  • Don't try this at home cause you can't

  • Rather, don't try this at home because you may not make it back home at all, being swept away.

  • Contender for the Darwin award.

  • 8 lives left!

  • @COZC0M didnt died? Woooow!!

  • WOW! Even the kid knew this was a bad idea!! Grandpa is an idiot.

  • I wouldn't try this in a Ford

  • Avoid rushing water. But Grandkids? ok. Thank God!

  • I just love the nasty remarks that people leave!

  • What an Idiot. Wonder what his grandchildren must have called, if they were forced to see Grandpa getting swept away or even killed.

  • Those fat-a** Ford trucks are messing with natural selection :(

  • to bad you didnt died that would have made a better video

  • "Dont try this at home" Yeah, you know, cause we have a fast flowing rivers that goes through our back yards.

  • @MarkMck1994

Ah WTF, that was exactly what i was thinking!!!! damn you're a month quicker than me! lol

  • @MarkMck1994 Well dont do it if you come across one,

  • I wouldn't have tried that with a vehicle that had that much body.

In my own vehicle (Cab chassis) there is very little surface area for the water to push against, as such it would have been MUCH MUCH safer. Would I have tried it in his vehicle?

depends on the weight of that vehicle, depends on if I was familiar with that crossing or not, depends on if I desperately needed to get to the other side.

All these things may have checked out A-ok with the driver.

  • I tried this at home.

  • i wouldnt even try that in my truck an its 4 tons empty!

  • our truck over 3 tons?

  • I might have tried that in my Jeep, but the speed that water was going i dunno.

    Glad he made it

  • fuck yea ford lol

  • People get killed trying stupid stuff like that every year. This is a what not to do video. I know it can suck getting stuck on the wrong side of a flodded river, but what is worse? Being stuck or being dead?

  • I sure wouldn't want to try that in a smaller, lighter vehicle

  • Built Ford tough

  • ofcourse i wont try this at home, ill try this where ever the next flash flood is.

  • Dont do that in a smart car!

  • that was dumb to do

  • because we all have a river at home =/

  • that water isn't that rough. If the current was a tad stronger that excursion would have been swept away. These things can sweep houses away--why not a truck?

  • it was an Excursion, you expected THAT to get washed away by the water...

  • Lol, I first thought it was an F250 or somshit. But it didn't float away and wondered why. When I saw the back, I realized it was an excursion and that explained it. lol

  • Why not i got the same fucking truck i think i can do it haha

  • This is how stupidity starts. "I have an F250, I can cross anything." They'll be on Youtube being swept away soon.

  • A ford excursion is a very heavy truck, so its no suprise that it can drive thru a flooded creek, but it would be better if it was lifted, like a foot hi or a foot and a half hi lift kit.

  • @undisputedchamp1986 But is risking an expensive vehicle and you life worth it to just get across a flooded road? If their was no current it would be a different matter, but it doesn't take a lot of current to move a large vehicle.

  • only a ford excursion, those things are beastly, too bad they only get 8mpg on a good day :(

  • why is it called dont try this at home, how many people have that in there house?]

  • Only possible in a big heavy beast like that, or a Hummer...

    Still dumb!

  • The power of FORD!!!

  • Ahh he made it, that sucks!!

  • Damn right you don't try this at home, you'll get the rug wet!

  • i cant do this at home because my home is not flooded inside

  • Ive seen better but youve done better then me lol

  • i dont think one can make a flood like that to try that at home.

  • thats write you know fords the fuckin boss

  • Like Forest Gump, STUPID is, is as STUPID does. And it's on video!

  • I skiped my corola over a creak like that once, but I would say dont ever try it too costly.

  • yeah would be a big problem having a flashflood through your home so definately dont try that,, lucky fuckers though wow

  • i dont think its possible to try this at home.

  • that's a good commercial for that car

  • And that's why AZ has the stupid motorist law.

  • fuckin lucky son of a bitch, he should be dead

  • What a dipshit.......

