If you don't want to fucking vote, don't fucking vote. Fuck whatever stupid commercials say. It's ironic that this commercial to make your own statement is requesting exactly the opposite of that...
The point of this commercial was to inform U.S. citizens who reside abroad that they can vote. Believe it or not, many U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. are not aware that they can continue to vote in federal elections according to their last residence in the U.S. Others may not know that they need to register and request their ballots using the Federal Post Card Application form. It is only when people know their rights that the decision to vote or not becomes a real choice.

Also, if you want to talk about "trashing" one's country, then maybe you should understand the US enough not conflate free expression of controversial views with renunciation of citizenship.

Canada is not America (meaning the United States) in the context of this video, which is intended for U.S. citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Of course Canada, and the rest of the continent IS America. The problem is that the U.S. have no given name to designate the people born in this country in English, unlike the rest of countries in the continent.
Of course, people of the US have names to designate them in other languages, as in Spanish (estadounidenses), so there's no problem here.
Thank you for this explanation it definately make sense and i never viewed it that way! Its completely obvious too, thnak you for clearing it up for me
This Country USA is where "Americans are born. That's the designation. Technically the word "America" originated from Europe. It's amusing certain people say the United States stole Mexico. Names "California", "San Francisco", San Diego" all Spanish names, places originally "stolen" by Spanish. There wasn't always a Venezuela, or a Costa Rica, or a Mexico either. Those places were stolen and renamed by Spaniards. Technically this entire hemisphere was "stolen" by the French, British, and Espana.
Sophia, don't you think you're off topic? We're speaking of designations, not of stealing. America was the first designation for the entire continent, not only the US, because Americo Vespuccio was the first European to map the continent, even before the US existed as a country. And yes, you're right that the whole continent was stealed by Europeans settled there!!! But that's another discussion, I think.
tomasrvigo, I think we agree. I was replying to the designation to people born in the U.S. which is "Americans." Unless we should start calling ourselves "United State-ians." I'm aware of Latino sensitivity on this issue regarding overall hemisphere versus country (U.S.A.). I've had polite conversations with Latinos on this exact issue. When someone from Venezuela is asked about nationality they proudly say "Venezuelan," and people from the U.S. say "American." It's not meant to offend Latinos.
Sophia, we agree in the basic, and for your knowledge, I proudly say "I'm American" when I'm asked in English, but "soy estadounidense", when asked in Spanish -avoiding "americano". And trust me, it's not only Latino sensitivity, but an issue in the rest of the world (at least, here in Europe it is).
Most of these posts reach the point of ugly insults and profanity. Believe me I understand why Americans aren't winning any popularity contest around the world these days. It was a nice change to have a civil exchange. Thanks
Thanks to you Sophia! Always should be this way! I absolutely agree with you that most of these posts reach that ugly point, and I hate them because they don't give nothing positive to us readers. Thanks again and best regards, Tom
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obama indeed seems to be offering a people's government solution to all human problems. He is, after all, running for President of the United States, not for a pulpit. Substituting the state for God as provider has been the inherent common thread in all Marxist regimes.
If Obama pick h clinton for vp he would win, but everyone i talked to doctors bussiness men and women says they dont want to vote for anyone now,, myself included.. the dems made a big mistake
This is the first time that a significant number of my liberal friends have decided in the last couple weeks to vote Republican for the first time in their lives.....
I would like to thank the mentally ill Gwyneth Paltrow for educating us. Maybe one of these candidates will enact a health care policy to enable Gwyneth to get her anti-psychotics for free.
Thanks for the information! That's 4 people in my family that will be voting REPUBLICAN! MCCAIN/PALIN will make history! Thanks again for the info!!!!
Americans, please register to vote, then do the research and make an informed decision this November. I am in favor of Obama and I hope you are too, but whatever your decision, you must first be registered. My name is Mike and I approved this message.
oh ho ho ho ho osama and obama thay were bro's both wear fro's dee dee dee we need our own oil health care like other countrys 'cause some fat fucker smokin a cigar wt your tax bucks and the drug thing we have ibogain/ayahusca to treat addict but we dont use them we need foke injailed to make money frm them judges lawers cops ,just who can we vote for ,hum how about we move to amsterdam an be free 'cause right now were not so who do you vote for we have no choice were not free at all !!!
To all the posters who think that one party or the other will serve you better. Wake up. The bankers have owned both parties long before you were born. The stuff you call politics is more like pro wrestling. Mostly fake. But you sheep keep eating it up. You're not going to get a candidate who isn't a member of a secret society. left/right, good cop/bad cop, whatever.
This video has an important message, and I hope that all Americans, especially those living overseas, will watch it. We take the right to vote for granted, but it is a right that we must exercise if we are serious about caring about our country and the people who live in it. Living abroad gives us another perspective on the role and image of the US in the world. Therefore we must exercise our right to vote for the President, who determines to a great extent the role the US plays in the world.
I agree that the system should be overhauled: one person one vote, not electoral delegates per state. But not voting because you don't agree with the system is an abdication of responsibility. Never in my lifetime have we had a clearer choice. Our Supreme Court-thus justice in this country-will be influenced for years to come. Healthcare is another issue I'm passionate about. Search Youtube under:
