i saw in a documentary it was because of his chin..the shape of it. not really sure what that means though :)

Well, it stems from around the time u2 formed. Everyone was given nicknames. And it was natural to expand on phyisical features for inspiration. Bono means "Good Voice" and it suited him because he was a singer. I suppose Edge developed, in the same sort of way!
