Man, some people need to reach into their hearts and read better. The potential for all to be saved from pain doesn't mean that what we do on this earth doesn't matter. Why can't we be motivated by goodness??! Rob seems irritated and defensive in this whole interview, which makes me feel bad for the guys he's talking with, but at the same time I don't blame him, he's been through a lot of crap with narrow-minded people totally misunderstanding his book.
Both Bell and Warnock are concerned about telling people about the resurrection. How about telling them that there is a resurrection unto eternal life as well as a resurrection unto eternal damnation (John 5:29)
Bell wants to leave you with the impression that Jesus came to this world to make it a better place right here and now - to set up his Kingdom RIGHT NOW. This world (kingdom) is still run by the god of this kingdom-Satan himself. Jesus came to this world to seek and to find the lost. He cannot find people who do not want to know they are lost (on their way to hell). That's why he said "They that are whole (who think they're OK) need not a physician; but they that are sick. (Luke 5:31).
Bell: Hi there, I’m Bell and I’m here to tell you Jesus loves you.
Unbeliever: Really! Jesus loves me? Who’s Jesus? Never heard of him.
Bell: Never mind, your ignorance is actually your redemption cause He, being the Door that leads to his Father, automatically draws you to Him so that you may enter through Him. You see, his redemptive power actually works like a vacuum cleaner. You are a piece of dirt that is sucked in whether you like it or not.
@lessingtom i don't know what bible you were reading. But every word out of Jesus' mouth was not "hell"...he spoke of parables. The people whom he spoke to weren't aware of these big time spiritual words because it didn't matter to him. I believe that Rob simply was trying to say that the acknowledgement and acceptance of love and eternal salvation from Jesus Christ are more necessary in the life of new believers and those giving this christian faith a try, whom are the majority of his audience.
I never said that every word that came from Jesus' mouth was about hell. I think it's just the other way around. Today's so-called post modern intellectuals think they know the meaning of "these big time spiritual words" but they are completely ignorant of their meaning. Rob Bell has proved this over and over in his book "Love Wins."
Do you think Jesus was scaring people into being Christians when He warned them about hell in Luke 13: 2, 3: "Do you think that these Galileans were greater sinners than all the other Galileans because they have suffered in this way? I tell you, No; but unless you repent change your mind for the better and heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins, you will all likewise perish and be lost eternally.
Popular belief has always been a little dicey. I wouldn't bet my life on popular belief. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has never been popular with the world.
No one can be saved unless they understand and acknowledge that they are lost, which means "on there way to hell." Jesus said: "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10)
The Bible does not teach eternal punishment. God's love and mercy endures forever. Does it really endure forever or only in this life? How can it be Good News if it doesn't translate to the afterlife?
1 Timothy 4:10- This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
Thank you again for having the courage to stand by your' convictions. I hear the others condemning you for it and what comes to my mind immediately is how the Pharisees were always railing on Jesus for his seeming disregard for the Law. The Sabath made for man, etc. We must all remember that Jesus was crucified for blasphemy.
Given time more people will discover that many of our medieval interpretations didn't reflect what the original biblical text meant. Rob just found that earlier and remains courageous. And not alone.
Of course, Rob Bell's questions are honest questions. But he is putting doubts in the minds of people about scripture; and i am concerned that he is pushing more people to hell because of what he is doing. As far as i am concerned, Rob's questions are humanly & reasonably valid but not Scripturally valid. This is the very reason why the Bible teaches in James 3 to not let many become teachers, for they will be judge stricter.
To insinuate Rob Bell believes he knows the answers to all of the questions he raises in his book is erroneous. I came away from the book feeling better about the opportunity people have to eternally be a part of God's Kingdom, but I did not think Rob Bell believes he has a right or wrong answer to his suppositions as the interviewer implies.

@codyhill Regarding Galations 5:22 You are right, If that man is not producing fruit of faithfulness and self control as you mentioned, but fruits of fornication it is clear that he is not sitting under sound teaching leading him toward repentance and a restored marriage. That is God's will. Don't know if you are married and have kids but divorce is a difficult thing that forever affects that man, his wife, their children and grandchildren.
the fruit quite obviously that he speaks of in his church is one of fornication :( Please read 1 Corinthains 5:11 Rob bells message is one that is palatable for you. It is not my job to convict you or anyone else of sin, it is the Holy Spirits. If people at his church are producing such fruit, I would take that as a red flag since you want to emphasize fruit.

