  • i had to get a startech express card while using win 7 for my mac with snow leopard no issues but with my sony vaion i had alot of poping sound from my mic the card fixed the problem, keyword you need to use texas instrument chipset

  • m-audio product sucks...i just threw my m-audio solo away cause it crashes after using it for one or two hours and it just out of control

  • Here is the best advice that you will ever get!

Get rid of mac and get a pc!

  • @telik002 I'll settle for a Mac that doesn't break down when there's an r in the month.

  • that is the worst audio interface ever imo. mine has caused me problems too...they are horrendous.

  • I put the driver in for my solo and turn the computer on and nothing it doesnt even show up but the interface works and the driver works put it together broken crap I got a dell 1501 with vista 2gb ram 120gb hardrive

  • I put the driver in for my solo and turn the computer on and nothing it doesnt even show up but the interface works and the driver works put it together broken crap

  • M-audio 410.

Was not compatible with vista for the longest time!

MS admitted it.. MA did not~

Always requires going back to their driver site for a new batch of problems.

Mic jacks trashy. Flashing blue light asking for DL but the driver install software cannot find an ,inf file! its there as a txt file but not an inf.

Problem after problem - Think twice!

It will short the firewire comm chips soonner or later and messes with other devices on the firewie hub!

  • mine just stopped working all together, the blue light blinks on and off but that's it. i can't use my pro tools m powered with out it.

  • @gamingheat did you get urs fixed

  • @immortalali09 haven't been fixed, I'm still asking around to see if anyone can help me but if it comes down to it I'll have go buy a new one.

  • reinstall the latest driver

  • german pls german!!!!i have a problem with firewire i dont know how can install firewire...what do you need cabel for connection the pc??'and software??plssss answar plssss.....

  • Same Thing Happen to me!And I'm stuck in China and couldn't take it back!Piss me off to no end!

  • It was maby the FireWire cord

  • m-audio has fallen the fall of shame. Chinese POS. No more phone support. Outrageous sense of hubris from those clowns at AVID.

    I spend my money elsewhere.

  • I have this soundcard, but I use it under WinVista. It disconnects from the port and drops off quite often. I didn't know what the reason was until I found out, that everytime I switch any power appliance on OR EVEN off in my room, the soundcard disconnects. I had to buy a special socket power surge protection

  • K.O

  • i want help i have buy this soundcard and i dont know wher can the input on the pc can you make a video from soundcard to pc the input and ouput plsssssss.......

  • m-audio doesn't make very good audio interfaces.

try presonus, e-mu, echo, digidesign if you have a pc, or apogee if you have a mac. all of those have great usb and firewire entry level interfaces, although usb should be avoided all together if you are serious about home recording.

  • Analog men in a digital world. It's a bitch! :)

  • try leaving out the external mixer it's just another thing the information has to run through to get to the interface i/o increasing latency which in some wacky way could be confusing the computer or the interface

  • @ Hadez30966 - Texas Instruments invented FireWire and at the moment they are the only ones doing it right. The other manufacturers, from economy or deadline reasons (they had to get the chips out quick), didn't implement the standards in full, and introduced some bugs of their own.

This is fine for things like external hard drives, but on an audio interface that makes full use of the capabilities of the bus, the controllers that are not 100% compliant will drop out.

  • YOU NEED TEXAS INTRUMENT CHIPSET TO RUN THIS INTERFACE WHITOUT PROBLEMS IN YOUR PC THATS THE PROBLEM THAT YOU HAVE.

  • @TechcoreIsSexy why do you need a Texas Instrument Chipset , what is the differnt ?

  • Hi ciould anyone help me please. i have a firewire m audio 410 it works fine but I want to use the outputs at the back ( 1/2, 3/4 etc...) But i cant find the cables to use... Do i have to plug to jacks in that go into one jack output? thanks

  • I'm a technician and a musician.. and I quit on this pile of crap.. it's an overpriced paperweight, while I look for alternatives..

  • i have the m-audio 410 and ive installed it soo many times and followed everything perfectly, im using pc, and when i try using the 410 the b;ue light keeps blinking like it did at the start of this video only mine doesnt stop and wont pick up any sound :(

    please could someone please help.

  • @bilbomusician

Sounds like you've either: - Hot swapped the device. - Have an incompatible FireWire chipset in your FireWire card.

If you've ever hot-swpped it, you more than likely blew the FireWire chip in either your card, the 410 or both.

