The US version is definitely better overall. I've seen both and I stand firm behind my opinion. I will admit, the US version does rip off or rehash a good bit from the UK version but they only improve upon it.
The UK one will always be the best in my opinion. The US version just feels like a huge ripoff. Just not to Americans because a lot of the viewers didn't know a UK version existed or came first.
@xjx2 I knew about it. I have the first "series" on DVD. The US version of the Office is a huge disappointment. When I heard they were looking for a replacement for Steve Carrell's character, I was really hoping Ricky Gervais would step in. But noooooo.... of course that wouldn't happen.
@CaptainCocaine Which is why I said a lot of the viewers :) I doubt Ricky Gervais would ever step in. British comedy and American comedy differs quite a bit, Ricky only seems to do things that he writes + directs himself and he's very busy with projects at the moment. He also said he would never do another series. He ended it early so he would not outstay the the welcome.
@rigs345 I never said the show was bad. I said the US office missed the mark, badly. Which it did. You said it yourself, they're very different shows. The humour style, which made Office unique is not followed through on the American show. This means that you could have called the U.S office anything you please since it has no relation to the UK version.
I haven't seen the UK one (I'm not American, I live in Sweden so this is non bias shit) but give US office a chance, it's funny as hell. I'm on season 7 right now and as soon as I finish it I'll start watching the UK version. I think both are great!
They are both amazing in their own right. For one, you can't beat the original quirkiness and hilarity of the UK one and at the same time the US one took a lot of guts and turned out to be hysterically awkward. Both are great and very endearing in my opinion.
I love both U.S and U.K Comedy. I think a classic example is "Get Him to the Greek". Though it is an American film I think Russell Brand brings a bit of the U.K to the film, and he is HILARIOUS! I'm watching Sean of the Dead right now btw.
The UK version is so much better for so many reasons. If you can't understand why then it's really hard to explain to someone. But it just hits so many more notes.
What's shit about the british version of the office is that there are 12 episodes and a couple of christmas specials. That is what is wrong with british tv. My absolute frustration with the inbetweeners, misfits, and outnumbered is that there are only 6 episodes in each series. But to be fair, watching tv in america makes me want to kill myself purely due to adverts.
And the Office US is pure quality!!!!!! I have yet to watch an episode of the US office that I haven't enjoyed. How come they can produce over 100 episodes, each one brilliant in their own right, and we well can't. We probably can to be fair, we just don't, which is why british TV drives me mad, have to resort to watching repeats constantly on E4.
@chrisdooley12 Have you ever even watched the show. It's not shit, I think you'll find every other person who has watched will agree that it's quite funny. Also this show is still overseen by Ricky Gervais and Stephan Merchant, so I'd hardly call it american still. It's hilarious. Nothing can describe the moment of pure shock and joy when Mike is dating Pam's mom, and he says he's going to date her harder.
Ricky gervais helped direct the USA version, the office is his baby, his creation, so USA should stop slagging off the british version. Look i thank America for all the television they have given us, all the films they have made, that make us laugh, cry and scream, but there are some things in TV that we do better. The USA cast all look like there acting, the UK cast look like there not. Simple.
-warning: not related to video- wtf are the british teaching their children america is a bad guy. i mean why is there so much hate against us. we didnt do anything except the revolutionary war. on psn and xbox live the people from britian are mean. i mean im not saying all are but the ones i encounter are. i mean god. really?
@bulbajackel1 the problem is mate it the same on the other end, online you get a lot of american 12 year olds shouting and screaming down the mic or commenting on vids that england is shit when they have no idea what its like here. personally i agree with you there shouldn't be hate between two people because they are from dif places. at the end of the day its just a bunch of immature people shouting different untrue stereotypes and sticking to them even if proved wrong
@wyskasses Because people get angry when there is always american remakes of english shows. It's not like it's in another fucking language. You can understand it. When it's a shitty gamesow or something no-one cares. That even works both ways, But when you cant be arsed writing your own drama then use the same script... It just never works because it's not your Idea. I cant explain it properly as I'll end up ranting
winner = UK :) The whole reason behind him dancing is so much better aswell, Brent seems out the lime light when his boss is dancing and everyone is clapping and enjoying it. He felt he needed to out do him, all he did was make himself look a complete twa@T LOL
If the competition is for which is the most hilarious, based on the FACTORS of which makes The Office series funny which are: awkward everything.. things they say, actions, pauses, which are all social uncomfortable moments. Then there is nothing that anyone would say that would end the debate. This is because people from the UK and people from the America all experience different social factors such as slang and just the general fucking accent. SO, lets put the differences aside.. jeezus
In my opinion the BBC Office is FAR superior. It isn't even a contest. I wouldn't say British TV comedy is better because there are a lot of excellent comedies on American TV right now. Almost certainly more that in the UK. As for dramas I think American shows are way better. Comedies cost less money, but dramas need American budgets.
@chrisdooley12 i'm scottish and i would say the american one is a bit better. the british one almost too realistic, to a fault which makes it depressing at times. anyway atm british comedy is atrocious, particularly as the likes of "miranda" are currently winning awards.
...with things such as life on mars and doctors who yet I can still be gripped by Lost or Dexter. So in the end I call a draw: actually, who's even competing? :)
I'm from the UK and I think Brent wins it here, yet I think the Us office has so many brilliant moments it dwarfs the Uk's. I think America win with comedy in general with things like the Office US and Arrested Development, yet I still own the English 'Royle Family' and Top Gear over here makes me laugh more than anything. I think British are best at drama however, so
@AttemptedDrama british drama the best? better than the sopranos, mad men, breaking bad, house, the wire, 24, the west wing, deadwood, six feet under, ect? the only recent british drama which is in this caliber is life on mars. however, i would also agree brent won this one although i think michael scott is brilliant as well.
I have to admit america's sense of humor is more funnier to me then britains. Britains "smart" and "classy" sense of humor is getting old. Americas is way more funnier to me.