His response to the cheating husband was every bit correct and your judgmental remarks are tasteless. Mars Hill Church is growing because his message speaks truth. I listened to the audio broadcast on Premier. I assume this is the same debate.
Adrian, brave of you to debate with Bell, but you conceded way too much.
Rob Bell is not a Christian, he is a heretic. He denies what scripture says about God,faith, man, salvation, the atonement, the list goes on. This isn't just about universalism, or inerrancy. It's about the very heart of the gospel. Bell is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
@MarkToTheSky Tell you what, if you can't make a case from the Bible to explain why I am wrong, just resort to abusive name calling, that will win the argument.
@john17v17 Don't worry your head about it. I'll be forgiven for name calling. There's enough evidence in the bible to support your argument, the argument of annihilationism, and the argument of universalism. So what is your point? Why engage in a battle of taking scripture out of context to support either side? You believe what you want, and make sure all is right in your self and that you are doing what you can for your brothers, don't worry how other people find Jesus, be glad they've learned.
@john17v17 Don't worry your head about it. I'll be forgiven for name calling. You believe what you want, and make sure all is right in your self and that you are doing what you can for your brothers, don't worry how other people find Jesus, be glad they've learned.
@MarkToTheSky Neither annihilationism nor universalism are supported by the Bible, & what's more, universalism seriously undermines the preaching of the gospel. If all are saved anyway, it doesn't matter whether ppl believe in Christ as Lord & Saviour or not. Telling people they are going to heaven anyway is like telling people in a burning building, "hey, stay where you are, you'll be fine", when if they do that they will die. It's incredibly wicked & cruel & is typical of Satan's behaviour.
@john17v17 There is a number or arguments I can make, there is a plethora of verses I can quote, but a seasoned debater such as you knows that you won't change what's in my heart, and vice versa. I believe that not accepting Yeshua as Lord and savior will inevitably lead you to the second death, but you and I have completely different interpretations of what the second death is. So, I suggest that we end the debate, and I also suggest that you don't be pharisee like when talking to your brothers
@MarkToTheSky I don't think you understand why Jesus criticised the pharisees. They had faith in themselves, it's called self-righteousness.Rob Bell teaches in Dust that we should have faith in ourselves that we can be like Christ. Now THAT is being a pharisee. A true believer's faith is in Christ alone, never in self. The Lord is my righteousness, I have none of my own, so your pharisee charge fails. Rebuking heresy does not make anyone a pharisee either,we are told to do it in the Bible
@MarkToTheSky PS I also must say your rebuke of me for how I 'talk to my brothers' is rather hypocritical. I have never insulted you with the language you used to insult me. The fruit you display doesn't match up to the notion that you are my brother. From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, & your mouth seems to use foul language with no problem of conscience about doing so.True believers do still struggle with sin, but will have a troubled conscience & so will repent.
@john17v17 So you're that quick to discard me as a brother in Christ, because I use foul language, and don't interpret the scriptures exactly like you or the pastor who interpreted them for you (if be the case). I am just as good a person as you, foul language and all. You also create a classification of "true believer", as to say I am not a true believer, like you consider yourself to be, which makes no sense and I'll tell you why...
@MarkToTheSky I have not created my own classification of true believer, it was Jesus himself who said that 'from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks', and also 'you shall know them by their fruit'. Whilst true believers do still sin,the Bible does not recognise there is such a thing as a Christian who continues in sin with an untroubled conscience, no matter what they claim to believe.
@john17v17 Sin should always weigh heavy on the conscience, because although it's been payed for through the blood of Yeshua, anyone who sins should be ashamed of themselves, because even though they know why our Lord died, they take advantage of it. That is the main problem with traditionalists, is that you feel that universalists and annihilationists galavant around with a clear conscience and a free will based on "it's okay to sin". I am an annihilationist, and that is not my mindset.
@MarkToTheSky You misrepresent me. I didn't say that universalists & annihilationists think it's ok to sin. Universalism & annihilationism are wrong, but that's a different point I've already made.
You have used what you yourself described as 'foul language' about me, & you defended doing so, whilst at the same time you rebuked me for 'the way I talk to my brothers'.
..because we both believe that God came to earth, in the form of his son Yeshua, to die for our sins, and to save us. That is central to both our belief systems, it is single handedly the most important aspect of our belief system. We may differ in what we've been saved from, you may say hell, I may say ourselves and our own natural wickedness, but we both believe we needed salvation more than anything, and God granted it to us. So tell me, how am I a heretic?
@MarkToTheSky Tell you what, if you can't make a case from the Bible to explain why I am wrong, just resort to abusive name calling, that will win the argument.
@Ridikai But there's more to gospel faithfulness than merely telling people 'Jesus is the way'. What does someone mean by that? Their explanation of that will make all the difference as to whether they are true believers or not. Read Bell's 'Velvet Elvis', watch Nooma vids like 'Bullhorn' and 'Dust', note RB's utterly deficient reference to the atonement in 'Everything is Spiritual'...it becomes painfully obvious that RB's understanding of what 'Jesus is the way' means is hopelessly off track.
When Bell uses the illustration of the guy in his congregation committing adultery, he says that the real consequences are here and now - ruining his life, his kids, etc. Bell then says that as to "later", meaning the afterlife ..."who knows what happens then?"
That's my problem with Bell. We don't have to wonder "who knows?" Scripture clearly states that adulterers who don't repent go to hell. No ambiguity, period. But Bell just discounts Scripture entirely. Why?
@patty7beth Why? well the answers simple, that approach has led no one to repentance through love, only a repentance through fear, which isnt repentance at all. The reason Rob Bell doesn't use fear mongering because his use of the gospel is intelligent, and his insight comes from his heart, and that is why they (you) can't understand him. Their (yours) approach is intellectual, it is to understand the gospel, Robs approach is to see through spiritual eyes the resurrectionof Christ in the HereNow
@patty7beth I have the same problem with Rob Bell - he teaches doctrines which contradict Scripture. As to why people do this, I think Jesus tells us in John 8.47. In debating with the unbelieving jews, he said this: "Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” RB has been teaching all kinds of Bible-denying ideas on gospel-essential issues for years, including on the atonement, faith, conversion, judgement, etc. The man's a heretic
"But Bell just discounts Scripture entirely. Why?" Well, the reason is that he is not following the Jesus of the Bible but a counterfeit Jesus who is telling him all these lies. His involvement with New Age practices such as yoga has opened him up to demonic influences (1 Tim 4:1)
@patty7beth The gospel also says that, There is no need to repent, there is know way to fix yourself, that is why he sent jesus, we do not represent ourselves, WE AS HUMANS ARE REPRESENTED THROUGH JESUS. you are not judged based on your actions, but accepted for being perfect, because jesus was "perfect".

@patty7beth
