i woulda pounded that big pike at 1:32 that thing is a pig i woulda stuck those muskies too hahah big bastards jeez you shootin outta mille lacs or what haha
@whopperhead lol what about related species found in north america?
I'm from the UK we only have what you call Northern Pike. It's my most prized sport fish. I love to catch and return them. My personal best pike is currently 25lb 7oz.
Due to illness it looks like it will be my lifetime best. Seeing that type of fish killed makes me shudder.
@SissingPyd - We do not and have never speared/killed any Northern Pike. I know in my video it looks as though I speared a MUSKIE - but it is the angle of the camera. I actually shot a carp behind it. It is illegal to shoot pike here in Wisconsin.
@memaster4 - No, it was about a foot ahead of the carp I shot. In the original video that is longer and not on here, you see the carp I fight. The angle of the camera, makes it look closer to my speargun than it really is. And its a Muskie.
me and my cus spear fish at mabey pond with no gun just home made spears and catch carp all the time its the real way to spearfish. if you wanna know how we made our spears we got steel pipe and welded a grinded steel home made arrow head to the top
@666ToyotaSupra - That's Awesome Dude! Good that you guys get them Primitive Style. I do from time to time use a Pole Spear. I actually prefer it. But near impossible to make a video and pole spear at the same time. I would need someone there to video me.
What type of speargun do you use? I'm interested in starting spearfishing, but i don't know what type/brand to get that will be strong enough to penetrate carp?. I've been looking at a jbl magnum.
@hansch10 - I use a HammerHead Evolution 75cm. I used the Hammerhead on carp with only 1 band!!! It's very powerful and accurate. Highly recommended!!!
@burmkilla - Yes, in most counties and Lakes. There are some regulations to certain counties and Lakes. There is a SPEARING AND TRAPPING REGULATION Book out there. I would double check, depending on where it is you plan on spearing.
@iammike111 - It is a Wet Suit. It's called a OPEN CELL Interior Wetsuit - Neoprene on the outside. They seal against your body and keep you warm. The water temp was about 34 F not directly in front of the out flow. In the Outflow it was about 54. We usually stay in the water for a few hours.
@whopperhead So its not legal to spear muskies than? Which was my question and I researched this by asking the DNR and it is nowhere legal to spear Muskies in WI or the bordering waters. But thanks for the response. Looks like fun...
yea same i live up north,i dont actually dive here, but when i go in southern countries im just amazed ,just bein underwater is an incredible experience, tried to hunt with some hawaian sling but i only catch 1 nassau grouper and a few lobster, kinda hard to hit while freediving when theres a lot of waves =S
@landryqc - I've been in the Atlantic - water temp was around 70. I was like a kid in a Candy Store. I Loved It!!! Wish I didn't live 2,000 miles away.
Nice video! those are some HUGE Musky!!! You guys are lucky, we can't shoot any bass or perch up here which sucks. Just carp, burbot and suckers. The burtbot are way too deep for me though :(
How cold is that water? Makes me think I could be diving right now :D
@gaston48 - They are illegal to shoot. We can only shoot "Pan Fish" (Blue gills, Sunfish, Crappies, Perch) and "Rough Fish" (Carp, Suckers, Gar, Dogfish, Rock Bass, Striped Bass, Burbot, Freshwater Drum, Gizzard Shad)
@piedem76 - The Giant Fish (Muskie and Northern Pike) are "Game Fish" and is illegal to spearfish. Not to mention, If would be very unhealthy to eat Muskie from these waters. They have high levels of Mercury. The Pike are ok as long as you don't eat it often.
You are completely insane for diving in that cold. I just want to throw that out there. That said, WOW!! Are those muskie in suspended animation from the cold? They aren't skittish at all and that one old soldier is not gobbling up them blue gill and sunfish. Thats crazy!
@bloodterror77 Thank You! The muskies suspended are sitting in the warm water flowing out of that grate. it's about 15-20 degrees warmer in front of the grates. And I think the reason they aren't eating those panfish is because, that already have had their fill. They have full bellies. I think they may be turning on the pipe again this year. It's been off for the last year and a half. More videos to come........hopefully
Hey dude, fuck you for shooting that muskie... just kidding. Good pop control on those shitty carp. Question though, what do you actually do with the stringer of them?
@seairland312 - LOL. Thanks. Well, when I video was shot I had lots of acreage that I would use the carp as fertilizer. The food plots and other produce did awesome!!!! BUT, I now no longer have that land and so, as of this year- have not shot a single carp. I have no where to put them. They are still massive in numbers!!!!!!!
@whopperhead No shit, that's pretty funny. Well yeah dude, props on the video... VA spearos like myself tend to sketch out when the water's any less than 70 degrees so needless to say I experienced massive shrinkage watching this
@jeffhoberg - YES! It's illegal to spear any GAME FISH. It may look like I shot that Muskie in the beginning, but it's the angle of the camera- I had shot a carp about 2 feet behind it. Not close to the muskie- the Muskie 'flinches' because of the sound and fast movement of the band of the speargun.
@BigBlue10em - Not sure, but Are you calling ME "Hippie Eurotrash"? or was that meant for someone else? I'm obviously no tree huger. I promise you- I've never hugged a tree.
@rjohansens Thank You! I'm working on another one in the next week or two that should turn out pretty awesome- Need a few more 'fish shots' and will get it out shortly.
We didn't spear any muskies- never have. The angle of the camera appears that we did, but i shot a carp that was at least a foot behind that muskie in the beginning. I would NEVER shoot a muskie or Game Fish. Please ask questions before you get all pissed.
