I've had this guitar for about 2 months now. I was blown away by the sound quality of it compared to the other brands/models at the same price range and the cedar top gives it a very loud and rich sound. $400 well spent! :D
Me and a buddy played guitars recently, he has a Hummingbird, I have a Seagull....he says damn man, that thing sounds pretty good! My Response? "My Seagull just pooped on your Hummingbird."=o)
@DnMZen I agree, there is no better value for the money! I've always said that most hobby guitarists won't be able to out play this guitar. Not to say they aren't good, just won't play enough to warrant spending 6 or 7 times what this guitar costs to get a Taylor or Martin. And in turn, if they don't play that much, they wouldn't be able to hear that much of a difference! And that is due to how well these giutars are made! I have an S6 and an MJ M6 w/spruce to mahogany sides/back & love'em!!!!!
@TheHaloChief117 Uh.. not necessarily, cedar actually tends to be alot louder and spruce. I have a solid spruce top right now, i went into a shop and i played this guitar, definitely better than the spruce
I'm just a beginner but my friend suggested Seagull to me because she said they're "pretty" and i was like "how's the sound" and she said it's really good. Do you think that this is a good beginner guitar? Since like 2008 or even before, what do you think of it now? thanks for replying!!!
@AmandaDaSinger Definitely a great sound, I really like the cedar/cherry combo. Good beginner guitar, the slightly wider fingerboard might make it a little easier to learn chord fingerings. It's a solid reliable guitar, I still play it.
@AmandaDaSinger The Seagull S-6 has cherry laminate back and sides, not solid. At a $400 price compare it to a Blueridge BR -140 which cost about $100 more but you getall solid Honduran mahogany back and sides and solid Sitka spruce top for superior sound quiality. Ranked #3 by Guitar Players Magazine.
@DnMZen I would actually tend to say the soul is interpreted in the listener more than the musician. People interpret things how ever they will regardless of the talent or emotions of the player.
@DnMZen The S6 is cherry laminate which many players including myself believe diminishes the sound quality. When you step up into the Maritime series you get the solid mahogany back and sides with a spruce top. Problem/? Not if you have $700 - %$1,000 , The Blueridge BR=140 specs. the same and sounds much better at $500
because i am recorded my own songs through computer and putting on you tube, its good to hear it in this medium for me. thanks for posting. vie had my eye on a seagull for a while, what don't know what model im after.
I'm looking at spending about $400 on a new acoustic, would you recommend a Seagull or a Takamine? those are the two main brands i'm looking at right now, but feel free to recommend others
I own one of these and I absolutely love it. The fit and finish are top class. The sound is sweet and the value is phenomenal. This level of quality could easily run you $600-1100 imho but I believe you should be able to pick one up for around $400
This guitar is incredible. I was sort of attracted to it at the store 4 years ago and was decided as soon as I heard it. Seagull products are incredible!!! But play it first cause it's actuaaly a big guitar with a big neck
Was the strummed part supposed to sound like up around the bend by creedence Clearwater revival? Cuz that's deffinitely not how you play it. But good vid I have the same guitar and I love it :)
hey, i've got a few questions for you about the guitar. I'm planning to buy the Seagull S6 Original QI. i think its the same as urs but mine has a pick up in it. I wanna ask you personally coz in my country they don't sell seagull guitars so i can't test it. How's the sound? How comfy is it?Is it worth buying? My hands are fairly large..you can add additional details that you feel that i need to know..so yeah..reply me soon! :)
I got this acoustic guitar a couple years ago and I would recommend it to anyone. everytime someone new hears it for the first time i get complimented on its sound. for a $500 guitar its well worth the money. also, the sound matures with age. after having mine for about 3 months the sound got better and better
I'd love to know what you're playing during the "strumming" part of your section, seeing how that might be easier than the finger picking section. If not, that is absolutely fine as well. Your play very well. Beautiful guitar, played it numerous times.
Hi ! I got a Seagull S6 cedar, but with a LR Baggs preamp. I know that the new S6 got a Godin quantum preamp, and is less expensive than the ones with LR Baggs preamps. But I've bought it in 1993/1994 ! At that moment, there wasn't other preamp than the LR Baggs, and I could have seen in a music shop that the same model coasted 960 euros. Is your S6 an electric-acoustic too? And with which preamp? I really don't regret to have bought it cause it really sounds well. Thanks by advance. BYE !
This is actually a great guitar. I started with one and I have very very small hands, I'm a girl btw. The f chord is kinda a hard to do, but its worth it.
I'd be interested to know how the sound for this vid was mic'd. I'd also be interested in hearing the difference between the audio of this and another similar one using the Baggs M1. If I'm not mistaken, you were a proponent of the Baggs that I wanted to install onto my Seagull. I'm just not entirely sold on the Baggs bottom-end sound. What say you?
I have the 25th anniversary model with the Spruce/ maple woods. I like the wider nut/ strings spacing due to having large finger tips. I can play longer with less fatigue. In fact I had my Breedlove AC25/SM refitted with wider than stock bone nut to make it easier to play after enjoying the wider Seagull. I think Seagulls are first rate. I want a cedar model next.
Has any 1 had to replace nut , bridge saddle or done any truss rod adjustments to this guitar. re stringed mine today with same gauge now all the strings are touching the frets , just like that was playing fine that day 2 ?
this is the best non professional acoustic guitar demo i have ever heard on youtube, the micing for the vid, the tone of the guitar and your playability all come together perfectly. please make more videos.
cedar tops provide a brighter more vibrant timbre and is somewhat less forgiving to mistakes, it is also very soft and takes dents very easily so be nice to it.
@Glenny94 GT = Gloss Top. Looks good, and is somewhat less likely to get nicks and scratches. The back and sides on the coastline (or S series) is also a dark brown/burgundy color. Looks awesome. Love my guitar <3
@nitrobobby But beside their looks, there really isn't much of a difference? Doesn't matter though, ended up buying this guitar (as my first). It's awesome, and I'm really starting to get the hang of it!
Yeah it's a great guitar and it beats some others costing like 2x-3x as much. Just check out the seagull website. There's a chart there with all the specs you need.
@ernestamundo12 I've been playing with my S6 CW for years and I just switched to Elixir strings and it makes a huge difference. The sound, which was already excellent, is even better now. Great guitar.
