PC, not PS3 since it is a Microsoft title. So, the short answer, yes, it's only on 360.

The genre is often referred to as Hack and Slash or, more recently according to Yahtzee, ''Spectacle Fighter''. And yes, the games are quite the guilty pleasure. Keep up your reviews, Mark, you've got a real talent for it.

why have you started doing these reviews of strange japanese games people have never heard of. Im sure a few people like this kind of stuff but that doesnt mean you should stop making reviews for other more "north american" games. like red dead redemption PLZ do a review on that.

It's looks like Chaos Legion...but not as epic. For me, this Game style is SOOOOO OVERUUUUUSEEED!, After Devil May Cry and God Of War, all companies made shitty versions of them. So please...I beg you...please let your neurons flow and create new and brand originals games!