Water in front of the grate is about 54 degress F. 30 ft to either side of that grate is about 35 degrees. We wear 5mil OPEN CELL Interior suits. Keeps us warm for a few hours in the cold water.
@FishboiFishboi That is a gate- and where the Warm water is coming from. A Power plant about a block away pumps it's warm water into the lake at this spot
oh really? cool so that means during the cold months, such as winter, fish will be near dams. oh yeah what i wanted to know was will the fish still bite?
@FishboiFishboi - I've had Muskies nudge me, never been bit. The Big ones are intimidating, but I seriously doubt they would ever bite. If so, then I probably deserve it
@FishboiFishboi - I'm not sure, I personally have caught more in spring (April/May) I don't think they are even legal to catch until the middle of May. I was to catch Bass or something and the muskies were chasing my bucktails around. I've never FISHED for Muskies at this spot. i have seen OTHERS try- but with THAT much live food around, no wonder they don't catch anything,
Going under-water at that temperature to spear fish, that is for real man . I am a hard core fisherman, I can fish for three days in a row sleeping on a tent next to a body of water, but I never precticed any freediving, I admire your abilities. That is real fishing, after all you are leaving your element to catch these animals.
@aprendizdehumano - Thanks! I use to do regular fishing all the time, until I got into spearfishing. We can't shoot game fish, but I prefer the taste of Crappie and Perch anyways. I think I've gone 'Regular' fishing a couple times since I've started Spearfishing. With Spearfishing, it doesn't matter if the fish are biting or not. We have to hunt them down, stalk them. The better the freediver you are- the more fish you will get.
Though carp may be invasive species they are here to stay you can't disagree with that. They deserve some respect too. They are large good fighting and smart fish.
not saying that people should stop spearfishing and bow hunting them cause it is true that they do need a control on their population.
they dont deserve any respect at all if, as you've already admitted, that they're out of control. they're a disgusting, invasive fish that nobody wants around
@chicagoblast - I agree with you. I love Carp as a fish. I just don't like how they destroy the habitat for game fish. And they are growing in numbers.
@shimy1221 - No, with the angle of the camera it appears that way- I shot a CARP that was about a foot behind it. I don't think I would even want to shoot a Muskie- you see the teeth on those things?! Watch it a few more times- you'll see the carp right when I shoot.
I sometimes do this in GREENLAKE too. We basically will go anywhere there is CLEAR water. We have to be able to see. My Favorite lake is LAKE MICHIGAN
That shit is unreal, I spear fish central california, wisconson looks like its got some nice fishin. Why did you guys shoot that pike/muskie. Happy slayin
It was a Muskie and I didn't shoot it- there was a CARP behind it and with the angle of the camera - it kinda looks like I took a shot at the muskie. it was at least a foot in front of the carp. We can't shoot game fish here.
The warm water is the 'WARM WATER DISCHARGE' from a coal power plant about a block away. I'm not sure the cleanliness of it. It doesn't smell or anything- But I'm not going to drink it or anything- does feel nice when we start getting cold though.
oh cool but iIfish a lot for pike bass waleye, rainbow, salmon and suckers and carp but i dont see how the normal carp like the one u have in ur display pick. are bad.i mean the asian carp u guys might have or i not sure were they are but ..i dont think normal carp are bad if anything they feed off the alligie dead fish anything they can get a hold of thats dead lol. they helpclean the rivers up? Cool video but when u mean rough fish what do u mean i also wondered what is coming out of that vent
From an elevated area you can actually see where the carp are, just look for the murky water- they eat not just the dead plants but the roots of the live ones as well, Perfect example is this little river near my house that was awesome for FISHING, every year I started to notice more and more Carp- NOW, almost NO game fish and carp so thick you could walk across them- It's sad. That's what got me into shooting Carp- 1st with a bow now with a speargun.
It is legal to shoot ROUGH FISH and PAN FISH throughout most of WI. no limit or restrictions on ROUGH FISH and 25 per day on Pan- although we only shoot what we are going to eat. Except for CARP- they are vile fish and just deserve to die. They destroy our lakes, rivers and streams.
you mean HELP your lakes, rivers, and streams. they clean up the bottoms like dead fish, and animal shit etc., yes they are vile but they do a big part in nature. everything has a purpose.
i suppose your smarter than every ecologist ever to work with the DNR ah? Keep your ignorant comments to yourself man, doubtful anyone cares what your mind concocts to be true.
It's illegal for us to shoot them. They would put up a good fight- and They're Muskies. I think there were a couple Northern- but most are Muskies. You can eat the Norther- they are good. The Muskies on the other hand- I would not eat- high amounts of Mercury. The Carp taste like mud (to me). Some guys like the taste and they taste ok if you SMOKE them.
I'm sure the muskie takes a bite or two - but I think there main concern is staying warm- Right infront of that discharge can get up to 54 degrees- go over 15 feet and it drop to about 32. It is really cool. The REALLY Big Muskies can somtimes be territorial and will "bump" you or get about 8" from your face. close enough to make me back away. Every so often we'll even have Stergeon in there- Those are sweet!
this spot is right infront of a "warm-Water" discharge from a power plant. right infront of the discharge the water temp can be 54 degrees. Also, it is illegal for us to spearfish through a hole in the ice larger than 12" has to be "open water"

