The question here is though what is this young mezzo doing singing such a heavy Verdi opera? She should be doing mostly Mozart and Rossini for a long while. That's if she doesn't want to get a wobble the size of Manhattan in two years.

Is it just me or is this girl's sound slightly reminiscent of Grace Bumbry? I know that Bumbry had a unique sound and will never be matched but, for me, there is a certain ring in the voice which reminds me of Bumbry.

Ha sido maravillosa encontrar estas clases suyas despues de tantos años de su debut en Santiago de Chile en el rol de Carmen bajo la reggia de Ramon Vinay. Recuerdo siempre el tercipelo de su voz, su vestuario espectacular, aquel vestido blanco de macramé para el 4º acto en que era victima del femicido en manos de Pedro la Virgen.

I love how half the people here commenting on this lovely young singer have idols in their favorites that are quite questionable singers... moreso than this young lady for sure. She's very talented and the instruction is fabulous.

I had a lesson with M. Dunn a few years ago in Italy where she classified my lyric tenor voice as baritone. I'm not saying anything against the student here which has a lovely voice, or M. Dunn's musical ideas, but as far as the voice is concerned, I think she doesn't understand how it works and how it should be trained.

In fact you are right I was sounding like a baritone at the time because all my teachers had told me that I was one. That's why it needs someone with a good understanding of the voice to detect if someone is singing with their "own" voice or if they are imitating/manipulating.

I am not performing professionally because I'm not good enough. But I do like Opera and I am very interested in vocal technique and would like to learn how the voice works. Which singers has Mrs Dunn trained?

Mary Dunleavy, Kimilee Bryant, Riki Guy and many more :) She was renowned Metropolitan Opera mezzo soprano in the 60s and 70s who sang most often with Renato Scotto.

The voice is not focused and the upper register is really unfocused. If she would just get the entire voice Focused and it more coneected it would really be spectacular!

I mean the voice is not focused. Not everything is coming together, I went back to watch the video clip and she was late in coming in so her mind is not focused as the voice is not either. It could be just an off day.

Yes, it is sort of out of tune in places, especially around the cadences. She is in school and things can be improved...Her teacher even mentions that she shouldn't spread her vibrato in places where it wobbles over the true note. But, she has a beautiful, warm tone. I really enjoyed hearing her sing.

She transferred to MSM in undergrad. She did start out at a school in Michigan though... I have a couple friends who were in school with her and later went to MSM as well.
