The name from Romani comes indeed from Rome, because that's where the nomadic gypsy populations arrived first, or that's the association that was made then (the same with Egypt, right?). By Rome it was meant the lands of the Emperor of second Rome, what we now know as the Byzantine Empire.

You understand this was the time when modern day Romanians were simply Vlachs, right?

the violinist was very good (as expected, most virtuostic musicians are violinists/pianists), but the kudos to the clarinetist for being able to keep up... it's really difficult finding a *good* clarinet player who can handle eastern european stuff

It was liberalists that came and as the civilized world began to abolish its slavery, the intelligentsia of the Romanian country began to let free of their slaves.
