  • The coal industry is a very importaint in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia where do you think you get the power to your house when you turn on that light switch ill bet it comes from a coal powered power station

  • Where do you poop down there?

  • the 3 people the dis liked this video don't know how much much coal mean's to us like this if you think im wright

the next time you see a coal minor takeyour time to say hello and thank you for the job u done

  • I love the songs and videos of the miners in eastern ky.... I've had many family members work and some killed in the coal mines. These take me down memory lane. thanks for sharing

  • A very heart felt "thank you" to all coal miners from all over the USA.... That's not much but it is sincere.

  • Harlan county till I die. Coal miners aren't just hard working men they are hero's that keep this country's lights on.

  • MAN I LOVE COAL, IF U DONT LIKE COAL DONT TURN ON THE LIGHTS. NICE SLIDE SHOW LOVE COAL. BUT NEED A JOB LOL DONT KNOW ANYONE HIRE ATM DO YA LOL

  • Proud Western KY Coal Miner. Fourth Generation miner,( hopefully I will have a son to continue my proud family tradition). This song brings it home because I've got family from Appalacia and Harlan area during the 60's. Any that believes this country can make it without coal needs a reality check.

  • I was born & raised in Harlan & I still live here. I'm proud to say "I'm the daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin & sister-in-law of Haulers, Blaster, Miner, & Stripper.

The ones who don't support them must NOT have family that does this.

  • 1:54 is my uncle david

  • My dad, pappaw and uncle are coal miners and many things have happended to them in the coal mines like once my dad had watched a friend of his die he dis not kill him nor did he cause it but everyone started running and the next thing he new a rock fell on his friend and he had to set there and watch that happen to him so y'all that didn't like this video need to stop being so fucking stubborn and go to hell I love my papaw, dad and uncle for what they do and many more reason but what these coal

  • @Scarface8434 Yeah, it gets brutal. Not many people knows that better then our miners. So many accidents have happened, but they keep pushing on and we push right with them.

  • @SilverBerenznoff23 Yeah i support them with everything in me i have tried to get my dad to stop working in the mines but he wont he said that its bout the only good job you can find around here. So i support him on everything he does just to let him know that he's not alone.

  • the two people that didnt like this video dont know the meaning of hard work

  • I was born in Harlan County, Ky my Dad was a coal miner all of his life. I currently live in Western,KY now, Our underground mines are almost a thing of the past (in W. KY.)

I am very proud of my Dad. You can say what you want but back in the early 60's UMWA did make sure working conditions were better. My Dad worked without a union back when some considered "Union" to be a bad word. And then had the priviledge of working under the union. As different as daylight and dark.

  • Both my papaws were coal miners with black lung. And my Dad worked at the coal mines for 25 years. I'm very proud of them and glad to have been born and raised in Harlan KY. I also lost a very close friend in the mines "Jimmy Lee". I think of him often and still carry a picture of him in my Bible. 18 years ago Jimmy and I drove to the top of Creech mountain (Wallins Creek) late one night and had a prayer meeting. Wow what a time we had in the Lord that night. I'll never forget it.

  • My brother-in-law is a coal miner, my dad drives a coal truck, my brother drives a coal truck. In case you haven't noticed all of their jobs involve one word "COAL"! This is just to show how many people that coal provides jobs for! Coal, It Keeps The Lights On!!

  • I ride down in Harlan county in Ky and they are the nicest people you will ever find. They are the true backbone of this country not the politicians who dont have a clue what it takes. I wish there were more people like them throughout the USA we would be better off as a country then.

  • i am a WV coal miner and this video sends chill's up my back and the hair stands up on my neck, may US coal miners live and prosper forever

  • i think these miners should be paid the kind of money that the dumb ass sports people get paid. they risk their lives every day in these mines. it pisses me off that we have to die in the mines while the overpaid niggers get to spend more on a car or a chain than we make in a year!!

  • @SuperFrankypanky damn it boy do i ever agree with you i'll belive that till i die

  • Lost my husband in the Ky Darby explosion and this song will never mean anything but the truth to me. God love our miners.

  • My husband, Pucker works underground and I am thankful every day I see his dirty face come home. God Bless the coal miners.

  • theres a picture of my brother(travis) 2:55 in to the vid

  • take only what you need

  • Miners, Loggers and Farmers are the back bone of our nation; and the fact Obama doesn't understand, or doesn't care about this means we must change things up a bit... so please vote in 2012 if you feel this way.