  • i like it!

  • Lucky there car didnt get pulled by the current.

  • sounds like krzykid6969 sucks Ford Dick.Arizona has a Stupid Motorist Law.For this Idiot and his Mama

  • i dont have a river in my home!

  • lucky.

  • You mean not try this at home u sure ??

  • Don't try this at HOME????

Yeah good advice. I was going to try to drive across a washed out road in my kitchen until I saw this video.

  • @Mark2790 Haha. Classic!

  • @Mark2790 HAHAHA!

  • He's lucky that the submerged road had not been washed out

  • would someone be stupid enough to do something like that?!

  • I've seen a number of 'swept away' videos. Unless grampa had a stash of gold bars in the back, he's got to be REAL close to the limit.

  • @geonerd nope no gold bars just built ford tough

  • Only because it's as heavy as a tank.

  • what a fool, that was very close to being swept away!!

  • you said it bofore i could of

  • Those kids almost seen their grandpa die.

  • what the crap man

  • how are supposed to do this at home anyway so no point of it saying dnt try dis @ home

  • Ford Excursion is almost a tank

  • Several cars have been washed away (total losses) by Cave Creek in the recent past ,and two people in the are have lost their lives locally thying to "beat the water."

  • I never realized these were flash floods (I'd never heard of them). They have these in Mexico and my dad goes through them all the time...I never knew it was dangerous because I didn't know any better when I was younger.........drowning is my worst fear. I'm gonna have to have a little talk with my dad about this....

  • IDIOTS

  • Idiots for sure.

  • haha! That looks awesome! i would never do it though!

  • only reson he made it is bcz of the 8000-9000 lbs excusion he was driving, any thing lighter would have washed a way

  • its ok its a ford

  • ye fords suck.

  • oooof verry looky to get away with that x

  • WHAT AN IDIOT !!!!!!!!!!!

  • OHH! I DID THAT ONCE! EXEPT I WAS IN A huge PUDDLE that got to the doors of the car. i was with my uncle in his jeep, and i got sooo muddy! but, all in all, it was fun, and i didnt face fast moving streams like that, just a VERY deep puddle, and the 4-wheeler got stuck in that same puddle! LOL! but, i enjoyed spending time with my family. :)

dont do that again! you could get seriously injured! :)

  • foolish person, could have drowned themselves

  • Thats clever, doing that shit with your kids watching.

  • Can't agree with you ...I spend to much time in the rivers...don't underestimate fast water....he took it to the limit there ...pure luck...nothing more. Can't see how he made it watch the water come up his doors....just for kicks next time your near a fast stream stand facing up current knee deep facing upriver ankles together...or stand sideways then slide something foot wide and flat down the side of your leg to the bottom(simulate water hitting the side of the truck) enjoy your swim :-)

  • Its not the depth it's the speed...killer nic by the way..im still sledding here, fue weeks left yet

  • Lucky man, all snow gone up here.

  • i wont try it at home but i sure will try it outside

  • it may look safe from over here on youtube, but in there it is hell, my cousin is a firefighter and he lost his friend in a flash flood.

  • i think they ment to say, "don't try this anywhere". I dunno anyone who could do this at home...

  • Easy way but not trusty!!!

  • what a retard, that could of ended badly

  • Not worth risking your life! Far out!

  • yeah firefighters like myself have to go out and risk our lives to rescue these type of people every year! Stupid asses

  • In recent years three residents have had their vehicles as they were swept away and required a rescue in this very stream. The vehicles were a total loss. Two people in the area have lost their lives in similar flood conditions.

  • @creekercouncil i've seen a car get takem away by just an inch of water

  • I have forgotten the specifics but it takes less than a foot of water going about twenty miles per hour can sweep you off your feet throwing you into the creek. Various debris, powerfull currents... your screwed.

  • @koensonb1 Yeah it is.

  • If you have to cross deep water crossings a slow controlled speed is key. Looks like they did a pretty good job riding the wake.

