A local army sergeant was killed at chosin in 1950 and his remains were found last year. Now they're finally coming home after 60 years. Joseph Bowen is his name.
It's sad but true that The Korean War is the forgotten war. Imagine going through that hell and returning home to a country that didn't even notice there was a war going on.
My Uncle was there and he retired with 14 medals including the silver star. He is gone now, but I do remember his stories. Any American that was at the Chosen Reservoir is a hero. There is a movie about this war. It is called Fixed Bayonnets and it is informative.
My father too, was there. He lost his right arm, but survived to come home to be my father. I also wanted to join the Corps during Vietnam but he would hear nothing of it. He did however let me join the Army where I served in the Cavalry.
My Dad was there -two purple hearts with George Co. 1st Marines- John Van Dyke Farry of SF Calif. These Men are the most unsung of heroes in the HISTORY of the U.S. I wanted to join the Marines so bad as a 18 year old, my Dad would have nothing of it-Thanks Dad.
@TheSteffen1223 no they didnt. despite the heroic actions of the marines on the ground, the chinese still won the battle and managed to push all UN forces out of north korea. mcarthur had gotten into his head that he was invincible and ended any chance of victory and nearly lost the entire 1st marine division as well, a fact that eventually led to his dismissal.
by all means honor their sacrifice but dont let the semantics blind you to the incompetent leadership that led to such terrible odds.
My Dad was There-Army--He's prob in this Video somwhere.--Victor Jab - - r--if anyone knew him.

@deanfarry Have you read "Give me Tomorrow"? It is the story of G 3/1, a fighting unit if ever there was one.
Thank your father for his service, he has paid the price.
