  • i would not even eat the one. ewwwww.

  • i wouldve sold the marshmallow to one of the other stupid kids to turn a profit and go buy a whole bag of them.

  • If students can wait to reward themselves with Facebook after studying instead of during study, they will gain up to 20 per cent better grades, research shows. Facebook is the new marshmallow. You can test whether you are addicted to Facebook at howtostudymethod

  • lucu

  • i love marshmallows!! but lust to listen to beau1976 on sound cloud

  • This test requires an authority figure. It's not a test of self-control, but obedience and gullibility.

It would be interesting to see the correlation between not eating the marshmallow, and being scammed later.

It bears noting that Western society is based on unsustainable debt, access to cheap foreign energy sources, pollution, and cheap foreign labor. How long will this go on? Not much longer, I think. "Success" in that society is probably not a marker for success generally.

  • I'd like to see how kids perform on this test after watching the Disney cartoon The Grasshopper and the Ants, an excellent lesson in deferred gratification.

  • psychological abuse on kids is a crime. this is criminal.

  • lol.. i remember when i had to do the test... i got my 2 marshmellow ^^

  • And if they say: Wait 15 more minutes and I bring you two more marshmallows???

It will show them how to be a banker??

    Haha

Would be funny to see that!

  • the news lady who was holding the marshmellow is a marshmallow test because she is irresistable most men would probably fail to keep their hands to themselves over this pretty news lady

  • IDIOTS

  • 21 people ate the marshmallow before the researcher got back.

  • @ariwcharles ahahaha

  • @ariwcharles no shut up they didnt

  • if you honestly think about it, the amount of suffering isnt actually worth it too wait. all you get is one extra marshmallow which isnt that much more. Maybe the kids understand the value of convenience

  • @PowerSprinter

I don't think you quite understand...

TWO SWEET MOTHER OF OF ALL THAT IS HOLY GIVEN MARSHMALLOWS as opposed to one Marshmallow of similar quality.

    You're obviously misguided in life.

*This is how kids think essentially*

  • @abbyratsolee , only the kid who disassembled his marshmallow truly knew the quality of the marshmallow. For all the rest knew, it might have been stale. And none of them actually knew that another one was coming.

  • @RuneLancer Psychological imprinting. What we know now is a result of what we learned as children.

We are most prone to comprehend at this age, that is why the experiment was conducted using this age group.

  • teenagers : Either you smoke the weed now, or you get double the dosage 15 minutes later!

  • i mean. it IS twice the amount, but it's ONLY +1 marshmallow. do the experiment starting with two or three, and then tell me the results!

  • joints for hippies!

  • it would be awesome if they do the experient on drug addict.......put like heroin or cocain infront of them to see how they react!!! :)))

  • @dsd313 remember, they are 4...

  • they should use liquor for adults

  • @dsd313 there was a rattle I would have at least touched it

  • genetic plays a role in temperament later in life. awe the kids are so cute lol

  • "but it's not JUST a marshmallow."

  • or.... you come back after 15 minutes and instead of giving them another one, you take away the original marshmallow >:)

  • @twizy123 LOL!!! I wanna see this >xD

  • i don't like marshmallows: but i would still wait to get than second one, JUST to trow at to someone and point and laugh at him/her

(i don't know why but i think its funny)

  • ey what would happin if you eat half?

  • now she hates mashmellows for life.

  • you can eat this marshmallow now... "im going to eat it now" experiment over!

  • this test doesnt really prove alot. All it shows is that the adults in this video dont displine their kids.if they were taught better they would wait. Also just because the kid ate the marshmellow doesnt mean he cant learn patience later on in life it just at moment in their life they dont know better

  • @knucklez92 - You pulled all that BS from a kid eating a marshmallow?

  • @knucklez92

Like the video says, the adults SET THE limit, it's up to the kid to challenge themselves. My parents never really taught me discipline or anything but I would restrain myself with all my might, whatever it was. It was part of my genetics to be self controlled.

In my case, I had to set my own limits and challenge them. My parents were too busy to have anything insightful to teach me

  • Don't fall for it kids! Eat the mallow the first chance you get! Viva la Revolution!

  • Hm... I have a successful career, was good at school... but I would have eaten that marshmellow plus the professors hand in a heartbeat...

  • like a bank . . . use the money now and get no incum later or not use the money and then get incum! hmm

  • did the kid that ae 1/2 of it get another marshmellow??

also, did they record the whole 18 year thing? ( 0:59- 1:02) i wanna see it!!