I think michael Scott is a better and funnier boss. I've watched many episodes of UK office and us office and Michael Scott has a certain edge to him that David Brent doesn't. To me, Michael scott makes me laugh ALOT more. Idk about you though. Maybe it's my sense of humor. And I'm British, its weird. US office is better than UK office for me. The us characters live who they portray in the show, they don't just act it. For example, Dwight in the US version.
@metallica929: Disagree strongly. Ricky Gervais > Steve Carell. And I believe no one can touch David Brent as far as realism and how natural he's played. This dance excerpt is a perfect example. Ricky looked like he was honestly having fun. Steve looked..... just... weird.
@itskirbyfgts I remember when I first watched the US version of the office 3 years ago. I couldn't stop laughing. I never knew there was a UK version that it was based on. So after finishing all seasons of the US show, I decided to give the UK version a shot. I won't say it isn't funny, but my laughter wasn't strong enough to wake my brother up at 2 in the morning. I personally think the weirder the funnier.
It just feels like Steve Carell is playing the character of Michael Scott whereas Ricky Gervais IS David Brent. He just seems more genuine, that he actually thinks his moves are cool
Ricky's first jump into the dance position, the pointing and grunting, the effort he puts into every move and the sheer lack of embarrassment crushes Steve's dance. Biting of the lip and even the little dance he does to get in the rhythm is amazing. Ricky's feels real.
Yeah, Carell won that. I never saw Brent dance before, and I really liked the finger pointing move, but I watched that episode of Michael dancing over like a bazillgillion times JUST for that scene.
The way he looks when he says "Alright..OKAY..dancing!" is to, no three-funny!
The music puts Carell at a disadvantage...he was hilarious with the real audio. Gervais seems funnier because he is fat, but Carell definitely put in more effort and creativity.
Btw, it's a cultural difference people, that's all. So stop arguing about miniscule crap and just be happy that we all enjoy The Office. I mean we could be arguing about Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga if you really want to waste each other's time.
Steve Carell is way better. He gets on the ground and really flubs up the worm by staying stiff as a board lol. He goes into his explanation of dancing: "a primal art form used in ancient times to express yourself with the body!" Lol. Plus that bizarre music in the episode starts playing right when he starts dancing and makes it that much more hilarious and strange.
us office is better and more entertaining, uk office is boring as shit, yes the humour may be "smarter" but if you pride yourself on getting those jokes and just watch a show for its complex(if you want to call it that) comedy rather than entertainment, then thats just sad, your obviously an insecure piece of shit
@YouAreHereification i didnt say it was shit, it said it was boring as shit. and yes i am aware it won awards, but if you look it up the office won alot more awards, including best comedy. steve carell won awards for his performance, he is a good actor and is in a ton of movies. i do think ricky gervais is funny, but lets be honest his movies are kinds shit
@bboooobbyy see this is exactly what im talking about, there is no such thing as a higher version of comedy, just because you don't like the US office, doesnt mean ur stupid if you watch it and it appeals to stupid people, your just an idiot, its all based on opinion and taste. i like the us office much better, i hate the uk office, but i dont think it of a lower comedy
@halobeatscod I suppose The Office doesn't appeal to most Americans because they have the attention span of a goldfish. The Office (US) appeals to them because it has non-stop hijinks and zany characters to keep you entertained every couple seconds. Too each his own.
@bboooobbyy well isnt that the purpose of a TV show? to keep you entertained and interested? thats what i percieve it as, if i watch a show that doesnt keep me entertained, that means its not in my taste, and i dont find it entertaining which is fine, but it doesnt mean i have the attention span of a goldfish. see thats where that logic fails, because i could say the same thing about you it works both ways. its all personal preference, intelligence has nothing to do with it.
@halobeatscod As a stand-alone concept The Office (US) is not terrible. It's watchable and I laugh once or twice on the odd occasion that i actually watch it. The UK Office, however, is on a whole other level. The acting is more natural, the situations are more believable and so the humour is much more organic. If you like superficial humour, and a lot of folks do, thats fine by me. However, suggesting that any person who likes The Office is a an "insecure piece of shit" is just ignorant
@bboooobbyy that may be true but i personally dont laugh when i watch the UK office, but when i watch the US office, i cant keep a straight face. it all depends on what you like, but one show isnt better than the other, thats all im trying to say.
@bboooobbyy and i never said anyone who watches the uk office is an insecure piece of shit, if you go back and read the comment, i said that someone who prides themselves on watching a show like the UK office because its "smarter", and says the US office is for stupid people, obviously say that because they need to feel better about themselves and are too immature to realize its all about personal preference. therefore they are "insecure pieces of shit"
@aralia69 I don't know why Ricky said that, the HFPA said that they never asked him to come back for a third year. HE'S A LIAR! haha I love Ricky though. He's the best!
I understand the expression, which is actually "i couldn't care less"
Tis you Americans who have changed the wording (and therefore, the meaning) of the phrase, have you ever thought to your self how "I could care less" even makes any sense? Couldn't care less implies you do not care even the slightest bit, Could care less implies you already care quite a bit.
@DesertEagle404 you know, as many times as i think about it, you're actually right. in the typical american fashion, we tend to shorten words and sentences(even remove syllables)in order to make it easier to say. our vocabulary and communication skills really aren't anything to be proud of anymore. in fact, I (an American) am actually quite ashamed
Tis you dumbass, that does not comprehend sarcasm. 'I could care less', 'I couldn't care less', 'I could give a shit', 'I don't give 2 shits', 'Who gives a shit?'. Go c
@kilox10001 STFU FAT ASS? We found your country and your pathetic country attempts to speak our language so stfu ass hole. Monty python is old you can't look at that and say that is just british humour. I find your shitty disney channel shows and sitcoms unfunny. Oh and btw *our not are idiot.
as much as i'm a HUGE steve carell can i HAVE to say ricky gervais beat him by a landslide, mostly because of the pointing and in the end he makes a grumble noise when he points at the camera, and i was watching late at night and heard it and was hysterical, I think I watched the david brent dance about 50 times after discovering the noises haha
@fluffino I think it's the way he takes it so seriously coupled with the expression on his face that does it. I couldnt breath with laughter when I first saw this.
The US version is definitely better overall. I've seen both and I stand firm behind my opinion. I will admit, the US version does rip off or rehash a good bit from the UK version but they only improve upon it.

