Cyclops really is the heart and soul of the X-Men, sadly Wolverine is the poster boy. If there were no Cyclops, the X-Men would have never coalesced...however, as a film character he is a tough sell. I think the movie would have been better served if they had given him more of a backstory.

I'm not saying who is better than the other, but when you think about it, in terms of drawing power Wolverine beats out Cyclops. Wolverine is better known, thus the joke that Cyclops couldn't carry his own movie. It's a crappy action figure film, it's not worth the anger.