The better the freediver you are- the more fish you will get.
whopperhead 1 year ago
Though carp may be invasive species they are here to stay you can't disagree with that. They deserve some respect too. They are large good fighting and smart fish.
not saying that people should stop spearfishing and bow hunting them cause it is true that they do need a control on their population.
chicagoblast 2 years ago
they dont deserve any respect at all if, as you've already admitted, that they're out of control. they're a disgusting, invasive fish that nobody wants around
MegaLuSu 2 years ago
@chicagoblast - I agree with you. I love Carp as a fish. I just don't like how they destroy the habitat for game fish. And they are growing in numbers.
whopperhead 1 year ago
Oh ok, I see it now ! Keep posting new videos !!
BTW, you should start a carp killing business for private lakes who's fishing has been decimated by carps !!
shimy1221 2 years ago
I would - If anyone ever needed it- contact me!

MASSACRE THOSE CARP !!!!
BTW, are you allowed to spear Muskie there? Cuz here in Canada, you're not allowed
shimy1221 2 years ago
@shimy1221 - WE are not allowed to shoot Muskie or any other GAME Fish.
whopperhead 2 years ago
But you clearly speared a Muskie in this video
shimy1221 2 years ago
@shimy1221 - No, with the angle of the camera it appears that way- I shot a CARP that was about a foot behind it. I don't think I would even want to shoot a Muskie- you see the teeth on those things?! Watch it a few more times- you'll see the carp right when I shoot.

