A little tip guys, When using the router go all the way around about 5mm away from the line and then go around again to the line. The router will be doing less work and easier to handle, so more precise and less chance of chipping.
Where was this when used the rotary to cut the whole pattern used about a 20 wheels . for what I spent on cutting wheels i could have bought a jig saw. Then after cutting my hole i found out the 250 mm fan was not what I wanted . Now I could post a tutoral what I did to plug the hole.good job guys
Yeah I prefer a jig saw to rotary tool on appropriate cuts. You do end up eating a bunch of wheels for anything substantial. Cool, post up ur tutorial, I'd love to see it!
cool... i absolutely love the halo trilogy gameplay and story line. it was fantastic so you're efforts were not in vain! did you do just the number 3 or "halo 3"? Would love to see your attempt at it
Lol, that was supposed to be "red" acrylic from Performance-Pcs(dot)com. It turned out to look pink. But all is well, it went to his little niece anyways. Yeah the apple an inside joke between drumboog and his brother.
great work. Dremmel is super tool, but more powerful router is required for this purpose. Once I made something similar and I made my own small router table with router from bottom which was attached up side down.
thanks for the comment... yeah we're trying to see what is a "worth it" mod and how long they take. wait, what am i saying? if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing :)
Yeah, thinking about it some more, and U-channel will cause you to have to trim the acrylic again, and without a hard template, you'll have the possibility of human error.
Clear epoxy, will probably be more noticeable than the small area's that need repair.
IMO, I would use the wood template and a router. You would have to re cut the acrylic again, but I think you would get a perfect fit.having a template to guide your bit would leave less room for human error. trying to follow that line is hard.
I think that's the best option too... from what Glen said the acrylic felt like it had little pockets in it where the bit would want to wander more (like a knot in wood). So trying to follow that line without a guide just won't yield the results you're looking for. A template with a full size router is brilliant!
That is an awesome vid, this is the kind of stuff that I enjoy. not enough starz allowed so you'll have to settle on 5
1. I was thinking u-channel also, you can buy real small u-channel at performance PC, it would help hide the errors.
2.Then I was thinking about, what if you cut out a wooden template first, keep adjusting the wooden template until it's perfect, then use dlb sided tape to hold to the wood to the acrylic, then use a standard router.
Thanks Lazyman! Dude you're a huge container of knowledge and suggestions. The template idea is prime with a standard router. U-channel would need some clearance and would require some more cutting... and I think we would turn the epoxy into mess.
LOL.. good question. The "Apple" logo is kind of an inside joke between him and his brother (he's giving it to his niece and nephew). It was also a chance to practice on a shape that wasn't a square or straight lines.
is there any other way to attack the windows without screws

Yeah the bolts killed it. Otherwise it didn't look too bad 3M tape 4010 will do the trick.

The bolts make it look kinda weird tho guys,
you should have use some sort of strong glue.

3m without Screws!
rodolfinho87 2 years ago
3M tape would have been easier! I'm going for a machined look and that's why I chose the socket head screws.

Thanks for the suggestion! Have you done this before and does it "melt" the acrylic? We'll try it out to see what the effect is. Thanks again Jason!

Thanks Bro, I hope my suggestions have been of some help. nevergive7 had a great suggestion too.
Do you have a router with a Pattern Flush Trim Router Bit ( I think thats what its called) not sure would have to do some research on that.
