@dechm4af He didnt say he could land a plane, It was a rough landing, its was apperantly to fast. You dont have to be a pilot to know that. But kudos to the pilot for safely getting it on the ground and getting them to their gate.
@horsemoney Because the MD-95 was the superior product for it's range and capacity. Better efficiency, better performance. Boeing killed it, because they saw the potential the MD-95's, and MD-90's, had.
@samuelts Boeing stopped producing the 717 because the airlines didn't want them. After 9/11, a lot of airlines went into the red, and thus the orders for the 717 fell through the floor. So, Boeing made a deal with Air Tran to produce the last batch of the 717s for them, including the airframes that other airlines ordered but didn't want. While it is a popular plane with Air Tran, it does its job rather well, and since it's so small, it's not able to do the job that the 737 does.
@trent8002003 Airbus was practically liquidating the A320's at the time.. that's why they didn't go for the 737NG. For NW, the MD-95 (the 717-200's true name..) might not have worked out in comparison to either the 737NG's or the A320's because it was just that, the MD-95. It wasn't a part of a true family of aircraft (i.e. -600,-500,-700,-800-900), making it a niche product. It worked just fine for FL who concentrates mostly in the Northeastern regions of the US.
what a bad landing, the plane bounced back into the air

They didn't buy them because Boeing only agreed to make X amount. After that the 717 was done...

@samuelts I didn't know that, I was wondering why the 717 was so popular.

Why didn't Northwest buy the 717s? Would have ensured many more beautiful hi-tails for us to see. The A320s are so much less handsome than the 717s.