And who the hell prefers halo to cod?!
53104 11 months ago
Hahaha that's gotta be the stupidest thing I've ever read on the Internet! UK office ftw!
53104 11 months ago
us office is better and more entertaining, uk office is boring as shit, yes the humour may be "smarter" but if you pride yourself on getting those jokes and just watch a show for its complex(if you want to call it that) comedy rather than entertainment, then thats just sad, your obviously an insecure piece of shit
halobeatscod 11 months ago
@halobeatscod UK office is shit? Thats why they won multiple awards then? including 2 golden globes?
YouAreHereification 11 months ago
@YouAreHereification i didnt say it was shit, it said it was boring as shit. and yes i am aware it won awards, but if you look it up the office won alot more awards, including best comedy. steve carell won awards for his performance, he is a good actor and is in a ton of movies. i do think ricky gervais is funny, but lets be honest his movies are kinds shit
halobeatscod 11 months ago
@halobeatscod US office is slapstick, stupid comedy and thats why it appeals to so many people. It's an insult to the original.
bboooobbyy 11 months ago
@bboooobbyy see this is exactly what im talking about, there is no such thing as a higher version of comedy, just because you don't like the US office, doesnt mean ur stupid if you watch it and it appeals to stupid people, your just an idiot, its all based on opinion and taste. i like the us office much better, i hate the uk office, but i dont think it of a lower comedy
halobeatscod 11 months ago
@halobeatscod I suppose The Office doesn't appeal to most Americans because they have the attention span of a goldfish. The Office (US) appeals to them because it has non-stop hijinks and zany characters to keep you entertained every couple seconds. Too each his own.
bboooobbyy 11 months ago
@bboooobbyy well isnt that the purpose of a TV show? to keep you entertained and interested? thats what i percieve it as, if i watch a show that doesnt keep me entertained, that means its not in my taste, and i dont find it entertaining which is fine, but it doesnt mean i have the attention span of a goldfish. see thats where that logic fails, because i could say the same thing about you it works both ways. its all personal preference, intelligence has nothing to do with it.
btw im Canadian
halobeatscod 11 months ago
@halobeatscod As a stand-alone concept The Office (US) is not terrible. It's watchable and I laugh once or twice on the odd occasion that i actually watch it. The UK Office, however, is on a whole other level. The acting is more natural, the situations are more believable and so the humour is much more organic. If you like superficial humour, and a lot of folks do, thats fine by me. However, suggesting that any person who likes The Office is a an "insecure piece of shit" is just ignorant
bboooobbyy 11 months ago
@bboooobbyy that may be true but i personally dont laugh when i watch the UK office, but when i watch the US office, i cant keep a straight face. it all depends on what you like, but one show isnt better than the other, thats all im trying to say.
halobeatscod 11 months ago
@bboooobbyy and i never said anyone who watches the uk office is an insecure piece of shit, if you go back and read the comment, i said that someone who prides themselves on watching a show like the UK office because its "smarter", and says the US office is for stupid people, obviously say that because they need to feel better about themselves and are too immature to realize its all about personal preference. therefore they are "insecure pieces of shit"

