  • go james go!!!!!

  • This is DT at their best. James kicked major ass with the vox. Must have completely recovered from the sounds of this and the new stuff.

  • I like watching DT's performances in 30p (this one included). the 24p frame rate they used in the budokan dvd kinda took the "live" vibe out of it

  • La Brie sounds amazing on this performance

  • 5:00

    Go Portnoy!

  • 3:30 <3

    I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND

  • 1:44

  • I think this one is one of the best of them.

    so fuckin beautiful melody

  • i keep on dreaming about mike portnoy's set

    it is sooo SWEET

  • I love the letter of this song. In fact, Dream Theater has a lot of beautiful letters.

  • i agree!! But dont you mean Lyrics? =P

  • Ha ha! You´re right! I mean "lyrics"

  • Someone commented on this video, I don't know how, but they said something similar to Rudess trying to get this one keyboard(it's piano but he's using a keyboard whaterever) part in the beginning like he's trying to get to it. I forget who is was, but everytime I watch this video I think of that comment lol. I LOVE DREAM THEATER

  • This has to be there most powerful album next to Octavarium.

  • your forgeting scenes from a memory, damm powerfull album too

  • Never could really get into this band but this is just insanely epic. Consider me a fan :)

  • They must be one hell of an Orchestra if they can keep up with DT for a 42 minute epic like this

  • actually any orchestra should be able to follow anything of DT or any other rock band, as rock music is totally recycled barok and classic music.

  • Espectacular !!!!!!

  • holy shit Dream Theater with an orchestra, so epic. That's the way their music was meant to be.

  • Yeah, but the orchestra is making the sound sound plain when the DT audio engineers make it a sound "explosion" with more "color"

  • gotta love that fuckin song!

  • che terroni

  • man i expected a better drum part on this song, i love portnoy but he could do way better on this song, still a great song tho

  • i respect a drummer more if they lay back on the drums on a more laid back song rather than going crazy while the rest of the band members are laid back. just my opinion though.

  • It is not about the speed or solo's... just enjoy ;)

  • I really want to see these guys live!

  • Dream theater ftw!

  • 4:36 = one of the most beautiful guitar solos I have ever heard, I don't even know how he can get that much sustain out of that guitar

  • Gotta love that intro... So beautiful.

  • Nice try. Keep it up check out esteembpo + com for social media marketing. vnkcxv

  • rudess ftw

  • At 0:10 Jordan is like..."Oh fuckin hands, I told them they have to do the hole arpeggio...Im gona check my brain, I think is overloaded xD xD

  • I've seen Labrie Live a lot of times. Never failed.

  • What? That guy is on fire... Check the new covers.

He wasnt great at all in "Chaos in Motion" dvd, but he is really great in overall, besides, being a singer is more demanding than drumming or others in terms of "Live performance". My point here is that, i think, its difficult to tell if Portnoy misses a hit or something, but if Labrie makes a mistake, everybody tells.

  • Yeah, hes really awesome! Wouldnt underrestimate the drums difficulty, as you would probably notice, its extremely complicated time signature wise, which makes it very hard to recover if you play something wrong xD Generally the same for all intruments in DT..omg they rock! xD

  • Excuse me RandomDrummer, my comment did sound like underrestimating the drumming technique a bit, as you can tell, im not one xD

Still, that was not my intention pal, and im sure you know it.

PS: I wanna see them perform live again in my country. :)

  • Yeah, didnt take it, if as you did ^^ And yeah I feel the same way, seeing them in September! =D

  • Imagine if all of SDOIT was on GH/RB.

You would attempt to Fc it, and during the last section, you miss a note. THen you hav to start the whole song over! lol

  • yeah but its ok cuz its SO FUCKING GOOD. even if i FCed it i'd replay it....over and over again

  • First time that i hear this band. and i fall in love with them! the are grate

  • THIS is what a rock band with orchestra should sound like! It took Dream Theater to show the world how it's done. Metallica's attempt at this kind of thing fell flat. They hired Michael Kamen. And his compositions didn't seem to fit the songs. At times it felt like two different pieces of music playing at the same time. But this actually works. Dream Theater's music is epic and ...well, theatrical enough to incorporate an orchestra. Metallica sounds better raw and furious. Just my opinion.

  • I thought the S and M preformance was good.....

  • Well, I liked it too.... at the time. I just thought it wasn't as focused an effort as this performance. Perhaps It's because Michael Kamen scored movies. Maybe he was used to a certain style of composing that just didn't work for a metal band. Also, Dream Theater isn't just a "metal" band. Their songs are more complex compositions than Metallica (no disrespect to them). So the composer doesn't run the risk of making the music too busy. This just fits. Once again, just my opinion. Peace.