Also, something that's not mentioned in the manual is: don't use it with the power adaptor UNLESS your using a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable.

If you've got 6 pin to 6 pin, DON"T USE THE POWER ADAPTOR.

  • I Run My 410 on pc i Thought When I started running mac I Would Have No Driver Problems Well Surprise Same Trash The 410 Driver Code Needs To Be Rewritten I am A Tec The problem Is either With The 410 or Driver program The Need To do Somthing About It.

  • I have the firewire 410 and it will just stop working. IE: has no sound output. The device has power and looks ok. When I play an mp3 the graphical meters in the software doesnt see any throughput. I have rebooted several times and reseated the firewire cables. Sometimes it will come back. Right now it is dead and I cant get it to work. This video is no help to me because I cant heard the audio... bah-humbug!

  • yea man i have the same problem with the 410 on my mac but on my pc it is great just not for our macs.

  • It's a Milk Dud Device withe a Mac.Totally Useless.I too feel your Pain!Can't give it away!

  • Texas Instruments chipset solved all my issues. Amazingly

  • i have a 410 and so does my friend, we have never had any prolems with it.

  • The FireWire 410 has many problems. To make mine work with 10.5, I have to go to the Audio/MIDI control panel and toggle the sampling rate- then it come back to life. Back in 2007 when you posted this video, I could make it come to life using the technique you show in the video. The problem is not yours but M-Audio's...

  • that sound card is a piece of shit ,its just problem after problem, the drive seems to be there and not be there both at the same time, I got so pissed off with mine i smashed it on the floor

  • I'm currently watching your video and hearing thru my broken 410 with same problems as yours...While watching my audiocard made your voice sound like the belzebub and randomly cut off...

I've gotten two good years out of this sound card, but I'm upset it is not a durable device...The drivers were shitty when I first bought...By the time shit was stable, I was getting random pops and clicks...By the two year mark I get static, distortion, and if I'm really lucky, NO SOUND!!!

  • I have the FW410 .. worst thing I ever bought .. I use a mac .. I've had driver problems, now it just keeps dropping out .. Junk .. If you're thinking of buying one don't, buy anything other than M Audio.

  • By the way, what error is the box giving you? As far as I can tell, lights staying on (indicating input) are normal when someone is sustaining notes.

  • I still say the G5's and early Intel's have the fastest boot times ever....

And yes, you have to launch the monitoring software. I detest my 410. I can't WAIT to get into a Presonus Firepod.

  • reinstal the sistem if thet eror returns then your sond card is brokin

  • the main error is from the pc--you may need to reinstall all the system again, im using firewire too.cheers

  • I have been using M-AUDIO Firewire 410 for 6 years... Most the times i had problems was when i used the drivers that came with the divice on cd... You should go to the digidesign website and download the most current drivers... Alot of the issues come when you arent on 44.1. Its a great device but if used correctly

  • @EPIFFANYPRODUCTIONS do you think it may be the firewire card---

I've heard that there are problems with VIA chipsets, and that TI (Texas Instruments)

    chipsets are much better

  • It's been 3 years and my M-Audio Firewire Solo has been just sitting there not getting any use. Even with drivers, this audio interface is incredibly buggy. Go for Apogee Duet instead.

  • @bluecube you should give to me

  • rancidchucky do u know if it works with protools 8

  • had mine nearly 2 years, works fine everytime. no problems whatsoever

  • The most irritating clunking piece i have ever had the displeasure of owning. The ONLY firewire box that i know of that is NOT plug N play. It's 2009 wtf! And yes it is a big deal. If you unplug the unit while your computer is on it can do serious damage. In a live situation this is unacceptable especially when it starts to cause dropouts and pops. Just got the audiofire2 and that is like an relaxed hang glide down a mountain valley! This thing deserves to be retired...

  • @qulfus

Never, EVER hot-swap a 400 FireWire device. It's not just the 410, it's any FireWire device.

It has to do with the design of the port itself. With just the slightest twist sideways, you'll run your voltage straight into your data lines and blow the FireWire chip inside the device as well as possibly in the host.

Digidesign will tell you this. Apple won't even admit to it.

  • suprising that no-one officially from m-audio has commented given the exposure to their product that this is causing - i think thats what these guys originally asked for in the post ?? m-audio ? what say you ???

  • The "blinking blue light" is because its firmware isn't present or something, it's normal. It loads in when the driver is loaded is my understanding.