  • My whole family has worked in the mines and now my husband works for ICG. I can't thank them enough for what they do. They are greatly appreciated!

  • my dad work in a cold mines for 45 year he work very very hard that all the work you could get down so don,t put harlan down if you take the hillbilly out tno one would in ind ha /ha

  • In very proud to have coal miners in my family and. This song is a song to remind me how lucky i am to have them so when I feel sad I listen to this song to make me happy agin

  • I am from Harlan County, KY and part of my family are working and did work in the mines in Harlan. When I first heard this it made me proud to be from there and have coal miners in my family!

  • @ChristProducer i live in barbourville but im from pineville and proud of it

  • @bajebus44 : Awesome! :)

  • Most people don't have to be asked to do their jobs they don't do it for fun they do it to provide for their familes and my dad pappaw and uncle are coal miners and I love and miss them more than anything in the world even when I'm with them I miss them and love them more everytime I see them but that's because I care bout all them people that risk their lives to keep their familes safe unlike u

  • Mist coal miners don't have to be told to do their jobs they don't do it for fun they do it to provide for their familes my dad pappaw and uncle are coal miners and I miss and love them more than anything in my life even when I'm with them I miss them cuz I love them for what they do

  • you couldn't pay me enough money to do what these guys do.

  • I was working on the same section with Rick the day he died,, he was running a bolt machine when it happened. He was a very good man trying to make a living.. God bless him.

  • i agree coal is our lives.

    O one

    B big

    A ass

    M mistake

    A america

  • 4:17 is my Brother. Him, My dad, My uncles, Cousins, My Pap And my Brother-in-law have spent their lives making a living here in Eastern Kentucky!..All Coal Miners are special People who don't get enough credit!...These men are all Heroes in my eyes. =)

  • this the ending to the show, justified. my grand pa work these coal mine. and it killed him. i love you paw paw.

  • 2:28 brings tears to my eyes

  • Good song. I think the miner's in Harlan, KY should be running the mining business democratically in their area along with fellow miners. They have the intelligence and they are more than capable.

They risk life and limb for their families and for the masses of people who rely on them for energy resources and the companies treat them like expendable robots. It's time for a change.

  • As the wife of an underground miner I say Thanks to all you guys lookin out for each other. The kids I sing and watch vids like these while our miner is 6 inches from hell. This hits close cause he is on 2nd and the chorus reminds us of the hours he keeps. He wakes around 10 and goes underground at 3. We are thankful every night he comes home to us!

  • you can see the face of god over the frunt of the mine

  • the picks at 0:38 and 0:29 in the vid are my uncle. its cool to see him at work. we miss you uncle j.

  • at .31 and .38 in the vid they show my uncle

  • coal miner's daughter here & proud of it

  • aussie coal miner here

  • R.I.P my friiend (Roy Middleton) May Jesus welcome you with open arms.

  • Great song, great pictures I hope people can see the trust and love that these men have for each other. When you work between two rocks that's all a man has. He can try to look out for himself but you have to have buddies watchin' out to let you know to watch out for the things you didn't see. May God bless us, the world or our families don't realize the hard work and the sacrifices that we make for them. minersince1971, I will have worked between two rocks for 40 years this coming May.

  • @minersince1971 God bless you minersince 1971!!!! My brother now works in the coal mines, it takes a brave man to do this line of work. I am from a coal mining town)Hyden, Kentucky) I saw the hard work and the haggarded faces each day, listened to their stories of having to use the buddy system inside the mines. That is a very dangerous profession, many people to not realize this. May God keep you safe.

  • 2:15 pizza lol

  • I'm proud to be from Harlan Ky. My Dad and both my grand fathers were coal miners. We should all honor these hard working Americans.

  • Thanks fopr posting this. My dad and my uncles and grandfathers were all coal miners here in north east England. I would have been a miner too if the awful Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher hadn't waged a war against the miners and closed our great coal industry. Miners here have never been given the respect they deserve. Bless all you guys underground.

  • it's terrible how the coal miners of this country don't get the respect that they so rightfully deserve. If the US Postal service does come out with that coal miner stamp, I would be proud to purchase one.

  • Ciężka i niebezpieczna jest praca górnika. Szanujmy ich trud! Let us remember those who departed!