it would be nice if those that support Obama would research the bill that he wrote called the "Global Poverty Act" in that bill there is wording that would put the USA under UN control as far as small arms ownership by the U.N. and they will outlaw our Second Amendment. READ before you vote and stop crying racism.
PLEASE ONLY VOTE, If you know what you're voting for, don't be stupid and vote because your parents or friends told you to vote for "Person" get educated, then vote.
So if anyone can vote from anywhere, does this mean that US citizens can vote from their home within US borders via computer? Yeah I didn't think so, why not? Are foreign computers more secure than ours? Then why can't we vote online using Social security #'s and to make sure our vote actually counted we could look up our SS # and it would have the name of the candidate next to our SS #. Then no more arguments about stealing elections. Although they are stolen well before the general election
As far as I know, no US state allows you to vote by computer. But I think the video means that you can register to vote and to request a ballot by mail if you have a computer and internet access. I did it and it took me 5 minutes to fill out the form. I'M VOTING FROM GERMANY. Are you voting in November?
I'll start voting as soon as the Democratic and Republican parties start adhering to state and federal laws during the nomination process. Until then we are given two choices that are hand picked, not by the people, by each party. Then both parties deny any third party members the opportunity to even join the debates leading into the election. Not very Democratic if you ask me. Why can't we vote on line using SS# that can be checked online for accuracy. We have the technological capability.
Do you really believe that? I hope you forget to vote in November. Or maybe your doctor can fine tune your medication by then. Any other good conspiracies that you should enlighten us about? Maybe Obama will give Texas back to Mexico? Please check your facts before you embarrass yourself.
It's not the fact that voting is complicated that bothers me. It's the fact that people think it is good thing to pick up poms poms and act like a bunch of ignorant cheerleaders in support of an election system that is rigged. It has always been rigged. It will always be rigged.
42 of our 43 former presidents are related by blood. You call that a democracy. Sure as hell sounds a lot like feudalism to me. But what do I know? I'm just a "crazy conspiracy theorist." LOL! Democracy? What a joke
aLTec87- You are a grade A idiot. The electoral college system was set up to give people from lower population areas a fair say in the election. They did this so the large metro areas would not decide the election on their own.
I understand what your saying, but the decision of who should be president should go directly to the vote of the people. And that means every person. I don't care if the person lives in the middle of no where, or in New York. And you think we have a fair say now? through the electoral college system? It should be the peoples decision.
Our votes don't matter. I remember Al'gore won the popular votes but Bush became president? What the heck is that supposed to mean? It means that our votes don't mean anything. Why waste your time voting. The U.S. government is a corrupt system. I bet you if Obama won the popular vote, and McCain became president through "electoral votes", I wouldn't be surprised. Don't waste your time voting, it dosen't mean anything, even though the media still makes it seem like it does.
The Electoral College is the term used to refer to those who officially elect the President and Vice President of the United States.
The Electoral College is composed of 538 electors.
So vote all you want, these 538 are the ones that elect our president.
you people really think Obama and McCain is out campaigning to the people of the country. No! That's the smoke to make you think you really have a part in it all.
Voting does mean something, and some elections are won by just a couple of hundred votes. Let's hope that enough people are voting for Democrats -- not just for President, but for the House and Senate races.
Maybe we should all become democrats. We can then change the tax bracket to 100%. We can send all of our money to Obama and let him decide how much we should get to "be fair."
Oh wait, if we were all democrats, who would work and pay the taxes. Hmmmm
e-voting machines have rigged the elections since the 80's. thats why weve had CIA-dick Bush, Coke-mule Clinton, Dictator W, and soon a NWO/CFR socialist.
why on earth does it matter... a vote is a meaningless voice which makes people think that they matter, when it has become clear that we don't. Even if a vote really does "count", what good is it? You're voice isn't heard, your opinions don't matter, only the one who is elected. And what forms their opinion, the one who has the most money. History shows that all great governments become corrupt, and America has proven no different. Good luck to those who really believe in our system.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for corruption and is considered treason in my book. Plus, if you vote for the winner, you have no right to complain if they actually DO follow through with some of their f*cked up plans. I'm active duty military so my absentee vote doesn't even count unless it's close enough. "51% decide what's best for the other 49%". A true patiot wouldn't vote for either one of these idiots.
That is just the attitude that has allowed the parties to screw up the U.S. There is a clear difference between John McCain and Barrack Obama. The politics of fear has only served to isolate the U.S. A leader who has a hopeful vision for our country and can bring us back the respect in the world is okay in my book.
And with that last comment, I'm out. I refuse to debate with the challenged.
I also like to read comments by people who can type and use correct grammar and spelling (and punctuation), which few of the anti-Obama crowd can.
I also don't feel like trading insults. You're mistaken, whatever you think about me and my voting preferences because I'm a Democrat. So have fun doing whatever it is you do.
You think you have choice? You dont you have owners they own you, me, everything. Including the presidetial canidates. politicians are pulled from a pool of uneducated americans. Most of them couldnnt tell you what the WTO or codex are. I say boycot the vote. Lets send them the message we are not going to participate in a rigged election.
Conservamom verifies my point about illiteracy. First off, madam, I'm not FROM Canada, I'm IN Canada. Only an idiot or a Consie mother... would be unable to tell the difference. I'm as American as you, maybe more so. One of my collateral ancestors was President of the U.S. and I'm probably older than you.
