I like Nicklaus' (Jack Grout's) point of view on ball position. It's simpler. Play everything off the inside of the left heel and progressively move the right foot back as the clubs get longer... The only "possible" exception is the driver... We intend to hit the driver on the upswing so playing it just ahead of the left heel is acceptable. If you think about it... inside the left heel is the exact spot the clubhead begins to make contact with the ball.