  • no prroobblem

  • real kick ass folks

  • Correct!!!

  • how exactly am i meant to try that at home you knob.

  • No wonder why so many people die in flooding each year.

  • lol ive benn to that camp site before it has a river that goes like taht theres a piece of cement ringht under the water its not dangerous at alll a person could walk throuh it

  • I don't think anyone would be able to walk through water thats up to their knees and moving that quickly.

  • your time is good.

  • ya know, most storm related deaths occur when vehicles are pushed off the road by water. It only takes 2-3 feet to take a SUV and wash it away, that was a stupid stunt.

  • "DOPE"

  • That's no way to talk about your mum.

  • They made it but it was really close. I was expecting to see them get knocked off the road by the water.

  • Yea, I don't think I would have tried it myself.

  • I think it is time to build a damn bridge for 200 feet.

  • The local Rural Metro fire & rescue staff tell people not to cross unless it's dry. But this creek crossing runs for months. Those who seek access to homes commonly have to make judgments each time they cross. It's a part of living on the west side of the creek. This is their only (!) vehicular access.

  • The driver was taking a stupid chance. At any moment a surge could come down that stream bed and increase the discharge exponentially.

  • shut the fuck up

  • You shut the fuck up.

  • Im pretty sure if they were to live there they would watch the news to see if it was raining anywhere to know if a surge was going to come..its not like water just poppes out of nowhere they know when it will rise and lower

  • From what I could glean from your poorly-written reply to my comment, you know absolutely nothing about hydrology. A stream surge can happen in a matter of seconds. It is a function of rainfall intensity, the position of a storm cell, the size of a drainage basin, and many other drainage basin characteristics. A television report cannot give you all kinds of information at all times. You must know how to deal with nature first hand, particularly in a place prone to flashflooding.

  • dude ur a dumbass...they fuckin live there!!!! they know how big the drainage basins are and they know when it will rain and they know where the water is coming from im not trying to argue with you!!! im trying to tell you that the people in this video will know if something like a surge will occur FUCK!!! your dumb as fuck

  • In your first comment you wrote "its not like water just pops (up) out of nowhere".

And I am telling you that a surge from storm runoff can occur at anytime during a runoff event such as the one depicted here. It can be very much like water "popping up" out of nowhere. There isn't any way to predict such as event. And I doubt serioulsy that the people in this video have a clue as to the size of their local drainage basin.

  • And thanks for calling me "dumb as fuck". I co-taught the hydrology class at UCLA a few years ago. I teach Earth science now, including basic hydrology.

And go back to school and relearn the proper rules of grammar. When you write a sentence such as "your dumb as fuck", I can only answer "My dumb as fuck what?"

The correct grammatical construction for such a sentence should be

  • im guna talk however the fuck i want atleast i dont talk like a wannabe kno it all fagot. and just so you know teaching does not make you smart that just means youve studies one thing and your good at it...wopdie do i think ill just go on a video and look up synonyms to words and make myself look really smartt...haha get a life i know what im talking about through experience not a book...im lving throught this video right now i lie in iowa look up videos on youtube of the 2008 flood in iowa

  • Hi slipknot:

    1. I never said that I know "everything". What I was writing about were the hydrologic conditions apparent and possible at this road corssing. You were writing about assumptions.

    2. I'm not gay.

    3. "teaching does not make you smart" That's true. Knowledge of any kind requires dedicated study. And humility.

    4. "wopdie do i think ill just go on a video and look up synonyms to words and make myself look really smartt."

If that's what you want to do, then go ahead.

  • "get a life" --- I have a life. Thank you.

"i know what im talking about through experience not a book"

You live in Iowa? The video shows a flood crossing a road in in Arizona. Have you lived in Arizona as well? Desert hydrology is very different than the hydrology encountered in more humid locations such as Iowa.

"im guna talk however the fuck i want"...

I know you are. You can talk - and write - like an eigth grader all you like. It's what you seem to be good at. Nothing more.