  • You can never know the cold hard life of a coal miner or their family unless you lived it. I lived it. My father, Earnest Caudill was a coal miner, and it was rough, but we survived it by the Grace of God.

    Mona Caudill

    Harlan County

  • do coal miners use pickaxes anymore? great song

  • ima coal miner at teco if liv inky u kno whre that is. i lost my best friend and brother in the mines last yer and this was his favorite song. thx

  • coal... more than just what most think

  • I'm not a coal miner, I from Western Carolina, my family has farmed the same land for 100 years almost, i think this song speaks for all people who do traditional blue collar work. We (my Dad and I) also run a log'n company, all three(coal mining, log'n and farm'n) are jobs no one wants anymore, Helluva video Arturner07 helluva video

  • I really like your video, well done, sitting on a 8 and a half meter seam in NZ. trying to decide what to do with it. God bless

  • I really like your video! I heard this song at the end of the series Justified!

I love the words to the song and I really love your video..

  • this is a great video. i've worked with bout 90% of the men in it. all of them great men. miss workin withem.

  • @MrBigbadjohn81 are there many coal jobs now Ive never been in a mine but I would like to try it thank you

  • @1972porkchop everyone is allways talking about there being shit loads of jobs in coal , nope i dont think so , there are for exp. people but not new ones so in other words i would not take that rout and waist time like i did if i were you. they dont want to spend money waiting for anyone to learn what to do, same in trucking for the most part

  • It takes a Brave person to go in that hole day in day out. Better person than me. Coal built this country like it or not.

  • This is a very great video, I live on the Harlan/Bell line and mining is in my blood, Dad,Papaw,Uncles,Cousins, and more Papaws Which i will be following in about 2 years im just a sophmore in highschool but i will be following my blood line, this is the job i dream of its hard work but i know it will play off in the long run.

  • Obama is NOT a progressive. Don't let the sugar coating on his health "care" reform legislation fool you. Believe me, you don't want "Obama's America" or Palin's either.

Vote independent. More importantly, don't hope for change. DEMAND what Americans want.

  • GREAT VIDEO!! Born in Whitesburg KY, my ENTIRE family works in the mines currently, or has retired. It makes you an old man way before your time, thanks for such a beautiful video!

  • Beautiful thanks for sharing. My grandfather worked in the mines for 20 years, in eastern Ky. My husband works in Martin County, Ky. I am proud of him and all the other men who are brave enough to go were few men can. I proudly send him to work in his stripes and pray each night for all those who spend their time in the mines.

  • A beautiful tribute. Thank you for sharing it.

  • Prayin for the family's over there in Raliegh. We're thinkin about ya alot over here in Lawrence co. KY.

  • Thank you for posting this.....good tribute.

  • id love to get into one of the new strip pits going up in Ohio county. not a whole lot of underground mines out here in western KY. its hard to get a job in the mines around here though, once a mine opens they are flooded with applications, the only way in is to know people.

i just wish they had built the ThoroughBread Plant, that would have been a whole lot of jobs, not just in the plant but also from the increased mining.

  • i lived in harlan 4 a long time and my dad workd in the coal mines 4 a long time now my bother works in the coal mines now i did work in them now a at abel to i wish go back in them and work

  • If anyone should have/come across ANY pics or info about the THACKER family please share . They worked in the coal mines , i had an uncle that was beheaded in a cave in . my grandma went in the mines as a small child to pick up coal . I would love to find a pic of her .her name was Nina may Thacker.

  • @1987bmansfield

The Thacker family from Kentucky and West Virginia is a large family. From old Virginia to Kentucky to West Virginia. Several branches to that family now. My father was killed in the mines, roof fall. If you try to find Thacker family members by just who was killed in the mines you will be chasing a lot of Thacker family lines.

  • Thank you all for supporting coal.. Coal is our lives.. I just want to know one thing

    C can

    O obamas

    A america

    L last

    I dont think so...

  • @tasha2tashie unfortunately Obama and his drones are trying to destroy the mines and the miners.bless you all and just remember most of us are behind you 100%.

