The only reason so called "nerds" are looked down upon is because the underachievers want to make it that way. There are far more underachievers than actually smart people and a lot of the society are now looking at smart people as nerdy and lame, while it is actually them who are winning in almost every way, and the underachievers that are losers. I really don't understand why society looks at the "badasses" with gangster clothes and bad attitude as cool. Unbelievable really.
The guys who made the languages for Star Trek are linguistical genius', seriously the fact that they can make an entire new language in, well i don't know how long it took, and the fact that languages like English took, hundreds and hundreds of years to develope to it's current form, question for you, do you think that the languages made will evolve in the same manner languages like English evolves?
@Lupain I will agree with you on that, based solely on my own preferences, but Klingon has its own merits too and star trek, though I may never be as big of a fan of it as I am of Lord of the Rings, is awesome(at least the original and TNG are. I don't really care for it afterwards tho)
@dilinca Three years have past since I posted this and I still get regular hate mail for it in my inbox. All of them seem to assume that this is all I do, and that I have never had a girlfriend. Well for those of you who write me and I do get about 2 mails a day on this, yes I have a fiance, yes shes a human woman, no I am not a virgin I've been with my fair share of women, and yes I know this is not a real language I am simply a Star Trek fan.
@jisaid08 my hate mail has only begun! honestly, though, ignore them. They all lead very boring, ignorant lives where they're likely too drunk to remember any of it. When they're old and wrinkly, they'll look back on darkness and regret. When we're old and wrinkly, we'll have something better that they can never understand. As for your fiance, I don't even know her, but your lady is awesome.
I'm not the type of person who likes to troll on nerds viedos, but wow, are u actually saing that kingon is a real language? I'm really happy by knowing spanish and english, is funny cuz there may be a few hundreds of people who can speak that crap and they are not all together in the same place, so you may have no friends
I've made two videos of me trying to speak Elvish and my brother said I should try to mix Elvish and Klingon...calling it "elvon" or "klingish." Klingon seems like a difficult language so idk if I'll ever really have the time to learn it. But, elvish isn't too hard, so maybe you or another trekkie might be able to figure it out lol if you do, hit me up with an email LOL Ringers, Trekkies and PotHeads. We're fun xD
@dilinca Hey its nice to have a friendly comment on this video. There are so many people who apparently searched for something Star Trek related only to click my video and make fun. The subject of me having sex ever seems to be the focus of their comments and emails. Im not sure why my sex life is of such great concern of theirs but they're convinced that women find me repulsive because I took the time to make a Klingon video. Apparently they haven't seen my science videos which women love.
@snubbs741 So tell me, did you type in "Klingon" into youtube because you also like Star Trek, or because you have nothing better to do than make fun of Star Trek fans? Star Trek fans make up a large majority of the scientist, engineers, doctors, and teachers that compose the academic glue of our society. To attack us for no reason shows insecurity on your part, and makes you nothing more than a common bully. Next time try searching for something you relate to like sports.
People are right, it's not a "Real" language in that it was created. But it was created by a linguist who took cue's from real languages. In fact he chose one in particular to base it off of, although I can't remember which one it is right now. My point is, yes, it was created. But no, it's not a bunch of random gibberish.
What's the purpose of you guys about spending time learning this language? what do you gain? I mean, you could learn another universal language, more useful, with all due respect....I just want to know what motivates you to spend your time in this....
@ceslopez86 Honestly, all you really gain is another step into geekdom (this coming from someone who was lost in that world a loooong time ago). I love learning new languages, and I love Star Trek, so for me, I was intrigued by the idea that there was a fully functional language based off of a fictional alien empire. I haven't exactly "mastered" Klingon, and probably never will, but I'd love to learn how to put simple sentences together in case I meet someone as geeky as me :)
@thetimothyjr2155 So watching Star Trek a couple hours a week with friends and learning trivia about the show is a waste of time? And watch sports isn't? If it is such a waste of time I would love to know why you watched this video with the title "Klingon Language Institute", or find out how you even found the video. You must have searched "Klingon" to find it, so were you also wasting your time? This comment didn't turn out the way you expected did it? Your insult sort of fell flat. Nice try.
@jisaid08 ....as your epic as your response was (....), i fell on this video from googling info about how the chinese writing system was created (im learning a real language), and stumbled upon this dumb stuff on the same page. @jisaid08 i came off the wrong way though. I dont mean to insult you. this just all took me by surprise that something like this even existed and that people literally studied it. I heard of klingon once or twice before in my life and chuckled, thinking it was a joke. I was just accidentally way to blunt. If this is what you are into...then I guess its your time so do what you want with it. but learning a real language is also alot of fun too, and much more rewarding. good luck to you either way
I think they should translate Beowulf in Klingon! That for a klingon is a SAGA! Just by hearing the klingon language it sounds like Old Norse and old German Slavic languages Baltic (Finnish and Lithuanian) languages and Arabic rolled in one bunch! I'm Norwegian my spouse is Polish! So I do recognize a lot of the words! Also I was in the Navy and I picked up Arabic in the Gulf! My question which of those languages is Klingon based off of?