I have a seagull s6 electro, ive had loads of guitars before this, and sold them on ,but i would`nt part with this ,not the best looking guitar out there but sounds as good as as many top end guitars costing ten times as much, would recommend if its sound and playability your after.
I love my seagul, it has a very beautiful sound. i would definately recommend one. if you spend at least 350 - 400 pounds on one then you will have a great guitar.
Good to see the S6 on youtube. Been playing mine for over ten years. When I first got it all my guitar playing friends didnt believe how much it cost. Something quietly classy about this machine but it has a huge sound when required, sweet when needed also. You do not have to pay the earth for a better than average instrument. Thinking of going for another Seagull at some point. Friends have Taylors but the Gull has equal qualities when played next to them. They feel so nice also.
hey ive been playing guitar for 2 months now and i am playing electric but i want a accoustic for christmas. i thinking about gettin this one do u reccomend it?also how big is it and how is the feel of it?
stfu dude. i have an acoustic guitar from the 60's thats a yamaha that george benson played at a concert/gig. then it was my grandpa's and he never used it as a teen, so now i used it sometimes. now i own it.
Not true. Satin finish is actually because of an extra, clouding agent added to the guitar finish to make the gloss laquer appear "dull" which creates the satin. That's why a lot of guitars can be buffed to a gloss using only a buffing cloth and an extremely mild abbrasive.
That's true, I have Peavey/Landola made in Finland acoustic with a cedar top,it was called satin finish in the old ads I found for the guitar. When I bought it the finish was dull or satin until I went to fix a little spot of something that had been dropped on the top. I used some non abrasive wax to clean off a spot it immediately glossed up a 1" circle.. I ended up buffing out the whole top to make it look right..It no longer is satin, it shines like a mirror.
i have the same guitar and the Seagull s6 is an awesome guitar! great sound, great qualitiy.Great guitar for beginners or players who have been playing for years.
what brand picks did you use? and excuse my earlier comment. i found they sound the same. just different nut width. so i will see how they both feel in my hands before i decide.
im sure im getting the seagull s6, but not sure if i want the original or the slim one. help me decide please? im a beginner and don't much about guitar except really basic things, such as construction and string names. eadgbe. im not even sure if i got that right.
Hi ! I got a Seagull S6 too, an electric-acoustic one, with an LR Baggs preampand a cutaway, and like you said, it's my prefered steel strings guitar. Even my Nylon Strings guitar is a Godin, so like the Seagulls, crafted by R.Godin, in La Patrie. But the price, in France, is really more expensive than 380$.It's a pity, cause if it was that price, I would have two Seagulls. I really like the sound of your guitar. Your LR Baggs M1 sounds good too. BYE !
I'm thinking about getting one as a travel/camping guitar. Great tone, well made. They can be had used for under $200. I had a Seagull 12 string that was fantastic. I play mostly fingertstyle now so the neck width doesn't bother me. My only guitar now is an Epiphone EF 500R
Its a great guitar for the money and its at a very reasonable price so I would recommend it to anyone who likes the warm tone of a ceder guitar. Best bet is to try one out and see how you like it.
Hey, I bought a Seagull s6 Origional after watching your video. I think the song you finger picked is my favorite of all! Is there anyway you could send me the tabs for it?
i had problem playing barre chords when i first got mine. but then i stuck thinner strings on like 13s now after a few weeks getting used to it awesome wouldnt go back to thin necks.
yup. It's the best bang for the buck of all acoustics I could find. The Godin company which is producing these guitars has some other great acoustic guitars that are not expensive Simon&Patrick and Art&Lutherie are a couple of them. The seagull s6 is my favorite.
There is a version with a "slim" neck, the S6 + Slim. The neck is narrower. Seagull decided to offer this version because a lot of people think the neck on their regular models is too wide for them.
hello, i have a seagull s6+ no electrics. cherry sides cedar top and mahogany neck about 10 yrs old but in great shape. how much would you sell this for? is 100.00 dollars too low? thanks for reply.
my parents bought me this guitar for my 16th birthday. i got the s6 slim though.. great guitar. it sounds good with martin acoustic (gauge 10) strings
Yeah the entire Godin family is great. I played my S6 and my friends Art & Lutherie and they were seriously identical in sound and feel. I'm pretty sure the only difference between brands are just cosmetic things. All of them sound terrific.
Just got my Seagull S6 Original today and I have to say it is by far the best sounding and best playing guitar I have ever played and I have played a lot of guitars over the past 10 years.
I've had my Seagull S6 8 years now and it too is still the favorite guitar I've ever played. The cedar top has evolved over time and it sounds amazing after so much use. Seagull comes HIGHLY recommended from me!
Hey man you have a nice guitar. I live in Quebec, where these guitars are made. There have a very good rate all around the world. You play very well too.
my bro bought me 1 for xmas already had a wee go. only have one problem the neck is wider than my other guitars finding it a bit harder to play the barre chords further up the neck. will i get use to the wider neck
Yep I believe you should. I had a similar thought when I got mine, but just play the crap out it and you will get used to it. Not to mention you will actually will be able to hear the sound improve as you play.
Ahhh, the best bargain I ever got on anything is my Seagull S6 original. I've had it for about 7 years. It is well broken in. It looks vintage and the sound is better than ever.
i have been lookin to buy a guitar for ages now but havnt found one that consitantly has good reviews and sounds this good, i have now made my mind up, cheers for taking the time to make this vid, its helped :)
S6 is a FANTASTIC guitar - I've had mine for 10 years and they just keep sounding better! Build quality and craftsmanship is excellent and IMHO better than many custom built guitars
The fingerpicking sold me i think :) thats the style i play mostly. I have been shopping for a new guitar for a while, I thought I knew what i wanted recently. Now its between this and an epiphone masterbuilt aj500. My brother has a seagull and i do like it a lot, plus the not made in china is a big plus.
yep earthwood lights. i was this close to buying the aj500 as well but i picked up the seagull and the sound totally sold me. although if i get another guitar it might be the aj500 or a seagull 12 string
just bought an s6 same as that one i think.. it was £399... and it does pack a fair punch of sound, but its like any guitar, the times you hit it right it sounds cool as hell
you sound great. i'm a lefty and this guitar is on one of my choices that i'm narrowing down..enjoyed the video and keep up the good work!