  • @tasha2tashie what does obama have to do with this video? quit making everything politics and blaming everything on one man...its the american gov. as a whole not obama...get real lady..the politics were corrupt before obama came into office

  • @tasha2tashie reply if you agree with NObama

  • it is awsome to have brave rednecks like us to go in that hole in the side of a moutain a mines an our daddys and papaws uncles any one u love to risk there lives every day u coal miners deserve a hand u got the hole moutain on the top of ur heads my dad is a coal miner he works for joe bennet at the c2 mines in dione and my papaw worked for ever in the coal mines it is a scary thought about it but we are tough enough to handle it just keep the coal miners in your prayers they need it

  • Big coal has been makin' promises for prosperity for 100 years and West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky is about as poor as it gets as far as standard of living, am I wrong?

  • @larob24 If they stopped mining, where would they be? They'd be even poorer - as poor as the areas in appalachia where there is no mining. If you think think there's no difference between making $50+K as a miner and doing odd jobs off and on and trying to support a family doing odd jobs in a dead area, re-examine. The planned destruction of the coal industry is going to make the poor poorer. A shame now that in terms of relative safety, the miners have better rights and safety than ever before.

  • I probably shouldn't even be comenting,I don't even live in coal country and I use my share of energy.

  • @larob24 we're doin just fine.

  • this is savanah i love that video my dad was in there but he had to get out about what happened in the war..

  • i come from england and our coal is still there but we get it from bloody poland

  • Obama wants coal done away with which is like i think 75% of our energy in the US. My dad works at ICG in Hazard Ky. We depend on coal for survival in Ky and Virginia remember to always support the coal industry. Global warming is crap so don't let them screw us out of a great industry!

  • i work for massey at sydney and have friends at icg.damn right bout global warming it aint nothing but a scam

  • yeah @countryboy890 global warming is a scam to make money and create a global governance. Kinda sounds like something i have read in a book before, oh the bible yeah where the world is destroyed by a global government. But yeah you're correct my friend.

  • You are so right, my husband also works for ICG in Hazard.Eastern Kentucky might as well die, because that is just what is going to happen if Obama has his way. Wake up America he is a Communist! That is his change for America that he promised. You won't have a say in anything that happens in your life if he gets his way!

  • My grandfather was a miner at Cabin Creek WV during the mine wars there. My great grandfather went back to check a shot that didn't go off and lost his life. I have had a lot of shitty jobs but in those jobs I met the best men I ever worked with. I never mined but I guess it's safe to say it's a shitty job. I bet men of men are in those mines working hard, kidding around and keeping the new guys safe. I'd just like to say thanks to all who are mining and all those before them.

  • Born and raised Boone county WV. Dad moved us to keep me from the mines then I moved back went to work in mines for 3years. I still love this videos miss it a little. I miss all my mine buddies and the ones past on. God bless all you others keep it safe and get in the coal

  • booth energy sucks....bunch of cut throats i loved workin there in the matrix but you cant trust your soul called buddies

  • my dads from letcher county.. doesnt talk about home too much but im proud of having mining in my blood. it takes a tough breed to do that.. and apparently my grandfather was one tough guy

  • so long as it ain't MTR

  • Im a WV coal miner. Heres to the brotherhood of coal. Stay safe and run coal.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah its in your blood alright both my grand dads, my dad, my uncles and cousins work in the mines and now im workin

  • same here man.thats the way it is and hopefully stays

  • Like the video, ive been minin for 4 years now fallowing my father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great grandfather. They werent liein when they said its in your blood

  • This is great, both my grandpa's were miners in Harlan. One an electrician and the other a ran a continuous miner. Many family members worked the mines. Great tribute to all their hard work.

  • My family is from Harlan and My family members were coal miners!

  • Gold Price @ $1043/Oz!!!!!!!!!! Good time to be an underground Aussie hardrock miner

  • Im from Eastern Ky, i love going under with my crew, they are like brothers to me. i always pray before we go under that all of us will come back out to our families. I love the job, God Bless All Who Works In The Mines. it is a hard job, but i love doing it. Love The Video.. God Bless, Thanks for the Support

  • I <333 coal miners. I wanna marry a coal miner someday, so attractive :)

  • I'm from Eastern KY, about all my family works in the mines. I love it down here. This vid give me chills. Coal is what makes this country run, and its because of these fine men we just witnessed. Thanks miners, and to all those who support them. God Bless you all.

  • ive been to almost all of those mines with papaw. this vid gives me chills. god bless coal miners!!!

  • Do a search for leroymoorejr on youtube and check out Coal Mining In Appalachia. Coal supplies 50% of all power generated in the U.S.A. Obama is currently trying to shut all coal power plants down.