Awsome Vid! you put my underwater musky videos to shame! awsome!!
MNtwincitieswaters 2 years ago
Alot of idiots on here posting and insulting others when they don't know what they are talking about.
Carp are invasive!
They are considered a rough fish and you can spear fish for them!
They destroy underwater habitat, surface vegetation and enitre ecosystems that are crucial for other fish (game fish) and especially for waterfowl!
Nothing immoral, illegal or destructive here...keep it up man!

fullthrottle7061 2 years ago 2
This day we are at Lake Monona in Madison. There is a warm water discharge from a power plant that keeps a small area from freezing.
whopperhead 2 years ago
I sometimes do this in GREENLAKE too. We basically will go anywhere there is CLEAR water. We have to be able to see. My Favorite lake is LAKE MICHIGAN

That shit is unreal, I spear fish central california, wisconson looks like its got some nice fishin. Why did you guys shoot that pike/muskie. Happy slayin
skimdude420 2 years ago 2
It was a Muskie and I didn't shoot it- there was a CARP behind it and with the angle of the camera - it kinda looks like I took a shot at the muskie. it was at least a foot in front of the carp. We can't shoot game fish here.
whopperhead 2 years ago
one more thing what warm water is coming out that vent thing? Is it good or bad water LOL Thx Againg
Richard
king14rk 2 years ago
The warm water is the 'WARM WATER DISCHARGE' from a coal power plant about a block away. I'm not sure the cleanliness of it. It doesn't smell or anything- But I'm not going to drink it or anything- does feel nice when we start getting cold though.
whopperhead 2 years ago
oh cool but iIfish a lot for pike bass waleye, rainbow, salmon and suckers and carp but i dont see how the normal carp like the one u have in ur display pick. are bad.i mean the asian carp u guys might have or i not sure were they are but ..i dont think normal carp are bad if anything they feed off the alligie dead fish anything they can get a hold of thats dead lol. they helpclean the rivers up? Cool video but when u mean rough fish what do u mean i also wondered what is coming out of that vent
king14rk 2 years ago

They destroy our lakes, rivers and streams.
whopperhead 2 years ago
you mean HELP your lakes, rivers, and streams. they clean up the bottoms like dead fish, and animal shit etc., yes they are vile but they do a big part in nature. everything has a purpose.
Jshelley89 2 years ago
They are INVASIVE and eat the plants that Bait fish need to survive, no plants, no bait fish, no game fish. Not to mention they dirty the water.

i suppose your smarter than every ecologist ever to work with the DNR ah? Keep your ignorant comments to yourself man, doubtful anyone cares what your mind concocts to be true.

so many fishes! like fishin in an aquarium lol
itsmerr 3 years ago
Yeah, When the water turns cold (32 degrees F) they congregate in the warm water discharge. It's fun too see them all.
whopperhead 3 years ago
How come you guys don't blast one of those Northern Pikes, that's got to give a good fight. Can you eat it? What do Carp taste like?
alawaiman 3 years ago
It's illegal for us to shoot them. They would put up a good fight- and They're Muskies. I think there were a couple Northern- but most are Muskies. You can eat the Norther- they are good. The Muskies on the other hand- I would not eat- high amounts of Mercury. The Carp taste like mud (to me). Some guys like the taste and they taste ok if you SMOKE them.

I can't believe all those muskies and panfish were all dumbfounded and not afraid of eachother. I would love to swim next to all those nice muskies.
mitch54494 3 years ago
I'm sure the muskie takes a bite or two - but I think there main concern is staying warm- Right infront of that discharge can get up to 54 degrees- go over 15 feet and it drop to about 32. It is really cool. The REALLY Big Muskies can somtimes be territorial and will "bump" you or get about 8" from your face. close enough to make me back away. Every so often we'll even have Stergeon in there- Those are sweet!

NOT SUB ZERO!!! you can see the surface of the water and its not ice
tableandchair12321 3 years ago
the air temp is -10 degrees = hense: Sub Zero.
We walked across the ice to get to the open water.
whopperhead 3 years ago
guess that makes sense
ihuntpork 3 years ago
if its sub zero tempuratures how come it doesnt show him poping out of a whole in the ice
ihuntpork 3 years ago
this spot is right infront of a "warm-Water" discharge from a power plant. right infront of the discharge the water temp can be 54 degrees. Also, it is illegal for us to spearfish through a hole in the ice larger than 12" has to be "open water"
whopperhead 3 years ago
What types of fish can you spearfish for in WI? Do you need any special licenses?
Great video!
kdunaev 3 years ago
In WI you can spear Panfish & Roughfish. In most counties. No special permits or licence just a regular fishing license.