hey ive been playing guitar for 2 months now and i am playing electric but i want a accoustic for christmas. i thinking about gettin this one do u reccomend it?also how big is it and how is the feel of it?
Ncaa09Fan 2 years ago
These guitars have a slightly bigger neck than maybe your average Taylor or Martin guitar. I have one and it plays wonderfully.
sanders4617 2 years ago
it's a great guitar for the money man. i've played it many of times and i think i'm going to drop the 400 on it. great guitar and great playability

i have a question
umm how does satin finish improve the sound?
RupCarpio 2 years ago
the wood can vibrate more freely, so it has a clearer, sharper sound.
Sometimes when a guitar has thick laquer it sounds dull, or quiet
TheBadBaron 2 years ago
Not true. Satin finish is actually because of an extra, clouding agent added to the guitar finish to make the gloss laquer appear "dull" which creates the satin. That's why a lot of guitars can be buffed to a gloss using only a buffing cloth and an extremely mild abbrasive.
loltheinternets 2 years ago
I didn't know that
I guess ya learn something every day!
TheBadBaron 2 years ago
That's true, I have Peavey/Landola made in Finland acoustic with a cedar top,it was called satin finish in the old ads I found for the guitar. When I bought it the finish was dull or satin until I went to fix a little spot of something that had been dropped on the top. I used some non abrasive wax to clean off a spot it immediately glossed up a 1" circle.. I ended up buffing out the whole top to make it look right..It no longer is satin, it shines like a mirror.
Myavrick 2 years ago
@RupCarpio satin finisch is less thick than gloss finish, so it allows more projection.

