The problem with having a boy and girl sing the entire role in Humperdinck's opera live is that it is a long opera and the Wagnerian orchestration that he uses would easily drown them out. I have a recording from the 70's with Eugen Hug singing Hansel that's nice. He was about 13, and the girl singing Gretel around 14, but since the girl was in fact a mature young lady, it sounded like a little boy singing with his babysitter at times!
@AML2000 The Regensburger Domspatzen (the worlds oldest boys choir) did perform this Opera the whole length in 1970. All child actors were boys and only the bitch and the parents were played by adult opera singers. Nethertheless, it was one of the best Hänsel&Gretel performance so far.
natürlich gibt es knaben, die in einer oper die hauptperson sind und singen. außerdem kann ich zu 100% garantieren, dass das eine live aufnahme ist und die beiden "real" gesungen haben

usually it's because the role in the opera is too big for a kid (or they can't find 4 or 5 kids that can handle the roles. because of child-labour laws)

Nein, besser mit zwei Buben! Und real...? Viele Rollen in Opern wurden von Personen des anderen Geschlechten dargestellt. Tja, ich liebe Knabenchöre, vor allem die Tölzer, und der Dirigent dieses Chores hat auch mit den Tölzern gearbeitet, nicht wahr? Hier singen die Bub'n ein bißchen schüchtern, aber sonst wunderschön! Ich liebe dieses Stück!

Es gibt auch Knaben, die ein natürliches Vibrato haben! - Das Vibrato entwickelt sich im Laufe der Zeit von alleine. Alles Andere ist gekünstelt!

In English, this is "Prayer from Hansel and Gretel". It is sung in Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera by a boy and a girl.