Also voicing my support for the TI FW chipset fix. This is what I did, fortunately there are cheap TI based cross platform cards that work well. The PC I built has FW on the board, but it had dropouts and nasty crackles, the TI card fixed it.

  • Just got off the phone with Sweet Water Sound and they said that it was a faulty chipset that was in the 410. Its definitely a hardware issue. That's why they no longer carry this unit anymore. They say the profire series has a better chipset for streaming audio. So we'll see.

  • yo good for you that why you should buy the cheap shit m-audio go with a m-box much better

  • M-audio is AVID. Digidesign is AVID. The Mbox 2 is cheap. M-Audio is also cheap. They are the same company. In fact Digidesign often endorse M-Audio on the website. It's most likely the chipset as has been stated.

1 thing. Do you really need that mixer? Seems more like a paper weight to me. And, if if's a ballstinger mixer as I suspect, you'll be doing yourself a favor getting rid of it.

  • DamnSkippy1 is completely right about the chip texas instruments. If I knew this before, I wouldn't have fried my firewire.

Here in Brazil these things are so expensive. I had bought my card in London for 160 pounds and spent another 160 pounds Here to fix it.

  • A little help from a brazilian producer. I Could fix it.

I was desperate, I tried everything I could and couldn't till I fried it. I decided to send it to the repairment center in São Paulo far from where I live, and bought a dedicated pc firewire card with a texas instruments chipset. Got the drivers form the oficialsite. Now it's working great.

Obs:The firewire can loose sync with chipset from via or other manufacturers.

    Try it. It really works

  • I'm also having problems with my 410 I don't get any audio in my headphones when playing back a session in pro tools. I have to uninstall and reinstall everytime I want to edit record or anything. I get signal in pro tools and in the firewire virtual mixer. just like the video. WTF is up with M Audio? They need to get their shit together!

  • I found this vid as I too am having trouble with my 410 card as well, and very much the same as you. I first tried installing the updates from the M-audio web site. That made it worse - didn't work AT ALL.

I uninstalled the update. I re-installed the drivers from the original CD Rom , and I am having much better luck now.

Unistall your 410 drivers and reinstall from the orig. drivers disc. see if a fresh install restores operations to normal.

    Best of luck.

  • "We're musicians, not technicians..." so true man i feel your pain :(

  • Ok I didnt read through your whole response list but..... If you go to your spot light search and type audio midi setup. and check those settings.

  • I read somewhere while researching this product that some of the firewire chips (I think Via was mentioned) are not real compatable with the 410. By chip, I believe they were refering to what controls the firewire input in the computer itself. I think I remember reading that the Texas Instrument control chip is what the unit works best with. I am not a computer expert and am only relaying what I remember reading in case this helps you or someone else somehow. Best of luck.

  • I bought the 410 summer of 2005 and had problems for most of a year that I discovered was a bad firewire cable.

In the process of troubleshooting, I bought an ADS Tech PC Card (PYRO 1394 CardBus) for $70. and got the newest drivers for XP. Since then (3 years now) it has been rock solid.

  • I have that same issue with my Firewire 410. It's really annoying.

  • i run 10.5 and no issues with this unit anymore, maybe that'll help out.

  • i had recently tried to upgrade my maudio with current software same version as yours and the software itself has been problematic for me as well as others. i dumped it and got an apogee duet- expensive but easy as pie and sounds great. tried to contact maudio tech supp and was on hold for an hour and gave up

  • how can i get videos off my camcorder to my computer someone said at bestbuy that i needed a fire wire but thats like

$100. my camera is a "sony handycam" plz help thanks

  • hey hi, i used one in live performances, this unit requires a lot of processing power from a computer, like the clock speed of your cpu and your ram. i use a laptop with 3.5GHz clock speed and 3Gb of ram just to run it smoothly without a drop out or problem like you mention

  • I really don't understand you guys. First: Install your software, programs and plugins right! Second: you obviously don't know how to use this piece of equipment.. i had it for 2 years running on winxp, and having NOT a single problem ever.. plus, it's great from latency point of wiew, also price regarding. Get your head checked man.. what you're doing it's just mean.. I made lots of GOOD tracks with this one.. Turned it on and play.Think what you want, but this is a great box. My case that is

  • Exactly. These DACs sound great for the price and work awesome.

Check out my review on Amazon on how to set-it up.

If you have an older computer, all you have to do is adjust the buffering. If you don't get audio coming through on your inputs (as it seems Kdelm had tried to do) or are getting drops, its most likely a RAM or CPU issue.