i have the same guitar and the Seagull s6 is an awesome guitar! great sound, great qualitiy.Great guitar for beginners or players who have been playing for years.
adunkin2014 2 years ago 2
what brand picks did you use? and excuse my earlier comment. i found they sound the same. just different nut width. so i will see how they both feel in my hands before i decide.
ubergoober07 2 years ago
im sure im getting the seagull s6, but not sure if i want the original or the slim one. help me decide please? im a beginner and don't much about guitar except really basic things, such as construction and string names. eadgbe. im not even sure if i got that right.
ubergoober07 2 years ago
Hey Folks:
A decent video depicting an excellent guitar.
The Seagull S6 is an amazing guitar that delivers a warm sound and great build quality.
You would be hard pressed to find a better guitar for the money....anywhere.
Quality & Craftmanship all the way.
Enjoy!
CanadaSmilesAtYou 2 years ago 5
BYE !
lorenzino1 2 years ago
can you please post another video with this guitar talking about it and playin it and stuff...because ive watched thid vid like 12 times
whynotfish 2 years ago
I absolutely love the sound of this guitar! I like the first tune you play man.. Great stuff!
uholtz 2 years ago 2
I'm thinking about getting one as a travel/camping guitar. Great tone, well made. They can be had used for under $200. I had a Seagull 12 string that was fantastic. I play mostly fingertstyle now so the neck width doesn't bother me. My only guitar now is an Epiphone EF 500R
pontil1 2 years ago
would this guitar be good 4 a beginner? (classic rock/metal kinda guy)
Mormagor666 2 years ago
Its a great guitar for the money and its at a very reasonable price so I would recommend it to anyone who likes the warm tone of a ceder guitar. Best bet is to try one out and see how you like it.
AnotherAnonymous9001 2 years ago
i wouldnt know... im just starting taking lessons atm... anyway thnx man :)
Mormagor666 2 years ago
dude this is like really nice, i am thinking about this guitar, or a martin 000x1 and tips? oh and by the way, did you just put new strings on it?
Bulldogs74840 2 years ago
Hey, I bought a Seagull s6 Origional after watching your video. I think the song you finger picked is my favorite of all! Is there anyway you could send me the tabs for it?
BigzamZC 2 years ago
i had problem playing barre chords when i first got mine. but then i stuck thinner strings on like 13s now after a few weeks getting used to it awesome wouldnt go back to thin necks.
craigyinfalkirk 2 years ago
would you recommend this to a beginner newly started guitar player?
GreaTbeAnmaD 2 years ago 13
yup. It's the best bang for the buck of all acoustics I could find. The Godin company which is producing these guitars has some other great acoustic guitars that are not expensive Simon&Patrick and Art&Lutherie are a couple of them. The seagull s6 is my favorite.
inglefud 2 years ago
@GreaTbeAnmaD best bang for the buck!

