Actually, you really have to be careful because some of the stuff on Etsy is sold by resellers who are claiming their stuff is handmade. Etsy knows about it, but they don't really do anything to shut down their stores, because, well, they bring money to the site.
My sis and I have a shop on Etsy named SandMWorld. I def love Etsy and looking at other artist's work! ;D Neat how Rachel had Etsy on the show too! ;D
Etsy is a great place to both buy and sell there are so many incredibly talented people offering unique items and the personal touch is something you won't find at your local Mall.
It's everything HANDmade, not "homemade." There's a BIG difference. That's a wonderful idea from Rachel about shopping from the giftee's hometown. Makes a special gift AND saves on fuel, too!