  • anyone ever watch Hi-jinks? its kinda like this, but its not tests, lol

  • uglyyyyyy

  • That is what Mc Donalds is trying to tell you e-very-days guys :-)))

  • That's why we're all fat! Tell them "No" on one, and then give them two, because they waited. Great philosophy!

  • @22RZE they were told that YES they MAY eat the first one. you missed the point completely!

  • Yay, torturing children how fun :)

  • @777Jamez777 you're an idiot.

  • :42 imma eat this marshmallow now LOL

  • @owned2easy MY MARSHMELLOW GTFO >:{D <-----angry mexican face

  • what if they dont want the second one?!

  • @one985 then they would eat the first one

  • @zezu09 it's the interpretation that i was interested in

  • @Ullbritt

where did that comment come from? i log on to watch a marshmallow and some peanut is talking about aids and blacks,,did i miss something?

  • @stu460 I just calls it like I sees it brother.

  • I'd start haggling for more marshmellows ;)

Give me 5 and only then do you have your deal :P

  • I want to see the kid that says they will wait another 15 minutes to get 4 marshmallows.

  • @danomanion

    WAAAA HAHAHAHAH!!!!!

...another 15 and a Hot Cocoa too

    LOL!

  • this is cool

  • this is amazing how how they did this expernment

  • this test sux rly bad

  • @blind1105 when people type sux the usually suck

  • i would eat the first one and leave or just leave right away. 15 minutes seems to much of a bother

  • THE BEST SAMPLE OF TEMPTAION I'VE EVER SEEN.

IF Adam and Eve were created like these loving Kids, ALL Humanity would be saved. DAD created Them Adults. They weren't trained. They failed. DAD must be incarnated to teach US like Kids. MOM helped DAD to train US in the form of this famous Doctor, so that we can be accepted for the Kingdom as Jesus said. It strongly reminds me if we're abstinent from all pleasures, that may lead to sins, at the end of the course we'll certainly get THE 2ND LIFE.

  • i would have ate and ran

  • why Marshmallow?

  • cauz they r delicious

  • i just did that with my little brother hes 3 and waited for another one ;)

  • BE A HOOKER

  • amazing simple test with real results.....

i would nt have ate it...or waited

    i would rise the deal

-no deal !!! only one more?

give me four tight bastard !!!

    lol

  • thats funny but a good test lol

  • yummy at 3:20

    :)

  • if my mom did that to me i would just get up with the marsh mellow and get the bag lol

  • TECHNIQUE: step on the marshmallow so you wont be tempted to eat it XD

  • @signaturemover

but- then you can't eat it later! :`(

  • i cant make myself step on a marshmellow

  • you got that right or just go get the bag and eat them all

  • I cracked up when sow news reader grabing that marsh xD

  • Why not an Oreo cookie? But that was very interesting.

  • LOL Ikr

  • That's why giving them everything they want all the time immediately is not right. They need practice in learning to wait for something even if u can give it to them right away teach them to wait.

  • It's interesting how one twin ate it right away and 1 twin waited. LOL! That is cute. :)

  • That is so true about the culture today and parents do have to work harder to teach the opposite of that.

  • its not even tasty

  • Black people.

  • if it was lasagna, i would eat it in 11 seconds.

  • id eat it in like 4 XD i h8 marshmellows

  • what are you? kind of garfield?

  • @Kittyhawk99 Shut up Garfield. :D

  • @Kittyhawk99 Is that you, Garfield?

  • Man I love how they treat the childs :D

  • I'd have plucked at it. And once I had two I'd have kept plucking at them and making myself sticky and make hem last till evening.

  • I probably would have played with the toy and waited.

  • omg, that little girl Zayla looks like me when I was little xD

  • cool.

  • As adding i can say that people who didn`t see that the test is a crap and thought really that this test means something i can say that this was a test for you. Which shows that you have very poor developed logical thinking. :DD

  • why it`s a bullshit? Because the test can be translated differently. So lets look from another aspect. The kid who eats mw immediatelly knows what he wants. He wants to eat that mw and get the pleasure immediatelly without waiting for another so he trades one mw for eating it immediatelly. He knows that if he will badly beg for another he will still get it. So the kid learns that no allways don`t mean no in life. He will be more insistent to achieving what he wants in life. So who now is better?