americans have the worst comedy's and comedians, if it's a blindingly obvious joke 99% of Americans won't get it

who cars about the dance everybody knows us office is the funniest
albokk 11 months ago
-Carrell just tries to dance badly.
-Gervais tries to look like a guy who dances badly but he believes he can dance.
That's why Gervais is so much funnnier. He always has that subtle side on his acting.

Nobody does humour like the Brits. Which is why gervais has been invited back to host the golden globes for a third year.

@aralia69 I don't know why Ricky said that, the HFPA said that they never asked him to come back for a third year. HE'S A LIAR! haha I love Ricky though. He's the best!

@kilox10001

@DesertEagle404 true true, though our version makes sense as well because weve thrown a little tad of sarcasm into it

@DesertEagle404 David Mitchell does a great soapbox rant on that very point.
comanchio1976 11 months ago
@DesertEagle404 you know, as many times as i think about it, you're actually right. in the typical american fashion, we tend to shorten words and sentences(even remove syllables)in order to make it easier to say. our vocabulary and communication skills really aren't anything to be proud of anymore. in fact, I (an American) am actually quite ashamed

as much as i'm a HUGE steve carell can i HAVE to say ricky gervais beat him by a landslide, mostly because of the pointing and in the end he makes a grumble noise when he points at the camera, and i was watching late at night and heard it and was hysterical, I think I watched the david brent dance about 50 times after discovering the noises haha
