  • Your videos are great. Have learned a lot, but have more questions. Winches are often mounted above bumper, yet front mounted hitches sit low to the ground. Other than more likely sitting in the mud while stuck, any disadvantage to having a winch mounted low? Suggestions for dealing with the mud? Anything else to consider when installing a winch using a front mounted hitch?

  • @stewartx5 Well, the advantage to have a low-mounted winch is that it has a lower center of gravity, allowing for a more even pull on the vehicle frame. Also, using a front mount hitch is often cheaper, requires a lot less vehicle modification and makes the winch easily removeable, should you ever need to remove it. The disadvantage, like you said, is that if the front was in the mud. There really is no great suggestion to deal with mud, espically because mud problems varies with each encounter.

Of course, I meant in relation to a hitch-mounted winch. Guess I'll just have to dig down through the mud to it. Good enough. Thanks once again for all the great info.

  • @stewartx5 You're welcome! Let me know if there is anything thing else I can help you with.