Remember Mark Twain's adage: Better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt.
Want someome to explain that to you in small words?
This video also inadvertantly paint Democrats overseas as a bunch of lazy losers who could give a poop about the election and have to be talked down to like little ignorant kids.
Hear, hear! We aint got a constitution, and look where it,s left us in Big Brother Britain, don,t sleep walk your way into a surveilance society. Use that vote wisely, we did and look who it got us; Gordon Brown! Well at least he can spell his own name.
Your all brain washed. Who are you going to vote for. Obama New World Order or John McCain New World Order. Hey, same god dam thing. Kiss the Constitution Good-bye and good-bye to America. Best thing you could all do, is to not vote. If no-one voted for either, You would get your Country back.
I don't understand we people are so upset about obama,he has played the race straight and still folks don't want to get onboard with him,is there still that big a divide in america about race, what a shame have we have not learned anything yet,and until we learn to live together, nothing is ever going to change and that's what obama is all about change and that scare's alot of old guard.....
Sadly, the last good Republican was probably Abraham Lincoln. Maybe he was the last educated one too, based on the illiterate comments posted here.
Haven't you GOP-ers noticed how screwed up 8 years of GWB has left the country? Sure, Obama's inexperienced, but he's not a puppet, or in the Old Boys' Network's pockets, like GWB.
And you try to make disagreement into treason? Read your frickin' Constitution, boys. Disagreement/disaffection is at the HEART of America. Remember the Boston Tea Party!
You're from Canada for crying out loud with it's Socialist Healthcare and deep self loathing because NOBODY cares about what's going on in Canada. lol
Yeah - it's about as screwed up as Jimmy Carter's presidential term - Look at it this way..... I'd rather spend MY $4 a gallon for gas and deal with it MY WAY - rather than pay less but be "odd/even" rationed and crash the economy.
Jeez - so many naive comments - and - so little history education.
well it was realy only his last year as president that was really screwed up. Plus he has had one of the most successful post white house years in u.s history.
Why do young people take advice from celebrities??? Most celebrities are high school dropouts who basically won the lottery. They are uneducated idiots who don't know what it is like to work hard, yet they think that it is OK to raise the taxes (steal from them to give to the lazy) on hard working small business owners who have made it the hard way.
"I'm voting Democrat" Seriously... What a joke. That is like voting Socialist. Patriotism and Capitalism is what seperates the US from European countries.
With Obama we will take a step in the wrong direction.
What about personal responsibility. Take care of yourself and stop stealing from the hard working successful people. We owe you NOTHING. Get a JOB.
You notice ALL the EX-Americans ARE Dumbocrats! They didn't have the GUTS to stay here and fight for their STUPID ideas, so they get out. Especially the HOLLYWIERD crowd like Madonna, Gwyneth, Etc.
Whats funny is Gwyneth has sorta toned down her ANTI-American rhetoric because she is trying to make a COME back in Hollywierd.
NOW she wants to come back to the US.
Well, surprise, surprise.
NOW us regular Americans are good enough to be in her presence! It's called career and money! lol
staninfrance, stay in France. We don't need you or your vote! Obviously you enjoy the fact that France is losing it's culture thanks to moronic ex-patriots like you.
Besides the fact that McCains program is flawed (like the last 7+ years), have you ever noticed the time it takes for him to actually something said. Its like take a nap time.
Its time for somebody to stand up and speak for America on at-home issues and foreign policy without alienating the Nation or the rest of the world. I'm also living abroad and have access to a lot of soldiers, who are for the majority looking forward to getting out alive as soon as the next tour is over.
I failed to mention that just because it is easy for some of us to do things with computers doesn't mean that's true for everyone.
Have you ever tried to teach a person who had never touched a computer how to operate one? For some people--not as stupid as some of the posters on this site--it is a real challenge.
No, he has a point. Barack will tell you how to run your lives. How to spend your money. What your job should be. But unfortunately, McCain will tell you how to run your sex life. Who you can and can't marry. When you should have sex. He'll tell you, women don't have a choice.
Hey stupid Liberals, IT'S NOT TOO COMPLICATED TO USE A COMPUTER! Remember, you are NOT smart enough! You need to be told. It's the Democratic way. Democrats will help tell you HOW to live your life. VOTE DEMOCRATIC!
Exactly right -- it isn't complicated ANYMORE to register to vote. Used to have to flip through the 400 page voter guide to find your state requirements. Now, it's a whole lot easier because you can go online to fill out the form. So yes, Vote for Dems!
What is this CRAP about having the right to vote! Typical liberal ad uses anti-American Hollywierd actress and combines it with the usual TALKING DOWN to ignorant people to VOTE Dumbocratic! lol
It's really a pity--I have sympathy for you--that you don't realize how ignorant your three posts typify you Ms. Conservamom.
No, I am not French, unless being born in Butte, Montana, makes me French. I live happily in France as a political refugee from the right-wing administrations!
One should do an informational video on absentee ballots in the States. If you are registered in X county in Y state, but in November you are in A county in the state of B, you can't vote. Absentee ballots are crucial within the United States. There are many who are away from their registered districts on election day, but for the failure of our civics classes, don't know how to deal with it. There are deadlines, &c. So educate your friends and children, regardless of party. Educate them.
this has the be the most forceful and demanding ad ive seen in a long long time
and every single person in there is so smug i'd give up my vote just to punch them in the face, ill vote for whoever the fuck i want, and i'll do it from america
blow me, hollywood, im sick of their self-righteous moral superiority bullshit, stick to entertaining us and then shut your mouths
I kind of feel that the Green Party is Democratic Lite (c). They are just a bit better than the Democratic Party but their extreme left communist-like stance on the economy draws people away.