If this happens, half of America will literally freeze in the dark! Also tens of thousands of miners, and hundreds of thousands of coal dependant companies and persons will be free of employment.

So. Please check out my video by searching leroymoorejr and view Mining In Appalachia.

  • yeah they want to shut us down in canada too... they tell us that yes while you might be out of a job, there will be "green jobs" to replace them. i told my member of parliment i make 6 figures a year mining coal, does a green job pay that well? he never had an answer for me. coal may not be the best answer... but right now its the only answer if we want to keep the lights on...

  • greatings from Silesia in Poland

  • Great video and a great song (surprising in that he's a pop country star).

  • a pop country singer who is from the coal fields of west by god, guarantee his daddy and daddy before him dug coal.

  • I have been a underground coal miner for 9 years I have run buggies and pinners It is a hard job but I love my job. But everyday before i go threw the drift mouth I pray to myself for me and all other miner to come back out to there family. Its not just a job its a way of life. GOD BLESS ALL MINERS. And for all the people who say its a dirty energy turn your damn computer OFF.

  • i was a miner for 7 months before i got layed off i loved runnin that shuttle and scoop but now i cant git on nowhere

  • I had a long drawnout discussion with a guy on this subject, he said miners chose a substandard life, and it was a choice. I argued that it wasn't just a job to the people who did it, it became a way of life. My family is from eastern ky, but ive never been there. they all worked mines, and many did die down there. I want to go see what it's like, maybe get some land. I would work the mine just to say i was beside all of you men. Thanks for your iron will, and contribution.

  • i was going to go to the mines if i didnt get the job i git now, i respect miners and any man that is willing to go and face a job like that to feed his family and pay the bills, so his family has a roof over they're head, food in their bellys, and clothes on their back. Thank you

  • I'm a detention officer and I thought my job was tough; it ain't nothing compared to what these guys in the mines do. You guys are true working class heroes. God bless you and please stay safe!

  • My Grandfather grew up working those mines and making moonshine. I still have a lot of family in Harlan, but don't get to see them often. I know that several of my family members died of Black Lung disease from those mines. We really need to give them the respect they deserve. It is a thankless Job.

  • Love yer video!!!...That one roof bolter is perdy cute!!!...lol

  • my father worked in an underground coal mine for 42 years,,, God Bless u Daddy, for all the hard work you did for your family

  • Wouldn't be electricity to do ANYTHING without our coal miners. Thank you men!

  • coal miners heroes all thanks for posting amazing men

    buzz

  • im from harlan ky, and this shit hits hard. you got people working three days straight, half addicted to cocaone jus to stay awake and stay off food stamps. its harsh.

  • My uncle lost his life in a Harlan Co Coal Mines. My dad was disabled when a rock fell on his back. My husband worked in Harlan Co mines for 11 yrs until we moved to Fl. I lost schoolmates to the mines and relatives. To me, every miner is a hero. The possibilities of disaster they face every work shift, and the environment in which they work makes them a whole different breed of men. God bless em all and their especially their wives.

  • Thanks for the kind words....

  • As a former Harlanian,so well spoken and I hope Fla has been a much better life and surely so!....Although the beauty of those mountains and the people there cannot be matched in my book!...I left also, but deep down that's always home!

  • @iprazhm I am sorry for your loss iprazhm, I am from Hyden, Kentucky where many coal miners dwell. We lost 38 miners at one time in a terrible mining cave in years ago. It was unforgetable, many country singers came to bring aid to the miners families. You are so correct in saying each coal miner is a hero, To me it takes a mighty man to choose that line of work. God bless the coal miners and their families.

  • i know how it is my brother just moved from floirda to kentucky he just past his test for the mines my mom lives in kentucky

  • i work at a surface mine.. its a hell of alot different

  • you wud never leave harlan alive.

  • i would love to be a coal miner

  • SpartonDan its a hard life, but its not a bad one.

  • I have never been in coal that big,i've been crawling on my belly in 22-24 inch blue gem for the last 20 yrs. Be nice to sit upright and eat lunch.

  • Comment removed

  • The coal miner is to be respected, but not certain coal companies that want to blow the mountaintops off! Screw them bitch coal companies and go back to conventional coal mining.

    And for the record..

This song mentioned coal as a 'mineral'

Coal is not a mineral by geologic standards.

    From West Virginia University, Morgantown

  • Superb - Gene

  • Fine song!

    Greetings from miners of Russia!
