A good tip i have recently found with Reason4, if you are using Cubase sx3 aswell, rewire all your reason plug ins to the Mixer on Cubase it sounds a lot better!
yo is there a forum or something that has a long list of different fun device chains ect to try out. there must be something like this somewhere. All i can find is tutorials on the basics. ANYTHING FUN ANYWHERE?????????
you will need to use another program like protools, cubase, ablton, or the like to record your vocal, then if you want to import them you can do so by using one of the samplers in reason, or you could in theory rex the files as well..hope this helps.
@Mleo43 you could also use Record, which is also made by Propeller head, it has an advanced sequencing page, and you can import your vocals or record them strait into the program. Record will maximize your Reason experience
hey man, i believe you record the vocals via a different host program like protools or cubase. once you export the file, you then open it just like you would open any of the samples that come with all of the devices.. i.e. malstrom etc etc i use reason 3 though. but yeah i dont think the actual recording is done through reason
i can pretty much understand that the vocoder is a pretty nice tool for vocal manipulation but WHAT IM TRYIN 2 FIGURE OUT IS HOW DOES T-PAIN AND DAFT PUNK GET THEIR VOCODING QUALITY TO SOUND SO NICE!?!?!?!? LOLdorry for the caps but ive been tryin 2 get it 2 sound like that for a while but the only thing is that the filters..........how many do you need exactly 4-8.8 to 16?im confused man do you know how to get it like that
hey optronix, nice vid and vocoding. Could you use a matrix to mod the gate cv of the synth(modulator/carrier device, can't remember which is which) to get same the me-e-e-e-e effect?
By extending the notes on the sub tractor MIDI track that the vocoder is fed, and by using automation control to turn the HOLD button on the Vocoder (ON). Hope this helps ya.
hey bro, i have a quick question? how do u open that bar with all the instruments/sounds, (located on the bottom left corner in ur video) i really dont know what it actually has inside but I know it has sounds.. lol ok well I have Reason 4.0 and dont know if I have it. I see u have windows so this should work on Xp.
Say if you want to import a new sample, but use the vocoding effect. will you have to recreate the whole setup again or is there a way of just wiring the sample into setup that is already created? thanks in advance
just load the sampler with a new sample..but keep in mind your keyboard line track in the vocoder will need to be changed to match the new sample..if you so choose
I do gating effects almost the same way, pencil in the automation for the on and off mute button on mixer. Back in reason 2.0 you couldn't copy controller data so i had to pencil this in for all the tracks manually....Time consuming!!! Thx 4.0!
optronix thanx a bunch mate. cant wait to try and put your tutorial into practise. im a big daft punk fan and i always wanted to know how to get that sound. your a star
I would LOVE to see a tutorial vid on the rex. It's a great instrument but I'd like to learn to use it to play home made loops ie: vocals etc...
Possibly even a tutorial of how to include vocals into songs. I'm having to mix everything down to a wave editor before I can add vocals at the moment.
i just did some automation that i got from this clip.. VERY HELPFULL. however to get that transform sound i automated the MUTE button of a channel. I got a cleaner on/off sound by it for my purpose. yours sounds awesome though i just thought i'd give a different way to get to a transform sound if you need it insanely fast.
I gotta tell you.. your clips are the BOMB man, i have learned so much from you. so THX for that, keep them coming now reason 4 is out :p
by any chance do you know, if i export everything from reason as individual loops, into acid pro and use that for my sequencer and to record vocals, does it loose its original sound quality when imported into acid??, especially vocoded stuff, and distorted drums from the scream 4. Im sure it does.....very annoying as i dont want to use reasons sequencer!!!!
sound quality loss will depend on the compression that Acid uses..on audio, and if any time stretching will be involved as acid does this..You should be able to export and then import into acid without too much sound quality loss..let me know how you do..thanks for the question.
thanx for the reply, av bin doin this for a while it works ok, its just, when playin each track in acid it seems a bit,,, duller....if u know what i mean lol....not as crisp basically. but thanx for the advice
not a stupid question..Each vocal in this track..is one long sample loaded into a sampler of your choice. I recorded the vocals using Sound Forge, while listening to my music on headphones..then I imported the saved .wav file into reasons basic sampler..easy as 1,2,3,4,5,6 ha! or so....
Can anyone tell me if its possible to install your copy of reason 4 more than once? please?

Awesome! Great vid.
But i was wondering... how do you make that crazy cool effect at the end of your singing, where it stutters.
Do you just take a clip and place a bunch of it in a row? something like that?

Great tutorial, Just wondering though how did you get your original voice (without the vocoder) to skip at the end of your phrase.
i have some lyrics that i just want to hold and skip, without using the vocoder
omarion111 4 years ago
I turned that part of the vocal into a REX file, and then repeated the "me" slice on time..thanks for whatching!
optronix001 4 years ago
thanks, i was always a fan of that effect, your tutorials are always a great help
omarion111 3 years ago
dude
you rule the reason tutorials
The keyboard track is so fat (minus vocoder)
if this a full song you have for sale?
I would carry out those 2 notes forever! the passage gives me such a positive vibe and
makes me feel gansta!! at the same time
thanks for the inspiration!