@GreaTbeAnmaD yep! half the money, double the fun

hey sorry if my response was harsh, i didnt mean it that way its just frustrating cause im trying to look for a guitar atm.
thank you for your effort.
jasonbrianmerrill 2 years ago
jason, if you're not happy then look elsewhere for a sound clip.
This guitar is made in Quebec and IMHO has a very good price to quality ratio.
ehackster 2 years ago
no thats fine, i didnt mean to sound harsh, i just dont see the point of even making a demo when its such lo-qual...
its ok man...

how ridiculous... a youtube quality demo of an acoustic guitar.
i REALLY want to hear how this sounds...
any hi qual mp3 or flac/wav sounds?
jasonbrianmerrill 2 years ago
This was recorded with a camera, so I think a flac file would be absolutely pointless.
I might make another video soon, with audio recorded by condensers rather than direct to the camera.
DnMZen 2 years ago
@DnMZen Obviously the implication is to record it in a decent way first... hence the "hi qual" idea...

I have fairly small hands, would this guitar be right for me?
Ookie221 2 years ago
You might want to play it at a store first if you can. The fingerboard and neck are fairly wide.
DnMZen 2 years ago
There is a version with a "slim" neck, the S6 + Slim. The neck is narrower. Seagull decided to offer this version because a lot of people think the neck on their regular models is too wide for them.
JazzIVWoman 2 years ago
hello, i have a seagull s6+ no electrics. cherry sides cedar top and mahogany neck about 10 yrs old but in great shape. how much would you sell this for? is 100.00 dollars too low? thanks for reply.
88mpny 3 years ago
Old guitars are more expensive because they sound better, so I would sell it for 500 bucks
linx0r2 2 years ago
Such an amazing sound, can't wait to get my hands on one of these. Does the fretboard feel a little wide?
Chiger23 3 years ago
It is a little wide. For me that's a good thing, but not for everybody.
DnMZen 3 years ago
my parents bought me this guitar for my 16th birthday. i got the s6 slim though.. great guitar. it sounds good with martin acoustic (gauge 10) strings
shootthekidsatschool 3 years ago
I have a cedar-top Simon & Patrick. S&P's are also part of the "Godin Guitar Family." Canadians make terrific acoustics. :)
stonefreeJMH 3 years ago
Yeah the entire Godin family is great. I played my S6 and my friends Art & Lutherie and they were seriously identical in sound and feel. I'm pretty sure the only difference between brands are just cosmetic things. All of them sound terrific.
DnMZen 3 years ago
Just got my Seagull S6 Original today and I have to say it is by far the best sounding and best playing guitar I have ever played and I have played a lot of guitars over the past 10 years.
scupking 3 years ago
Dude I JUST got my Seagull and it is amazing. It is a sunburst coloring. I also think they are handmade in Canada..