  • Oh, I'm sorry I'll start writing gramatically correct, so you understand what I am saying dumb ass. Do my puncuation marks make me look smarter or something? Since you know so much about hydrology and that shit would you inform me on how the climate of Iowa and Arizona are Diffrent? Oh wait, you only know about hydrology. Ok would you inform me on how there water comes down from the sky differently?

  • Well, climate and hydrology are very closely related. Simply put, Arizona is, for the most part, desert country. Iowa has what is known as a humid continental climate. In any given year most locations in AZ receive less than 10inches of precip. In Iowa the total ann. precip is ~3 to 4X that. Also, the storms in AZ can occur (like the 1 in this video) as very intense thunderstorms. Soils in deserts can also be less porous than soils in more humid places like Iowa. Less porous soil = more runoff.

  • As far as writing grammatically correct, it's just much easier to read than "internet" writing. I understand the reason for internet-style writing (limited space, etc.), it's just not easy to read, and, at times, the spelling becomes so far from standard that it is unintelligible.

If you want to learn about hydrology, climate, and other forms of Earth science, pick up a book on Physical Geography from your local library. You will be fascinated.

  • i highly doubt i would be interested in hydrology at all..haha..but i still dont understand if we recieve 3 to 4 times as much rain as arizona why would they still have more runoffs?

  • So you're not interested in hydrology, but you feel it worth your time to comment on this video. Doesn't make sense.

The rain in this video is probably the result of a summer thunderstorm. Perhaps. (There is no date given on the video so I can't be certain that it is a summer thunderstorm.) The intensity of a storm (amount of rainfall per unit of time) is one factor for the production of high runoff amounts.

  • The real difference between desert locations and more humid locations is that the soils in deserts tend to have a layer of caliche beneath the surface which inhibits the infiltration of water to greater depths. If a given soil cannot absorb rainfall, the rainfall becomes runoff.

The floods that have been occuring in Iowa the past week are a result of too much water on the land. One rainstorm is soaked up by the soil, then another storm comes and the soil is already saturated = flooding.

  • o really? see i never knew that water ontop of water was flooding thanks for pointing that out..is that what im going to learn at college?

  • I can tell from the comments left on your channel that you're just a wise ass. When you grow up, you will be killed.

  • cont... should be "You're dumb as fuck" as in "You ARE dumb as fuck".

What the hell grade are you in? Third?

    You can't even spell properly!

Dumb as fuck? Look in the mirror.

  • Yeah nice one.

Teach nature who owns this planet!!!!

    :)

  • Over-confidence and high vehicles accompany disasters. Two years ago a Hummer was washed away in Cave Creek. The owner was rescued. Another old-timer lost his pickup, his horse and his life 10 miles to the west.

  • LOL I do this kinda stuff all the time. You know, your sitting there behind some pussy who won't go through the flooded parts on Hayden in his lifted f250. Half the reason I cross (when it comes to standing water) is because my XJ has a snorkel, so my jeep won't hydrolock. I usually base my decision on how fast the wash is running and it's depth. I wouldn't have attemped anything more than this though.

  • Yeah, just gun it. If you can hit the water at about 50mph, you can cross just about anything, right?

  • dude needs a bridge

  • indeed!

  • It was not my objective to post this video as a comment on any individual. But I do want to point out that in recent years our residents have lost two vehicles crossing this creek and two individuals drowned in nearby towns because they misjudged the power of the creeks. Most were long time residents.

  • For those of you who don't know (like HowesR1 - an obvious moron), the guy driving through the wash has lived on top of that hill for 10 yrs, and built the road through the wash. There have been plenty of times when he HASN'T crossed it.

Too bad there isn't a Darwin Award category related to people who post assinine comments about things they know nothing about to try and make themselves look witty or bright.

  • There's an idiot who passed the training course!!!

Now we all have to wait for him to Darwin himself! Too bad he bred, the gene pool might have benifited from his removal.
