Great music, remember just hitting 70 and buying the flying mount for the very first time, then raiding karazhan etc, then doing heroics... good times.
I hated this zone. All the lvl 70s just ganking while waiting for the raid to star. Of course you did the exact same thing once you hit 70 but god damn it, pain in the ass nonetheless xD.
Imagine u r travelling in space for unimaginable time and distance and then u see outland - the weird not logical flying in space lands which to me have the best atmosphere in a game... I can't remember another game like this which has better atmosphere, can u?
Those voices all we hear in my opinion are Akama's voices !
The sorrows of Akama ! How Their once beautiful land had turned into The most demonic...diseased...torn apart...plagued...blighted...corrupted... place in warcraft universe
the first time the corruption came from the Fel orcs and MAGTHERIDON - The lord of outland
but then Illidan came replaced Magtheridon and his slaves with Akama's help and when Illidan become the lord of outland he destroyed it one more time i feel sorry for Akama!
Wonderful through and through, but the last 30 seconds (9:20 to the end) is what really leaves a mark for me. After the eerie calm comes the heavy, oppressive atmosphere....and when the creepy warbling and the heartbeat drums come back in at the end....it's really something else.
If there was ever a musical moment that captured "the madness of the betrayer," I feel like those 30 seconds must be it. Truly spectacular.
Makes me think of the remains of Earth after WW3 ;P, or mass polution, or alien invasion, or whatever. Just imagine being on a desolate world that was once great, listening to this *Cough* Mars *Cough*
@thugtastic Mars... so much agree. I honestly believe that there was an ancient civilization that lived there a long, long time ago, but there was a terrible war, so we fled to earth and terraformed it.
one thing you gotta say about blizzard.. they make some pretty weird gameplay decisions sometimes, but they always know how to make the perfect mood music.
I love the voices, they sound like Broken Ones. Its really dark, haunting and thick with darkness and despair. I love this music, and the brooding, haunted landscape of Shadowmoon Valley, the infernal rain seen on the sky in the background...pure and simple awesome.
how can people complain about blizzards efforts? i think they forget the good stuff and remember only the bad. there was a mountin in this zone that when you flew over it had an excellent bit of music cant remeber what its called tho
@SirClarencetheCruel i think so the big one sort of in the middle i used to sit up there and listen to it for a moment in fact i might log on and go check it now :)
well, I still have the whole soundtrack ripped somewhere on my external, By now, it must be full 24 to 48 hours of ambient music, and if you cut out all combat music and small orchestral "stingers" you could waste yourself for a full day in nice moody stuff.
BTW check out the Starcraft 2 Music as well, not the official OST, but rip it, you will definitely find something to your liking
Crap, also, there is a very sad piece of composition when you enter the alliance base, i think it plays after the first song which is the one i'm trying to find (orchestra sounding one)
My life was a hell three years ago and it still hasn't improved much, yet. I remember this music from when I returned from school to my house, dad wasn't home, and me playing WoW in Shadowmoon Valley... and 2 years later I got a Netherdrake... One my favourite zones.
this track is amazing, the vocals and atmosphere and how they invoke the feelings of desolation and destruction that fit this zone perfectly. Guys like Russell Brower, Derek Duke, Matt Uelmen who have written for WoW and other blizzard games do not get enough credit for their talent. This is real music, not the manufactured pop music you hear on the radio. Music that can make you feel something without words. Now that takes talent.
@timbo81 Could not agree more! But I notice that I dont pay much attention to the music in-game. First when I got to YouTube and listened to them, I realized how great they are.
Cataclysm is too instrumental orchestral type of music. I wish they would consider how WoW is a fantasy world, and that soundtracks such as this put more emphasis on emotions and atmosphere of the specific zone. Its so important infact that I never could enjoy Cataclysm 100%. Its like hearing violins 24/7 World of Warcraft:Cataclym: There will be Violins... lots of em!
This music gives me the creeps, but I liked Shadowmoon Valley a lot. There was this night elf female tied up in the dungeons down there that's really weird looking too.
@JAL924 i think its Fel Lava from the world being so corrupted by demons. It seems to me like the Outlands are infected and bleeding from terrible wounds.