  • oH YEAH, AND THE INPUTS ARE CRAP TOO.

  • I've had this card for 3 or 4 years. It's pure shit for windows all this time. xp sp2, xp64 sp2, xp sp3, and vista ultimate32 all blew in their own disgusting fashion. The only common denominator: random sound card freezing during recording, requiring restart of all hardware including soundcard before audio would function again. DAC quality blows compared to MOTU anyway. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CARD. ITS TOXIC. IT WILL MAKE YOU NOT WANT TO MAKE MUSIC.

  • ok first off make sure you have your monitors hooked up to the interface. Then from there plug in a pod from your amp into the interface. After that reinstall the CD it comes with.

  • What kind of game mic or adaptors do I need to connect to my m-audio ? I want to play some video games online and since I only have my m-audio 410 what do I need to get a game mic working on it ?

  • ah here we go ! question !

What kind of game mic or adaptors do I need to connect to my m-audio ? I want to play some video games online and since I only have my m-audio 410 what do I need to get a game mic working on it ?

  • i'm glad i clocked this vid, i'm in the market for an audio interface and was considering the 410 because i heard the AD/DA convertors were the dogs bollox, but shit if you're gettin this much shit with it and so so many ppl are saying the same thing i think i'll be better off going elsewhere, anyone know about the echo audiofire 4??

  • i must tell you that every single problem adressed in this video is not a hardware problem. The card runs just fine for me, you just need to be patient and read the manuals. ive used this card on several computers, and it works very good. I am not an employee of M-Audio, in fact i am chilean . But ive manage to record my music, even to earn about 4 times the price of the card so far recording bands. learn to use it or urine on it.

  • u just happened to receive an oddball that works fine.

Everytime turn on my ssytem, to record i have to launch my 410 control panel and click reset.

  • mmm... good time to know it... i've just buyed one... but the touble is that i use vista, 'cause my laptop doesn't work with anithing else... the driver cd, doesn't worked with my pc, but i downloaded the vista driver, hope i don't have any trouble... :S

  • Mine is fucked up too. I think it has something to do with the osx 10.4.6 update. I hadn't used it in a long time, but last time I did, it worked and that was before the update.

  • Sure doesn't sound like hardware to me. Sounds like a driver issue. Check to see if M-Audio has any updated drivers for the 410.

  • i know I use to have the fukin m audo fast track pro is a piece of shit 2 .... that shit get frezze at the middle of the recording singing and fuckt everiting up .... after that i have to restar the pc and i have a 4.2 procesor with 3 gb ram so i dunt think pc is the problem .... after that i both the pressonus audio box wey cheper and works much better

  • i think im going to open it up take a shit on it put the case back on and ship that piece of crap back to them with a note that says heres your piece of shit back i hope it stinks as much as your drivers do

  • Thanks I needed that! ROFLMAO!! I was about to chuck my 410 through the window and run it over with my car!

  • im sittin on hold with their tech support rite now ive only been on hold for 45 minutes looks like their customer service is as crappy as their products

  • if i power off my fw410 i get a massive ground hum from the m-audio monitors that are plugged into it. if the product worked correctly you wouldnt need a work around like daisy chaining or using a powerd fw bus

  • m-audio is the biggest piece of crap company ever DO NOT BUY ANY MAUDIO PRODUCT EVER!!!!! you have been warned. i have a fw410 the mac drivers have never worked correctly i have a mac pro 8 core if i plug in my isight camera it corrupts the driver i have to un/reinstall even if i get it to work by never pluging in my camera the driver still gets messed up randomly for no reason. ms has been 64 bit for a year but still no 64 bit drivers never worked correctly on osx 10.4 /10.5 or on my powerbook

  • Yeah, I am having a lot of problems with my M Audio interface as well. I'm running Windows XP 32bit SP3 and I managed to install it fine, but as soon as you turn off your computer and turn it on the next day or whatever, it says the interface is not deteced and you must reinstall it. I should not have to do this everytime I wanna use it. Stay away from M-Audio stuff, it's pure shit. Ripped off.

  • Forgot to mention I had the same issues as you describe and found resetting the 410 to be a solution most of the time.

  • I am about to buy a 410, are you guys saying that I shouldn't??? Please let me know before i make a horibble mistake.

  • Hear you loud and clear. My 410 only works if I reset it before each session then manually reload all my settings, and even then I need to switch off my imac and reconnect the 410 a few times. When it's working it's a good unit but it seems infested with bugs. It also causes my imac to require a restart from time to time so always back up as you go. There's a market out there for a reliable interface, but the 410 ain't it.