Whatever your politics, here's the point: Obama plans on raising taxes.
He says it's just on "the rich", but this is problematic. Why?
1. There is nothing absolute about the $250k number. It's not fixed to anything. It's arbitrary and therefore movable.
2. Every tax ever put into effect has (A) increased in size and (B) morphed to take money from a greater number of people.
In sum, the $250k line WILL shift downward. It's the nature of taxation.
This is BAD public policy.

Technically this entire hemisphere was "stolen" by the French, British, and Espana.
sophia539 3 years ago
Sophia, don't you think you're off topic? We're speaking of designations, not of stealing. America was the first designation for the entire continent, not only the US, because Americo Vespuccio was the first European to map the continent, even before the US existed as a country. And yes, you're right that the whole continent was stealed by Europeans settled there!!! But that's another discussion, I think.
tomasrvigo 3 years ago
tomasrvigo, I think we agree. When someone from Venezuela is asked about nationality they proudly say "Venezuelan," and people from the U.S. say "American." It's not meant to offend Latinos.
sophia539 3 years ago
Sophia, we agree in the basic, and for your knowledge, I proudly say "I'm American" when I'm asked in English, but "soy estadounidense", when asked in Spanish -avoiding "americano". And trust me, it's not only Latino sensitivity, but an issue in the rest of the world (at least, here in Europe it is).
Best regards, Tom

