Wow after all these years she still sounds great and performs this song well. You can tell that she didn't want to force some of those notes she hit back in the 90's though.... either way she came through-fantastic performance. What is she doing now? Is she still making music? When I think back to when I was a teen and ladies I use to love to hear sing other than MaryJBlige, was Caron Wheeler and Cheryl Pepsi Riley.

I was in High School. 1990, the dawn of a really good decade of music. This song stood out at the time because it was so very different from the "new jack swing" sound that was prevalent in R&B music at that time. It still stands out as much today, along with Back II Life as two of my all time favorites.

Martina Topley Bird doesn't sing with an accent.... we were brought up only looking at Black Americans and never our own Black British selves....things havent really changed that much sadly. Before Soul II Soul existed I dont think Americans knew that there were any Black people in England. I just Love Carons voice so distinct and beautiful

I think you are incorrect about British Singers singing with American accents because they want to sell. British singers like Caron sing in an American accent because that was the music she listened to, so to be authentic they sang accordingly. The difference in culture comes out more in the musical background, as with this song