  • Here's what I did, I think this should help you guys out:

#1: Take a screwdriver and insert it into every orifice of that box while rotating your hand in large clockwise motions.

    #2. Urinate on it.

#3. Mail it to M-audio with a thank you note.

  • I have the same problems with my firewire 410 like you ! Is it better when I purchase an USB interface ?

  • I have a Macbook pro and and older G4 tower. There are issues with the Firewire ports on both of these. The MetricHalo unit wouldn't even start, and the Firebox and RME Fireface had a strange high pitched hiss. My solution was to buy a powered firewire bus, and plug the interface into there. Or, daisy chain it through an external firewire hard drive. M-audio is pretty budget equipment, so i wouldn't be surprised if there were further issues. Hope this helps.

  • u better get USB Interface

  • So could you post an update? Ta..

  • F@CK M audio I have a brand new mac book pro it wont even read the driver for the 410. And the customer support is horrible. I just got it I still have the receipt and I am taking it back ASAP!!!!!

  • don't know if you still need help but, the 410 is not the prob. When you install the 410 it becomes your sound card, if your old card is still in the system your keyboard will no longer play unless you switch to the 410 or take out the old card. Then once assigned to a DAW that DAW is in control, not all DAW's release control when closed. Pick a DAW and uninstall all the rest. Then add one at a time back until you start getting issues. This is very general if you need more help let me know!

  • um yes the fw410 is the problem it doesnt work correctly

  • hey wats up??

i just wanna kno wat mixer you use?

  • I've had the Firewire solo, and I have your problem. I think its from all the hotplugging.

  • M-Audio's FireWire Solo sucks, too. Mine used to work fine and now it's basically a brick. Totally useless.

  • tha simple answer. 1 get a notebook. 2 get you an external firewire card.

  • I got that problem about 1 and a half year ago. it happened when I made an update on my apple g5 . then I reinstalled the oldest 410 software version I found... and suddenly it was working again (and still works)...the interface is fine, but the software updates are crap, so be very careful with it!!!

  • u just have to use the right adapter, if u just use a 12v adapter is not enough

  • i used the updated firmware. it wont work on xp grgrgr

  • ditto! I have service pack 3 and it is not compatible! WTF do I do next?

  • you just need to upgrade the firmware

  • I hav 1 too. It was fine at first, then started turning itself off at random times and making my speakers pop loudly. Now I can't get it 2 turn back on at all. The blue light just blinks and that's it. What a waste of money!

  • god i have the same exact problem. i hate this thing now. unfortunately, i'm tied to either m-audio or digi for pro tools. looks like i'm gonna have to put the funds down for a digi unit. ughhhhhh

  • my friend says it works perfect with his macbook with logic running Tiger

  • I think some of you are right, this thing is a piece of crap. Well, I have it now, so I'm stuck with it for the time being. One problem I would like to solve is, the mic signal only comes out on one side - I mean in an individual track, one side is real strong, and the other is real weak. I don't see anywhere where I can control the panning. Seems to be something with the input mixer for the 410.

Other problems are, getting a high pithced whine - like a ground problem (one person said...

  • "take out the earth from the plug" - HUH??? The plug is from a transformer and only has the two prong plug in.

Other problem, no matter what I do, I cannot monitor the input signal through the headphones.

Wish I would have found this video before I spent money on this piece of junk.

  • for input through head phones i had to go and adjust the setings on computer itself not my recording software which i use protool. in the computers settings under adjust audio properties it will have a list of all outputs on the 410 unit.... as far as panning have you tried to reset the unit using 410 mixer interface you can pull up on your computer

    hopefully i was some help

  • Was gonna buy this but instead bought a Focusrite Saffire.Install was a breeze and it runs beautifully.Using a PC with sonar 7,HAS ZERO latency. This unit is wonderful. Thanks to all the comments here bout the firewire 410.Most likely have saved myself many headaches.

  • You are right on the money with this problem. I bought the same firewire 410 but rarely use it because of the problems that i can't solutions to. It totally killed my desire to record music. This really is a piece of SHIT.

  • I would suggest to re-install the driver, not the new though.

Hi can anybody help me, I just got mine about a week ago. It's working well but now every time I turn it off the LED of the power blinks slowly. Why? any one knows?