Obama indeed seems to be offering a people's government solution to all human problems. He is, after all, running for President of the United States, not for a pulpit. Substituting the state for God as provider has been the inherent common thread in all Marxist regimes.

Although they are stolen well before the general election
jjrglobal 3 years ago
As far as I know, no US state allows you to vote by computer. But I think the video means that you can register to vote and to request a ballot by mail if you have a computer and internet access. I did it and it took me 5 minutes to fill out the form. I'M VOTING FROM GERMANY. Are you voting in November?
Patrick45127 3 years ago
I'll start voting as soon as the Democratic and Republican parties start adhering to state and federal laws during the nomination process. Until then we are given two choices that are hand picked, not by the people, by each party. Then both parties deny any third party members the opportunity to even join the debates leading into the election. Not very Democratic if you ask me. Why can't we vote on line using SS# that can be checked online for accuracy. We have the technological capability.
jjrglobal 3 years ago
why do you think Obama wrote a bill to put the USA under U.N. control?
Fockersnextdoor 3 years ago
Do you really believe that? I hope you forget to vote in November. Or maybe your doctor can fine tune your medication by then. Any other good conspiracies that you should enlighten us about? Maybe Obama will give Texas back to Mexico? Please check your facts before you embarrass yourself.
Patrick45127 3 years ago 2

SORRYUSERNAMETAKEN91 3 years ago
I understand what your saying, but the decision of who should be president should go directly to the vote of the people. And that means every person. I don't care if the person lives in the middle of no where, or in New York. And you think we have a fair say now? through the electoral college system? It should be the peoples decision.
aLTeC87 3 years ago
Our votes don't matter. I remember Al'gore won the popular votes but Bush became president? What the heck is that supposed to mean? It means that our votes don't mean anything. Why waste your time voting. The U.S. government is a corrupt system. I bet you if Obama won the popular vote, and McCain became president through "electoral votes", I wouldn't be surprised. Don't waste your time voting, it dosen't mean anything, even though the media still makes it seem like it does.
aLTeC87 3 years ago

We can send all of our money to Obama and let him decide how much we should get to "be fair."

why on earth does it matter... a vote is a meaningless voice which makes people think that they matter, when it has become clear that we don't.