Hi could you PLEASE send me the tab for this awesome sounding song. Great job.
csbaker1234567890 3 years ago
I've had my Seagull S6 8 years now and it too is still the favorite guitar I've ever played. The cedar top has evolved over time and it sounds amazing after so much use. Seagull comes HIGHLY recommended from me!
sxybstrd25 3 years ago
Hey man you have a nice guitar. I live in Quebec, where these guitars are made. There have a very good rate all around the world. You play very well too.
chorald 3 years ago
my bro bought me 1 for xmas already had a wee go. only have one problem the neck is wider than my other guitars finding it a bit harder to play the barre chords further up the neck. will i get use to the wider neck
ukandoittowithkandoo 3 years ago
Yep I believe you should. I had a similar thought when I got mine, but just play the crap out it and you will get used to it. Not to mention you will actually will be able to hear the sound improve as you play.
I got used to it and now I actually prefer it.
DnMZen 3 years ago
yeah thanks for reply im goin to put thinner strings on that should make a diffrence.
ukandoittowithkandoo 3 years ago
did you make the fingerpicking part up? if you did its good as shit.

wat guage strings do u use on it?
jesse1970ss 3 years ago
Gauges 9-9, 12-12, 20w-9, 26-12, 36-20p, 46-26.
DnMZen 3 years ago
Ahhh, the best bargain I ever got on anything is my Seagull S6 original. I've had it for about 7 years. It is well broken in. It looks vintage and the sound is better than ever.

S6 is a FANTASTIC guitar - I've had mine for 10 years and they just keep sounding better! Build quality and craftsmanship is excellent and IMHO better than many custom built guitars

I just bought an Electric-Acoustic S6 off eBay the other day, can't wait till it comes. They sound great.
Scotty7878 3 years ago
cool, dont they have this version in cutaway form? Sound really nice.
VelezBiH 3 years ago
is that an electro acoustic
tysonmuse 3 years ago
no, but now i guess it is because i threw an lr baggs m1a on it which sounds great btw
DnMZen 3 years ago
this is the guitar i have and i love it.
of course, there are better guitars out there...but this instrument is great for the price.
besteverr001 3 years ago
how much does it cost??
i heard the Seagull S6 is under $400
but is that same price for the cedar wood one?
karem 3 years ago
Seagulls S6 Originals have cedar tops and can be had for 399 most places. The Guitar Center in my town has them in stock usually.
opmike343 3 years ago
I am thinking about buying this guitar. I need wider 45mm neck as Seagulls are and the cedar top sounds warm and nice. Thank for this sound demo.
Hasman56 3 years ago
The fingerpicking sold me i think :) thats the style i play mostly. I have been shopping for a new guitar for a while, I thought I knew what i wanted recently. Now its between this and an epiphone masterbuilt aj500. My brother has a seagull and i do like it a lot, plus the not made in china is a big plus.
What strings did you have on it here?
lookitcrashed 3 years ago
it says erni ball earthwood lights i think
a1b2c3d4f3g4h5 3 years ago
yep earthwood lights. i was this close to buying the aj500 as well but i picked up the seagull and the sound totally sold me. although if i get another guitar it might be the aj500 or a seagull 12 string
DnMZen 3 years ago
just bought an s6 same as that one i think.. it was £399... and it does pack a fair punch of sound, but its like any guitar, the times you hit it right it sounds cool as hell
ObserveIt 3 years ago
great job! i got a seagull s6 too. How did you learn to play so well? Did you go to school and learned to play the guitar?
Thanks
idonotneedanidforyou 3 years ago
nope self taught mostly. mostly during summers when i had a lot of time on my hands
DnMZen 3 years ago
wow...i got a seagull s6 too but I can't get mine to play it like you. I'm still new at it. Good job!
idonotneedanidforyou 3 years ago
This guitar sounds great. I'm getting a 97' of this same model as my first guitar. Can't wait. Thanks for the demo.