@spareaxe I think they did make a Klingon bible...which I don't really get since religion in the Star Trek universe is a relic of the past. It was my understanding that everyone on Earth in the 24th century is atheist.
@jisaid08 which is why they don't let the klingons into the federation, because they believe in kahless (not a god, but a figure of religious veneration nonetheless)
but you've got to ask yourself, how did the federation do it? all the religious wars we have had in our world prove that people won't just give up their beliefs when asked to politely, so how did the federation accomplish it?
@bookworm1138 Well Klingons are allowed into Starfleet and the federation, but since their world is not a federation planet each Klingon needs a letter of recommendation for admitance into the federation. This is seen on an episode of DS9 when Captain Sisko had to recommend Nog for Starfleet since his homeworld was not part of the federation. I would say the people of Earth gave up their religions when they saw they weren't alone in the galaxy and their religion didn't matter.
@jisaid08 imho, there's something a little too fishy about the foundation of the federation according to the star trek lore. for instance, it's a possibility that the federation (or at least the united earth government) erased all records of World War 3, specifically concerning who launched the first nuclear missiles that began the war, because, (more follows)
@jisaid08 ...the offending party (whoever launched the first nukes) would be ostracized/blamed for the tremendous loss of life, and, according to "encounter at farpoint", the united earth gov't (who started the federation) held that no race/individual would be held responsible for the actions of their ancestors...
and perhaps they were wiped out due to both the eugenics wars and WW3
@peacekid haha It doesn't deflect it at all. Look up the Sapir-Whorf theory. The nice thing about learning Klingon is you don't need to score pussy, you simply take it.
You're still trilingual and absolutely fluent in English with a non-existing accent as a marker. It's all good though. You should check out the Harry Potter series in klingon instead of Shakespeare (I've read those books but still) if they have them in Latin they should them in Klingon.
@kagasaki6 Im not sure if they have Harry Potter due to copyright issues. They did Shakespeare because he's mentioned a lot especially in Star Trek 6 so it's sort of a Trekkie inside joke.
While my personal belief is to study only applicable languages of interest, and not even Portuguese seems useful enough to me, I believe people are entitled to their own volition and it is quite admirable to learn a whole invented language that seems quite difficult because it's not based on any preexisting precepts that I'd know of. Darn him he knows Arabic, now that I'm jealous of! That language is so difficult to master, especially the written form. Also, people usually only speak 1 language.
@tFighterPilot Woah man, you shouldn't start learning Klingon until you have English down. You cannot say "You are for fags"......you can say "You are a fag" but the "for" is not necessary. I'll be sure to make an English lesson video for you later.
Now I want the books. Unfortunately, I don't have a good voice for Klingon. I always end up sounding like an idiotic, geek girl. It's kind of working for you though.
The Klingon Language Institute did not create the language. It was first developed by James Doohan (Montgomery Scott) who created the first few phrases to be used in Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country and it was later expounded upon by Mark Okrand.
The Klingon Language Institute is responsible for making Klingon semi-enjoyable for even a lazy dishonorable shyte to learn.
@EnDiHjobi That's all correct except that James Doohan invented the first klingon sounds for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and not for Star Trek VI.
ha my friend and I bought this book yesterday, it is a pretty good laugh, in the beginning it say's in order to get the proper pronunciation you must make many Klingon friends, so do you want to be my first klingon friend lol?
I was wondering you know cause only the saddest people in the world would learn something like kilgon, it's like most men over 50 who make airfix modles are perves,,,
Rockabillypunk... i know who u are... u are weird :P Why would you want Klingon on ur CV? it's like selling ureself as idot to people you dont know yet... Yes, JOSH :P it is I ;)
Like when your trying to get a job you can say "I'm fluent in Kilgon!" will the guy giving me the interview actually give a fuck or is this just a strange hobbie? I am curious.
Not sure if you could call them dialects, per se, but there are definitely different regional accents. It's addressed in the Klingon Dictionary mentioned in the video.
I thought you might know: are they really speaking Klingon in that crazy Don't Copy That 2 video or is it made-up junk? Just curious, I am asking Klingon-speakers.
Out of interest... what DOES Qa'Pla! mean? I dug up and found the Klingon dictionary (online) that he was on about - as its all in a database there, and they dont have it!
um they really didn't develop it, the guy who started it was the man who played scotty and its another guy who wrote the dictionary who's developing it....how do you learn it? I'd like to but how did you? Just need reccomandations..
The KLI has an on-line course. the Klingon Assault Group is getting a language group goind and I hope to be able to convince them to make some sound recordings.
Was it my Klingon language skills, sai skills, or biochemistry skills that attracted you? Don't be jealous but I've been chatting online with hot babes all day. ;O)

Actually, yeah, it's probably a coincidence... ...but still!
By the way, you may want to fix the video description; it's Qapla', not Qa'Pla }};-)

ChrisTripp 2 years ago
"Qaplah" is success. Usually the context is something along the lines of "good luck in your hunt."
grelbr1 2 years ago 2
Not sure if you could call them dialects, per se, but there are definitely different regional accents. It's addressed in the Klingon Dictionary mentioned in the video.
