Melinda was a "miracle". She looks so sweet and humble off stage, but when she was up there she's like a whole different person. She knows how to rock the audience while still looking at the camera.
Idol nowadays sell "inspiring stories" but the performances are boring. The contestants barely move (depending on guitar/piano much?) and it's like they are "forced to find the camera". Very stiff!
this was the first show of season 6-and this performance is better than anything from season 9. This is how you work the stage,the judges and the audience!

the difference between season 6 and all the others you mentioned is that in season six, melinda was better than BOTH of the people in the final. Kimberly and Clay would have been the final in season two for example, syesha and archie in 7 lambert and gokey in 8. but all the people you mentioned still wouldn't have won.

She is not a star in the making - she seems to have just dropped from heaven - a singer in all perfection. idol just started to suck after the fifth season. there were a couple of good ones...like melinda, but i really didn't find anything special special with the past 3 seasons. i am not an AI fan anymore. and david cook wouldn't have even made the top 5 if he was in this batch.....he was lucky last season was a total failure and that nobody didn't have a talent melinda possessed last season...

Clay Aiken's album is quite successful... Especially in Asia... I do liked his voice when he's singing "Proud of your boy"... You could find it in Youtube...

Did Simon forget about this performance when he told the other 23 contestants they might as well pack their bags after Lakisha Jones' performance (And I'm Telling You)? Lakisha was awesome that night....but come on Simon....Melinda never took a backseat to anyone on AI season 6. She's perhaps the best contestant ever. But I would have liked to have seen more of Frenchy Davis too though. I can't think of anyone who's shown Melinda's range as yet.

Does anyone know if she is any closer to an album. So strange that she/record producers did not strike while the iron was hot(so crucial for Idol stars since a short 7 months later, everyone tuning in to the next season). She absolutely was the best vocalist of of AI Season 6, next came Paris Bennet(so amazing), Phil Stacey tied with Blake Lewis. Jordin is adorable and talented but she didn't strike me as the best performer/vocalist. Wish them all the very best for sure.

No, it's Aretha Franklin's. I didn't see this performance the night that she sang it, but I looked on another site which listed the contestants' song choices. And when I saw "Since You've Been Gone" for Melinda I was like...WHAT!?! :D She tore this song up
so true- she worked the audience (as always) and everybody can't sing Aretha. that last note was indeed the cherry on top. Melinda delivered EVERY week, and she was genuine.
I'm kinda glad she didn't win. She would have been overexposed and under the yoke of AI management, singing what they wanted her to sing. Now, everyone knows her as the singer who SHOULD have won. From what I understand she signed with a small label so she could do exactly the kind of music she wants to. Smart woman...she'll have a lengthy career if she wants one. So looking forward to her CD and would love to see our next "Soul Diva" on tour. Hope she does some throwback classic soul too.

I have to believe that the AI band and backup singers gave that little "extra" for Melinda during AI6. Watching this video and her "I've Got Rhythm" performance, the band tore the house down for her! Great performances!

From this performance onward, until she was voted off that is - I knew none of them could aproach her vocally - she is the best AI has EVER had - ever. Kelly C is good and Fantasia is good but Melinda is great.
Kelly Clarkson has a bigger range. It's difficult to compare the different styles of the two of them.
Honestly, I think Clarkson's Grammies speak for themselves. One of the highest selling female artists ever. She's the original, and in my opinion, best American Idol ever.
I understand that Clarkson has AMAZING vocals, and is DEFINITELY one of the best AI winners. However, she's not QUITE the best vocalist ever. I think it would be REALLY close between Melinda and Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson OBVIOUSLY has the more powerful voice, but I think Melinda's control is much better. It's a toss up.
Melinda's take on an Aretha Franklin song, flawless delivery ! Every word is understandable, very controlled vocals, Performance value is awesome, It's still weird to me that Jordin won over her! Still bitter here!

I disagree, Lakisha may have went for the most long notes and vocal gymnastics but her pitch wasn't always spot on. Melinda's performance for me was the best of the night.

Did Simon forget about this performance when he told the other 23 contestants they might as well pack their bags after Lakisha Jones' performance (And I'm Telling You)? Lakisha was awesome that night....but come on Simon....Melinda never took a backseat to anyone on AI season 6. She's perhaps the best contestant ever. But I would have liked to have seen more of Frenchy Davis too though. I can't think of anyone who's shown Melinda's range as yet.

Does anyone know if she is any closer to an album. So strange that she/record producers did not strike while the iron was hot(so crucial for Idol stars since a short 7 months later, everyone tuning in to the next season). She absolutely was the best vocalist of of AI Season 6, next came Paris Bennet(so amazing), Phil Stacey tied with Blake Lewis. Jordin is adorable and talented but she didn't strike me as the best performer/vocalist. Wish them all the very best for sure.

Her album will be out this summer! She signed with a small label,so she could do exactly what she wanted. She's also working on a x-mas album that will be out this year! :)

No, it's Aretha Franklin's. I didn't see this performance the night that she sang it, but I looked on another site which listed the contestants' song choices. And when I saw "Since You've Been Gone" for Melinda I was like...WHAT!?! :D She tore this song up

I'm kinda glad she didn't win. She would have been overexposed and under the yoke of AI management, singing what they wanted her to sing. Now, everyone knows her as the singer who SHOULD have won. From what I understand she signed with a small label so she could do exactly the kind of music she wants to. Smart woman...she'll have a lengthy career if she wants one. So looking forward to her CD and would love to see our next "Soul Diva" on tour. Hope she does some throwback classic soul too.

I have to believe that the AI band and backup singers gave that little "extra" for Melinda during AI6. Watching this video and her "I've Got Rhythm" performance, the band tore the house down for her! Great performances!

From this performance onward, until she was voted off that is - I knew none of them could aproach her vocally - she is the best AI has EVER had - ever. Kelly C is good and Fantasia is good but Melinda is great.

Kelly Clarkson has a bigger range. It's difficult to compare the different styles of the two of them.
Honestly, I think Clarkson's Grammies speak for themselves. One of the highest selling female artists ever. She's the original, and in my opinion, best American Idol ever.

I understand that Clarkson has AMAZING vocals, and is DEFINITELY one of the best AI winners. However, she's not QUITE the best vocalist ever. I think it would be REALLY close between Melinda and Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson OBVIOUSLY has the more powerful voice, but I think Melinda's control is much better. It's a toss up.

Secondly, I see you know nothing about soul music since you dont even know that Aretha Franklin is the original singer and this is a fairly popular soul song.