@Inforcas Yeah it's strange.. Icecrown lacks anything as dark and creepy as this, it feels cold for sure :P but theres no real feeling of terror, death, destruction, aguish, anger etc.. like there is with Illidans story and Outland.
@19ryan76 LOL! it's shadowmoon man!! but there are influences between the two zones!! and the shadwomonn music plays in baldes edge mountains in those fell areas as well!
nah imo the thing that wrecked it was patch 2.8, the last one before WoTLK, where they completely revamped the talent tree.. A resilience change just went live which greatly improves damage reduction, but it would be a disaster if they made resilience buff your hp (or stamina for that matter). I recently saw a hunter hanging around in Dala with 40k hp unbuffed, to make resi improve your hp by a % per point would be a HUGE mistake :S
This music takes me back... I've only been playing since december '08, and it took me a while to get to outland, and that was even as a death knight but... Outland. It mattered more. You could look to the sky and you would see infernals raining. Now WoTLK is great, but im asking:
Not at all. Burning Crusade is the best that happened to WoW. I think atleast. I want more legion. Remember? You'r first step into hellfire? How epic that was? Atleast it was for me <3 It was pure awesomeness
Yeah really, you'd think the demons who are on a warpath throughout the universe and created the Scourge would be a bigger threat than Arthas and the undead...
@torsnn i hear you, im not saying that tbc was a much better expansion, although pvp was at it's peak in tbc, but northrend is just not as epic im afraid. it was supposed to be just as epic, setting foot in the icy hell of northrend in the pursuit of arthas, and it WAS epic but it doesnt compete with infernals raining from the sky, sky riders fighting over thallmar and forein planets in the distance. stepping through the dark portal was EPIC! i hope i experience that feeling when i face sargeras!
I'm not sure why someone would negative your comment, as its merely your opinion. In some ways I agree with you. I quit WoW a couple of weeks ago and have been surviving so far. Anyways, I don't blame you for liking BC over WoTLK better. As I've posted above, along with aboymadeofweed, stepping through the Dark Portal was EPIC. Hellfire was great. We'll see what cataclysm is like, I guess. May go back in the summer.
I remember first coming to the Howling Fjord and being completely awestruck. I had to upgrade my RAM on my laptop to fully enjoy it, and am glad I did.
But I have to say that Outland is pretty cool. My favourite (Canadian spelling) place was Hellfire Peninsula, personally. I just LOVED walking through the Dark Portal into HP with the aura of chaos and cataclysm all around me. Nagrand was good too. Hated BEM and zangarmarsh.
i totally agree, i only started playing in april, but i like outland alot more then northrend, Northrend ofc has it's nice points too, I just got one of my chars to northrend again, but i really enjoyed questing in shadowmoon Valley :)
I've been WOW-sober for 16 months, and I'm never going back. I found something better =D But I still love the music, because EVE-Online's music is crap. Go ahead, hate EVE. I like it. ^_^
Well, you're still visiting Youtube pages of wow, so youre not entirely sober :) Same ehre tho. Havent played WoW since June. I dont see myself going back to it in the foreseeable future either. But, that doesnt change the fact that I think it's thee best mmorpg Ive ever played....and Ive played alot. Im playing 3 "free to play" mmorpgs that are ok.
this music is absolutely STUNNING. it makes me feel so nostalgic... the track is incredibly inspiring as well. I love to listen to this and draw... it's so great when you're trying to draw a dark monstrous creature or a tortured landscape. (I wonder why? haha)
Thanks for putting this up; now i can listen to one of my favorite TBC songs of all time!
I was more intimidated by my first steps in Shadowmoon than I ever was in any part of Icecrown. This place just oozes with dark atmosphere, a perfect home for the tortured Illidan.
@Virgilx711 icecrown really wasnt that scary, cuz its just a load of undead. but my 1st trip to icecrown was flying WAY above all the mobs, so yeah. but undead gets boring after dragonblight, at least with all the wintergarde quests. and guess what? ive never lvled in the plaguelands!
@Virgilx711 agrred its perfect for him but BY FAR the most fitting is ice crown i shat myself when the music kicked in and ice is just perfect for Arthas.
2:40 I imagine this as Illidan's lament resonating throughout the valley.