  • This is such an epic piece of music. Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus can never write a song about Bipolar Disorder or Stem Cell Research (The Great Debate), just to name 2.

This is what I call music. Rate this down and it will just further justify this point.

  • james you're a god

  • He missed a note at the beginning ^^ only mistake i ever found by Rudess.

    Love tha band.

  • hahah everyone has those flubs. its just amazing that Jordan only missed ONE note. Petrucci was perfect, Myung was perfect, Portnoy was perfect.

  • Yah ^^

  • This song is the story of my life.. <3

  • 1:41

Lol Portnoys singin along and I love them symbol hits xD

  • 1:33 Portnoy looks soo happy playing this song......see it's not only about writing long epic songs, but wanting to play it live as well

  • My girlfriend suffers from bipolar disorder :)

Dream Theater got it exactly right to be honest, what they are singing.

    I hardly notice though ^^

  • lol portnoy at 5:02

  • The band is so kickass. Rudess, kick ass keyboardist. Petrucci one of the best guitarists. Myung is the best bass player alive, and Portnoy may be the best drummer. Labrie has the perfect voice for the style and it's amazing.

  • love the keyboard solo in the beginning. rudess u rock

  • omg josh

  • omg mayone

  • the best album with metropolis scene froma memory

  • this is my favorite dream theater disc , a master piece

  • Love this song, i love every song of this album, six songs, six degrees of inner turbulence, Masters forever... best band ever, Perfect song, god bless you... DREAM THEATER: LIVING GODS

  • 1 song, eight movements...

    ..on disc 2.

Even if you were right, you were still wrong.

  • hey i mean the whole album, i know that, however they are SIX songs, and they aren´t movements, are chapters.

  • fuck you motherfucking snowchick, you dont know what your talkin about, hes not fat, and hes a magnificant singer, so go and write your shit somewhere else!!!

  • amazing solo. the best (=

  • that was one of the most beautiful songz i ever heard.

  • i l o v e y o u ~

  • at 1:56. you could notice that eyeballs are reeking at John Myung.. dissing Petrucci. lol.

  • LOL check out MP at 5:02 ^^

  • he almost didn't catch it. XD

  • grandiiiiii

  • You know you're an amazing band when you have your own orchestra. Especially one THAT good =P

  • this reminds me of me and my best friend lol XD

  • oh? in what way? u do know what this song talks about dont u?

  • sort of

  • its about a girl with a bi-polar dissorder and about how this guy helps her and stands about her when she goes trough the depression, the song also talks about her maniac episodes. Thats why i found your comment kinda weird, if you get my point

  • i know its weird but in a weird way my friend and i (yes its a she ) we bot have a little of a bipolar dissorder so technichally the song could apply to both of us

    anyways i love this song

  • yay i love it too :D

  • lol XD thats good XD

  • this is goood stuuuf

  • Awesome and inspiring. This is one of the best goups you've never heard.

  • Definitely my favorite... section (?) of Six Degrees.

What do they call each part of this song? Since technically Six Degrees is the song, is each section a movement? Or does everybody just say they're songs?

  • They call em movements.

  • movements of one big song

  • WTF?.. Post your better version on YT or shut the hell up you no singin bitch. These guys are legends are you're just some lippie idiot that can't even begin to grasp the sheer talent of every member of this band. Get up and sing in front of thousands of people and show us what a great performer you are.

  • QFTW! some people are just plain ignorant

  • wow, dream theater is so incredible live! this is the most beautiful kind of music ever!

  • Six degrees is the sh*t

  • best song from 6 degrees

  • this is my theme song, i'm also have a bipolar disorder!

  • the piano opening is so amazing!!!!

  • Dream Theater is so awesome live.

Look at Portnoy at 5:05 lol

  • 5:00 sorry

  • i like portnoy´s shirt LOL

    DT FOR THE WIN!

  • That solo is so amazing...ugh....

  • I would love to see them make another album just like Disc 2 of 6 degrees. This is what they do best.

  • am i the only one who thought James sung beatifuly in this

  • nope! im a big fan of Labrie as well as DT

  • Agreed

  • I love the piano solo in the 1st part!!!

    So melodic

  • I know aye! i always wanted to learn it but i should take some lessons before attempting :P

  • Masterpiece. Love this song.

  • one of my favorites solos..

    it's so insidetouching...

  • Portnoy does the "stick catching" almost every show. It's not accidental, as most think. Actually, not to hard as well, but take some time mastering. When you're about to hit, put all your force on the stick but also lose the grip on it. The plate you hit will go back at a very high speed, putting the stick to the sky.