  • it supossed to blink when off and steady when on will only go completely off when unplugged or puter its connected to is shut down

  • it keeps me up every night...you cant stop it lol

  • Ur problem is ur using a mac....Ha Ha. No seriously tho thanks for posting this cause I want to buy 1 but i see many of u ppl have lots of headaches with this so I think I gonna wait..Sez this vid was added 6/27 that was 10 months ago I hope this issue has been resolved.

  • as of 12/10/08 it hasnt been fixed and dont bother with techsupport they will tell you its your computer

  • yeah i had ALOT of problems with my firewire 410... and eventually it just went away once i re-installed it... firewire 410 its to much of a hassle to use.. it might be theres factory errors but you guys aren't the only ones

  • yeah i had ALOT of problems witht my firewire 410... and eventually it just went away once i re-installed it... but idk firewire 410 its to much of a hast

  • i got one a week ago, and i am using the ableton software it came with. i started to record and i did all the preparation that the lesson told me to do. whenever i play a note it starts choppy, but then it plays smoothly after. i am using a korg r3. does anyone know how i can fix this?

  • i just bought one its not freezin up just afet like 15 min of use i start gettin static that getts louder and louder until it just cust off all sound

  • I had the same problem. Work for a year or so, then crapped out. Just has the fast blue LED flashing when start up. Tried updated drivers, under Windows XP and Vista several times. Their phone support was a 30-40 minute wait and no response via email support. And, FAQ and knowledge base only states the obvious 'reload the drivers'. I'm going to buy another brand next.

  • did it fix it?

  • hi.. you can download the new drivers for the fw 410

its all that you need to fix the problem i had the same problems a couple of weeks ago... bye..

  • How much RAM do you have. The 410 seems to run best with 2.00GB of RAM. I used to run with 1GB and it sucked. Now I upgraded to 2GB's and it does perfect.

  • your fucked lol

  • I have probs with mine too hate the thing. waste of money.

Ive heard though that 10.4.10 on your operating system..and not the last driver for 10.4.10 from m-audio but the one before is best. Try that. Heard that on a forum. I had to do the same thing as you guys, but someone also said click the reset button on that firewire mixer screen, and should resets it back to normal. It worked for me, but had problems the next time i used the soundcard again.

  • Mine Worked good for a while, then crapped out. Using MOTU Now

  • is a real mac or hackintosh?

  • Real Mac G5

  • btw

i used it on wrong firewire port...a pci-express with via chipset...

With original apple firewire ports works...

So are u sure that u running it on original fireware apple ports?

  • Yep I used the Right Port

  • I have the same problem.... the same... i will sold this shitty card!

    And buy RME! or Motu!

  • Good Move

  • i have never had a problem with my firewire 410.... ether you got a bad one or its an operator error.

  • It's a bad one - No operator error ! I would send it for service if I didn't buy a MOTU

  • Attention: The Firewire 410 is NOT compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. After visiting the m-audio website, I got the impression that they would not be making drivers to support this edition of XP, since this version of XP is not compatible with most recording hardware and software.

i hope that helped u out

  • m-audio (audio ) drivers s u c k ! always did

  • YA tried to use with XPMCE at first - NG! Hooked it up to my G5, it worked great until . . .

  • same for x64 vista!!!!!!!!!!, what wrong with them, when the driver are there the products are outstanding

  • Hehe Im so glad I bought the Focusrite Saffire LE, same price, no problems, great sound.

    M-audio is crap.

  • Are the pre amps good? Any suggestions for standalone Pre's ?

  • Definitely looks like a driver issue. I have no such problems with my 410 on my XP machine. I've heard that the Mac drivers for the 410 aren't the greatest. If your drivers and MacOS are updated, I'd call M-Audio tech support.

  • I've got the first of the problems, no sound at startup. Even when I log out my OS X account and login again, the sound will be gone.

The difference between us is that I click 'Reset' in the top right corner of the M audio software to get the sound working.

  • The M-Audio website has a FAQ item that mentions the quick blinking LED indicator. The resolution is to uninstall the driver and re-install it. Also, follow their instructions exactly for this procedure.

If this does not resolve the problem, then your box has gone flaky, and you'll want to call M-Audio and get a replacement. It certainly looks like your unit is flaky internally, due to those odd momentary errors.

  • THIS VID IS THE SHIT 4-REAL!

  • did you contact the m-audio support? they are very fast and friendly - and know most of the problems.

I had some problems with my firewire 410 too and they said it has to do with the chipset on my firewire card. They work perfectly with chips from Texasinstruments - other not quite that well
