Hahaha why are people comparing music albums? Just enjoy the music! Not one album is better, because it's music. It's meant to be entertaining, not competitive. While it might have existed between the bands, their effort created music worth listening all these years later.
'It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water. I love the album so much. I've just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life. I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard that album. To me, it certainly is a total, classic record that is unbeatable in many ways. I've often played Pet Sounds and cried. "You Still Believe in Me" is my favourite, I love the melody - that kills me. It's so beautiful right at the end, sends shivers up my spine.' - Paul McCartney
@progreadicto - no Pet Sounds, no Sgt. Pepper's. Even Paul said so. There was NOTHING like the ping-pong synergy between Brian and the Beatles, starting with Rubber Soul and ending with the answer to Good Vibrations, Hey Jude. Two years of unparalleled genius at work --- ended by Capitol Records execs when they killed the SMILE project in June 67. PURE MADNESS.
@radioPete444 well, both albums are great (peppers and pet sounds),but i'm still thinking that pet sounds is better, IMO. Wilson said that rubber soul was better than pet sounds, but i think pet sounds was in another dimension when you compare it with rubber soul (4 or 5 rescatable songs and the rest just filler). i always think that abbey road is the best of the beatles
@progreadicto Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album, too; their last great effort together...the tension came through loud and clear.
Pet Sounds wins out for its' brilliance, but also because Brian did it by himself. Unlike the "team effort" of the Beatles & George Martin, Brian confronted concrete feet dragging from his own band -- AND the same record company that had the Beatles. To call it a double standard would have been kind.
@radioPete444 Capitol Records wanted another Mike Love macho hot rod car/surfing, pick-up chicks ditty, and instead Brian gave them THIS. Capitol execs rewarded Brian by putting out a Best Of album JUST THREE MONTHS AFTER RELEASE OF THE "DUD", PET SOUNDS.
@radioPete444 obviously the great albums are hardly appreciated at their time. the same with the velvet underground and nico and many other masterpieces.
@radioPete444 yes, wilson was composer, producer and arranger of his masterpieces, in the case of the beatles george martin was responsable of the "decoration" of the songs, the reason why the people thinks that the beatles are geniuses is precisely for that "decoration" and their catchy melodies. i dont know if Martin was more genius than his pupils. maybe yes, maybe not. a great dilemma: what would happen with the beatles if they had never met Martin?
One of the most experimental and best albums by The Beach Boys. Pet Sounds runs the range of stretching their surf, and beach sounds to a new direction.
this album was really liked by p.k.and the sound explosion.
