what are the diffident types of Ballast i have a pretty old one and i want to see if it works it heavy about 9 inch by 2 inch by 2 inch i can do a vid thanks
because electronic ballasts are unreliable crap. I am an electrician by trade i get a LOT LOT less problems with switch start (preheat) than i do electronic
@dieselducy hi, today i got a fixture that was sitting in my garage for 6 years, i took it cleaned it and took everything apart, i put it back together and it worked by the diagram on the ballast. i feel the spot where the ballast is and it is kinda hot is this ok? and i am expecting to do many upgrades with it in the future, and i am only 10 and this is my first 120 volt project i have done. and also i put a cord. all by my self.

Yeah why would you change an electronic to a magnetic ballast.
Electronic ballasts are much better, instant on, no hum, no flickering lights.

Why wouldn't you want instant start electronic ballasts? I guess its because some people enjoy hearing the clicking of the starters?

The fixture I took the ballast from had a crack in it so it was basically a parts fixture.