  • I thought it was a trick indeed but thanks for explaining how,

    Sharkie

  • Hehe, the stick at 5.03 :D

  • Microphone throw at 1:43. EPIC.

  • For Anyone that wants them, here's the Six Disorders they talk about in this song:

Part II. About To Crash - Bipolar Disorder

Part III. War Inside My Head - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Part IV. The Test That Stumped Them All - Schizophrenia(IS NOT SPLIT PERSONALITIES!!!)

Part V. Goodnight Kiss - Post Partum Depression

Part VI. Solitary Shell - Autism

Part VIII. Losing Time - Dissociative Identity Disorder

  • Cool, I didn't know that.

  • yeah neither did I...:D pretty interesting...

  • Your right one other thing the title means this

Deception of fame — Degree 3: The Test That Stumped Them All

Vengeance of war — Degree 2: War Inside My Head

Lives torn apart — Degree 4: Goodnight Kiss

Losing oneself — Degree 6: Losing Time

Spiraling down — Degree 1: About To Crash/About to Crash (Reprise)

Feeling the walls closing in — Degree 5: Solitary Shell

  • Awesome!!!!

  • 0:23 is wooow

  • Lol at 5:02 when Portnoy has to catch his drumstick

  • Eh, make that 5:00 actually, so you can see him hit the drum. :) I'm pretty sure it wasn't deliberate.

  • But he looked so cool that i think he meant to do this

  • Yeah, he looked like a god among mere drummers when he did it.

  • Of course it was he always does that

  • he does that a lot live, i think it was purposeful.

  • hey do you know how he does that?

  • nah Im a guitarist, but in my opinion it looks like he hits the stick pretty hard and just lets it go.

  • This album is so unbelievably beautifully written. My favourite DT album. DT Forever!

  • this song is amazing

  • I fucking love this band/song. Dream Theater forever.

  • POLPETTONE!!!!!

  • Singing at 2:42 :3 .. Much to her advantage she resume the frantic pace! Epic..

  • 4:34 Have you heard that solo? OMG

  • Beautiful.

It's musicians like Petrucci (spelling?) that make me want to kill the Jonas Brothers.

  • That part is stunning, a complete flow of emotions for me

  • 4:34 pure feeling

  • It doesn't matter if dream theater wasn't the first band who use a symphony,,but it's great!!!!!!

    The Portnoy's T-shirt is awesome

  • THE Portnoy? :D

  • hahahahah ;)

  • the whole Score is unbelievable... amazing.. just 5 gods on stage

  • everybody there died and revived 01294109257.12341235 times over

  • Oh, what a nice typo.

  • that was awesome at 5:02

  • This song is absolutely beautiful.

  • is this about Hil-dog?

  • what?

  • Um....Metallica one of the first metal bands to use a symphony? ..........O.k, if you say so.... XD

  • Nono... there was the Led Zeppelin in Kashmir

  • i want the Portnoy shirt's^^ :)

  • jordans face when he misses a note, heh..

  • Its because he's a robot. That facial expression is his way of saying "Does not compute"

    :D

  • dude where was that?

  • NYC, home of DT;)

  • Well I knew where this DVD was from. I was just responding to someone else's post and forgot what it was. Lol.

  • I think it was at Radio City Music hall

  • Labries from Canada.

  • Two years ago, I thought I would never like Metal, but now... I found myself in this song, it`s full of some positive spirit somehow, no matter of txt...

  • Its a risky move for a rock band to play with an orchestra. Metallica=epic fail with orchestra. Dream theater pulled it off perfectly, probably because they are such great musicians.

  • Eh, I didn't think S&M was that bad.

  • S&M was great, what cd did you listen to? The song choice wasn't great, but still it worked out great. btw off topic, but what is this song about?

  • Well, the entire Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is about different types of mental disorders and how people must recognize and sympathize with them.

This particular song, About to Crash, is about Bipolar disorder. In short, someone goes through manic episodes then "crashes" into depression shortly after. In other words, this girl Labrie is singing about has two personalities.

  • At least Metallica had the gall to be among the firsts to try it. It works better with Dream Theater because they are more melodic and varied in the first place than Metallica.

  • Deep Purple did id 1969

  • It seems like time literally stops when that solo starts

  • It does, Petrucci makes the whole world time-warp!

  • petrucci's guitar at 4:36-5:20 sooooo fucking tasty.

  • Don't know why but I Fucking love this song:P

  • How do u do that trick that mike portnoy does in 5:01?

whats it called? so I can look for it on youtube or ask my teacher

  • just ask about stick tricks
