It's not really an attempt to teach via internet instead of in person. It is however designed to get people motivated. In all these lessons on youtube we're just scratching the surface. It really can go on forever.
That was awesome! I have been learning different types of blues progressions strumming and picking and soloing. That sound you made like SRV helped out a lot. It explained something I was missing..thanks alot much appreciated...thanks for posting this...sweet....I love da blues :D
Thanks for the lesson John, I just started getting into the blues as I started playing with my high schools jazz band, its really cool and misunderstood with all the "metal" crap nowadays. This stuff is what guitar was made for. Anyway, your lessons really do some good and ill try to incorporate them into my solos. Catch ya later
I'm very weak at Django. Since I don't listen to his music I have no feel for it. It reminds me of gangsters and old criminal types and I can't shake that impression for some reason. There's great Django players these days and it seems like there's a huge revival with festivals and all. Try and find out who's who in that medium.....John
I do agree , Django does seem like a name associated with the wrong side of the law lol ...all the same thank you for putting up lessons and showing your style ...i do think you have a gift for explaining things precisely , i loved your videos on the modes especially .....thank you thank you thank you
Listening you is a joyfull experience. In most of the comments I can see the same thing: your style is the key of your success! Don't worry, my guitar is better than my english. Thank you,
to all those people who dont know why they cant sound exactley like who they wanna sound like, the reason you cant sound like somebody else is cause of your hands. you can't sound like B.B. cause you ain't B.B., and you cant sound like Eddie VH cause you aint Eddie.
John I totally love your lessons and style, I always used to think I had to pick everything, now I am really starting to see that using your fingers gives a beautiful blues tone and sound. I was wondering if you are familiar with Lightin' Hopkins style of blues, it seems along the same lines as these lessons. I was hoping you might give a few lessons on his finger style with the shuffle blues approach. Keep up the great lessons, you are helping so much.
Yes to Lightin' Hopkins. I perform "High Price Blues" a tune written by him. His style is all fingers. Once you get a good tone from the guitar even the simple slow stuff sounds good. Thanks for your comment.........John
keep on sharing god's gift to you... btw, i really like that kind of guitar... that's exactly my dream guitar... the color, style, and the way it sound... i hope someday i could make a guitar sound the way you do... cheers :)
Had one for years. Great sound. Great lessons as well. Could have used these when I was young and just starting out. Mel Bay was not exactly into rock :)
Great guitar for playing Jazz. I wish I still had mine. Years ago I met Lenny Breau in Ottawa and watched for hours while he played my Gibson. The "Claw", Gerry Reed, was one of his fav. I almost quit playing after that one :)
great video, i mean the song,in the last part. Realy it's a big step for me like a begginer, thanks man !!!

Is your guitar a Gibson ES 175 D ?
Had one for years. Great sound. Great lessons as well. Could have used these when I was young and just starting out. Mel Bay was not exactly into rock :)
Drachard101 3 years ago
It a ES 175. I don't think it has a D. My favorite no doubt....Thanks for the comment.JH

The D just meant it had two humbucking pick-ups.
