Sure people may get by in the preliminary stages of developing a theory but this cannot last forever. For example there were a few accounts of false fossils being claimed to be evidence for evolution. Although these were accepted for a while, probably because of the buddy system you speak of, it was eventually proven to be a fake. I may be wrong.
If you think it's necessary for specific examples, then I might be able to dig up something. I've had the opportunity to work with and learn from many researchers across a variety of fields (e.g. psychology, sociology, marketing, biology), and they've all talked about the buddy system of academia. If a person establishes himself as a founder of a certain method or a new study, he is usually one of the most cited individuals in the area. (continued)
Another way to look at the situation is this: keeping in mind how the peer review process works, would YOU wish to be the one who questions one of the leading authorities in your area? That's an enormous risk and a good way to end up on someone's blacklist. And sure, science is pretty adept at catching and exposing false ideas, but all we have are data on the successes. How many erroneous claims yet remain as established facts?
There are other issues as well, but really, I am confident that the scientific method is the best tool we have when it comes to the issue of discerning truth (little 't' here). But we would do well to maintain a healthy skepticism even toward the method we use to determine such things. Science is a human construct, after all, and is still vulnerable to the biases of its practitioners.

That's a miss-translation. The proper translation would be "The Satan" which actually, correctly translated, means adversary.

Sure people may get by in the preliminary stages of developing a theory but this cannot last forever. For example there were a few accounts of false fossils being claimed to be evidence for evolution. Although these were accepted for a while, probably because of the buddy system you speak of, it was eventually proven to be a fake. I may be wrong.

There are other issues as well, but really, I am confident that the scientific method is the best tool we have when it comes to the issue of discerning truth (little 't' here). But we would do well to maintain a healthy skepticism even toward the method we use to determine such things. Science is a human construct, after all, and is still vulnerable to the biases of its practitioners.

@ParadiseFoster It doesn't mean anything religious. A lot of people without faith wear symbols for the sake of it. In this case I don't think it means she believes in it, but that symbol is the Ankh. It's an ancient Egyptian symbol for life, and fertility, and a whole lot of other things. It's been used to convey many messages, but no mainstream religion really sports that symbol. If anything the Ankh can be more related to ir-religion since ancient Egyptian religion is dead.

That's a miss-translation. The proper translation would be "The Satan" which actually, correctly translated, means adversary.
The satan you're thinking it refers to (satan as the fallen angel) is never directly mentioned because it didn't exist as a concept until it was "added" in way later.
The bible is total bunk, written by men, edited by men. Not to mention translated several times with all the problems that go along with that.