  • Walter Mischel's original test and its follow-ups proves that your reasoning and interpretation is wrong. Delaying of gratification really IS the number one factor for success. Intelligence is of lesser importance. Being impatient does not equal "knowing what one wants". Having goals does. Defining success doesn't have to be especially complicated either, it's just a matter of reaching one's goals. My own empirical observations also supports the claims made here.

  • All the conclusions of such a kind of tests are crap if you use kids of different ages and without considering their favorism of candies. The one child likes chokolate the other dislikes it or might even be allergic to it. The only thing I can observe is what strategies the kid use to fight the temptation. But it's very dangerous to make prognoses of their future life.

  • This test might work better if they got to choose between a marshmallow and their favourite candy.

So, "You can have a marshmallow now, or you can wait and have your favourite candy instead, when I get back."

Then, that would take out the issue of whether or not the child was impatient, or just only really cared for one. And therefore, it's not an issue with who preferred more over moderation, but truly who wanted to wait for the better option.

  • Absolutely right

  • if I was tested

    I'd take that marshmallow

    cut it with baking soda

    sell it... flip that

    and buy a whole bag

They should try this with the kids i grew up with

You gotta grow up quick where iam from

  • id flip that shit too. hah

  • There must be a naked impulsive girl test for men...

  • i <3 marshmellow

but that girl thats called Lily im like her when i was small, i would ALWAYS wait if i wanted a cookie xD when i was 3 or 4 :3

  • Is that not the whole point of the test? To see which child is more patient and therefore has more self control? Pretty sure the test proves what it's meant to.....

  • patience means nothing in such years. Patience comes with ages. You get older and you stay more patient. So why the heck kid would need the patience of an adult? So the test says that kid with more patience at the moment will not change and never learns the patience till adulthood so he will be a retard and wont success in life??? Don`t you see it`s wrong now?

  • Patience and delaying gratification isn't the exact same thing. And even if adults are better at delaying gratification, the worst performing kids will most likely be the worst performing adults. Walter Mischel's original test has proved this.

  • That is exactly WHY they test on children, it would be funner, if they put adults on the test, they can wait and it would be boring

  • @Thecutevids the fact they test on children has nothing to do with the appeal of the video. It's not about how interesting a child is to watch (although I admit they are very enthralling). It's about studying early development to see how it effects the child later in life, doing such an experiment on an older child or adult would be much less effective in studying their psychological behavior patterns

  • @RachelEpsie Cool..

  • @Thecutevids For adults it would be, don't fuck now and I'll get two girls later.

  • @Thecutevids Neurotypical adults generally already have a firm grasp of delayed gratification. Children under the age of 4 don't. There's nothing exceptional about an adult delaying gratification nor is it what the experiment wishes to test.

  • Yeah, and the kid's parents may not tell the truth or keep their promises at home, so then the kid may learn not to trust adults and eat the marshmallow while she still can.

  • haha, interesting test

if this test was for adults

they might put a sexy super model magazine on the table, and tell them that they can either read the magazine right now, or wait till he comes back, and that person can get another super model magazine

  • @tp61i6rmp, no sexy magazine needed, the marshmallow test would work well on me even though i am adult :) i am not sure i would wait for the second, because one or two, the difference is negligible, it's just not enough, i need the whole pack :)

  • Maybe something like taking a good job now, or going to college and waiting and getting a GREAT job would be a better parallel.

  • It's simple... BUT NOT EASY.

but despite that gem, this is such a cute and informative experiment.

  • ive noticed one blind spot plus the ones tinkermelody mensioned. Your only doing it with little kids and when i say that i men kids 3-5 or something like. Why not try it with older kids i say this because the little kids dont know how to control temptation.

  • What if the kid doesn't like marshmellows? And what if the kid doesn't want 2 marshmellows AS BAD as the other kids? Psychology has too many blind spots.

  • During the age 3-5 children WANT to eat sugary treats. Its natural because the body is telling the child to get more calories. A healthy sign of growing up and guess what? The easiest way to do that is the brain tells the body to simply ask "Can we buy some candy Mom/Dad?". As you can see all the children had somewhat a difficult problem trying to wait as the human body is tempting them to eat it.

  • I didn't like sugary stuff when I was younger. I guess I wasn't a "healthy" child.

  • i hated chocolate and fizzy as a child does that make me unhealty f0rsak0n?

  • hilarious!

  • lmfao. I did this when I was little. I licked it, and licked it, AND LICKED IT!!!!

It was 10x smaller than it was before... and they counted it as eating. And I'm doing really good at life.

I do have trouble with the washing machine though.. lmfao.

  • lmfao I would have picked that shit up as soon as I saw it. Or I would have waited, and when they brought the second one. I would have said, "Where are the other two?" Considering he did say I'd get two if I could hold off eating the one. Equaling three! =D Logic of a child.

  • hah i babysit im going to try that just to see xp oh i love torture and flameshoter6 kids have a short attention spand they have to do something all the time most of them FEED off of sugar and attention they dont have a eating disorder they just cant wait now if u talking about those kids who ate it right away then thats just because they ddint mean what '2 marshmellow' means lawl

  • aaahh i need a marshmllow now!

  • lol if i took the test i would just stare at the wall and do nothing, food doesn't make me hav 2 eat it in 1 second

  • Now let's try the same thing with a rock of crack cocaine and a crack addict. OK, yeah, I'm sorry. That's just they way my brain works.

  • watch?v=mMkNJdsQEM4 lol this vid is similiar but funnier!

  • The kids from the other video didn't seem tempted, they just seemed bored.

I would have just ate the marshmallow in front of the guy and left. Why wait around 15 minutes for two, when I could get one for no time investment. It's only more efficient. Yes, I did think this way when I was 8.

  • they needed to do this with fat kids... we wouldve seen some life changing thoughts going in their mind...(thats so wrong haha)

  • i doubt i could pass this test...

    :(

  • The girl who ate the marshmallow at the very begining was adorable!

  • this seems so cruel in a way.

  • 0:36 "I'm gonna eat that marshmallow now"

LMAO that kid is a damn legend

  • ok basically it says what if they eat the marshmellow and the guy says "were not predicting......how can we help our kids gaim more self-dicipline" my statement is....how much self-dicipline is too much....maybe lil Amelia had too much and missed out ona lot of aspects of life becuase she always "waiting for her second marshmemellow"

  • 4:41 "did it seem like a loong time?"

    XD

  • GTFO Off the internet you rapest

  • I hope someone rapes you with a chainsaw in the ass.

It would honor me to spend the rest of my life in jail for killing someone like you.

  • hilarious and the original is so funny

  • love it!

  • lol omg that little girl is adorable xD

  • Excuse me while I go satisfy my marshmallow craving.

  • I WOULD HOLD ON!! i woud ring the bell :)

  • EAT THE MARSHMELLOW!!!!!

    Just kidding, wait.

  • I would be like "Whatever, you guys, I'm done... *OM, NOM NOM*.....*Burp!*...."I'm guna go buy a 50 pack of Marshmallows in 3 minutes rather than waiting for 2 in 15 minutes..."

  • if i were the shrink i would eat the marshmallow and not give him another one, after 15 minutes, that's more like life.,.....

  • oh well...I guess that's progressive learning. Let them learn how to hold back from what they want now..and hope that they will be better to cope with disappointment of not getting what they want despite hardwork

  • you understand me.....w00t

  • It would have been funny if the kid was like mine.

Because they would have licked the marshmellow and eventually stuck it to the ceiling.

  • Lol, I remember when they ran that story.

  • i wouldnt eat a marshmallow if some strange man touched it. i odnt even know if he washes his hands. who knows what he has touched o_o

  • Marshmallows is God's food!

  • Did she at 0:11 seem kinda condescending when saying "...get your hands off!".

  • ok lets do this thing, this kids can bust this test!

1.say to them : ok here a marshmallow, its free you want to eat it now ?ok but here the deal if you wait for me im gonna give you another 1 ok

note:this marshmallow has a POISON so do you want to eat it now?

  • Interesting test. Where's the part where the politition comes in and promises a lifetime supply of marshmellows if they'll just vote for him?

  • lol how about dont vote for this guy, hold out and vote for the next guy who might be twice as good.

  • oh dang that girl was adroable. haha

  • i do this to my mom with french fries cuz we live down the street from jack in the box and i say if she can hold the fry all the way home she gets the rest of the pack. shes only done it once...

  • Comment removed

  • Where are the black kids

  • ...I'm 19 and I think if I was stuck in a room for 15 minutes...I would eat it after 3 minutes....I fail at life. XD

  • And everybody says boys mature slower than girls. Bullcrap.
